Chapter 313: The Devil, Vyrazul

While Yoru and Minotaur kept fighting like crazed beasts around the palace, destroying everything around them, I found myself face-to-face with Vyrazul for the first time.

It would have been almost impossible for her not to notice the absolute mess we were causing, but I didn’t feel too nervous about it now that all of the prisoners in the palace were safe.

Vyrazul looked like a beautiful woman who could have easily been a super-model in my past world, but I knew that her powers were meant to shift her appearance to make her look like that.

Her hold of Sinoc’s shoulder made his demonic energy go down in intensity, but her own aura kept increasing in magnitude, giving me goosebumps as I felt a malicious energy enveloping the entirety of the palace’s grounds.

"So, you are Vyrazul..." I muttered, clenching my bo tightly.

"And you must be Ichiro..." she replied.

"Am I famous?" I asked, taking off my mask as it didn’t seem necessary anymore.

I supposed she didn’t like my cheeky question since she answered by shooting three giant shadow waves in the shape of an arch that sliced the ground. However, I was ready for her attacks and managed to avoid them without a problem.

"Oh, you have a short temper, huh?" I commented, releasing a phoenix-fire ball at the location where Vyrazul and Sinoc were standing.

Nonetheless, even though the projectile exploded, the devil and the mage moved away in time before it could hit them.

We were standing on one of the rooftops that hadn’t caught on fire, and Sinoc seemed to be struggling to keep his demonic energy in check as Vyrazul had to keep holding his shoulder.

"Hey devil, what is that guy anyways? What did you do to him that he can now control demonic energy?" I asked, pointing my bo at the devil.

Vyrazul let out a wicked smile that turned her elegant and beautiful face into something out of a horror movie.

"He’s my precious experiment. My one and only superior demonoid..." she said, gazing at Sinoc with her eyes widened.

I didn’t know what a "superior demonoid" was, but I could guess that it was someone who could use both MP and demonic energy.

"I see. Was that something he wanted?" I asked, my tone of voice turning more severe.

"Of course. It was done at his request!" Vyrazul exclaimed.

*sigh* "Then I won’t feel too bad when I end you two..." I muttered, starting to focus my MP for my next attack.

However, my concentration was interrupted when Vyrazul started chuckling while still holding Sinoc’s shoulder.

"It seems you were right, Sinoc. The Bao family has betrayed us..." the devil muttered.

’Huh?’ I thought, pondering how she came to that conclusion.

Noticing that I looked a bit shocked, she chuckled again. "You almost made me believe they were innocent. But, you know? Only Lord Bao knew that Sinoc was at the Yushan mansion..." she explained.

At that moment, I connected the dots and realized she planned this from the beginning.

When Vyrazul ordered the Scarlet Trio and Sinoc to guard the noble families who were in danger of getting targeted by us, she waited for Lord Bao to leave the room, then changed her orders.

Apparently, Sinoc had a hunch that Lord Bao was the mole, and while they had other suspects, we ended up playing into her hands when we targeted the old man Yushan that night.

"Heh, not bad. You are definitely the smartest devil I’ve met. At least among the evil ones..." I said.

I didn’t want to say ALL the devils I’ve met since that would imply that Nessa and Jackson were dumb, and considering they were the only good devils we’ve met, they were the smartest to me.

Without warning, I cast a massive wind current laced with water to make a thick mist at the top of the roof, giving me time to pull out my voice crystal and tell Melina to get everyone out of the Bao’s mansion.

As soon as I sent the message, I saw a hand appear from the mist with nails that looked like shadow claws and struck me in the chest.

Thankfully, I jumped back just in time and only received a few scratches, waving my hand down to dissipate the mist.

Yoru and Minotaur were still fighting hard, and while I wanted Yoru to finish quickly, I knew that it would be difficult since it was one of those nights with no moon, so his powers weren’t at maximum capacity.

We had already completed our mission and even went above and beyond to free everyone in the palace, including Karla, Jackson, Leslie’s mother, the first prince, and the former empress.

Melina had taken the old man Yushan and everyone at the Bao mansion, so there was literally no other reason for us to keep fighting at that moment.

We still needed to fulfill our plan of cornering the nobles into rebelling against their emperor.

’I need to be smart. I can’t let my emotions get the best of me here...’ I thought.

I was still seeing visions of Leslie’s memories and how Sinoc attacked her parents, so my blood was still boiling with anger.

Now that I knew he became whatever he was on purpose, my anger felt even more justified as it wasn’t like he was brainwashed into killing people.

Sage Astra did say that he disappeared, wanting to get more powerful, so I assumed he sought Vyrazul to forge a contract of some sort with her.

[Yoru... we are getting out of here.] I said to my companion telepathically.

[Understood.] he replied instantly, followed by an explosion on another wing of the castle as he rushed to my side on the rooftop.

Minotaur arrived a second later and stood next to Vyrazul and Sinoc, who seemed to still be struggling with his demonic energy.

Yoru and Minotaur looked quite bruised and tired, but they didn’t get their eyes off each other the entire time.

"We are done for the day. Good luck putting this fire out..." I said, using my teleportation spell to get us as far away from there as possible.

Simultaneously, Vyrazul raised her hand and shot one of her nails at me, hitting me in the shoulder right before I teleported out.
