Chapter 312: Melina Vs. Demonoids (Part 2)
As Melina prepared herself with her estoc to face the two demons, they were the first to launch themselves at her.
Their attacks were messy and uncoordinated, which was nothing like she was used to when training with Ichiro and his companions.
Melina could tell that the demonic energy emanating from their bodies was unstable, which made their spells too sloppy to hit her as she dashed around the courtyard using lightning magic.
In the blink of an eye, Melina managed to parry both of their attacks at the same time, casting a wind spell that cut their chests and sent them flying back into a statue.
"So, what are you?" Melina asked as the two demons got up from the ground with blood dripping down their heads.
When they gazed at the princess, the pure MP that enveloped her body had a threatening aura that made them feel like they were about to be executed.
"I’m asking a question here..." Melina continued, noticing the silence of the two.
The male demon scoffed. "Tch, why do you care!?" he shouted, waving his sword upwards to try hitting Melina’s face.
However, his movement halted mid-way as he felt his shoulder getting stiff, only for his entire arm to fall on the ground right beside him.
The male demon had no idea how he had lost his arm, but the female demon kept replaying that brief second in her head.
’We couldn’t even see her moves...’ she thought.
It was clear that they had no chance of defeating Melina, and now that they faced her real power, the two demons hesitated to keep attacking.
"We... we are demonoids..." the female replied.
"What’s that?" Melina asked, her estoc pointed at the woman.
Demonoids were beings who weren’t originally demons, but after infusing demonic energy into them, they could eventually become a full-fledged "superior demonoid."
Being the first time that she had heard that term, Melina asked if they were similar to a greater demon, so the female demonoid elaborated.
The weakest kind of demons were lesser demons, which were beasts with no intelligence other than following orders.
Then came the greater demons, who were on par with a newly born demonoid in terms of power.
Colored demons were next, which was the term they used to talk generally about black, grey, and blue demons, who were stronger than their "greater" counterparts.
A superior demonoid was considered the strongest kind of demon that someone could be, falling right under "named devils," which were creatures like Zagor and Vyrazul.
"I see, so you must be newly born demonoids..." Melina commented.
The male demon was still in pain from losing his arm, but the female nodded hesitantly.
"Now, final question... Did you do this transformation willingly?" Melina asked with a threatening tone.
The two demonoids widened their eyes with shock and fear as different options raced through their minds.
If they told the truth, they could be killed by Vyrazul, but if they lied, they would be killed by Melina.
"T-the temple..." the female demonoid muttered.
"Temple?" Melina pondered aloud.
The demonoids’ energy they borrowed was decreasing, and the man was starting to lose consciousness. Nonetheless, the woman was able to elaborate a bit more.
When Empress Yulian rose to power, Phelena’s temple was closed to the public. However, guards were still taking random citizens inside, but they never got out.
It turned out that Vyrazul had turned Phelena’s temple into her laboratory, where she infused demonic energy on hundreds of people to create her own personal demonoid guards.
Out of the hundreds that went through the painful procedure, only the two of them managed to survive the infusion.
Their names were Igor and Kana—the only survivors of Vyrazul’s experiments.
Hearing the full story, Melina couldn’t help but feel incredibly angry as she almost killed two people who had been a victim of Vyrazul.
She grabbed Igor’s limp arm from the ground and stuck it on his severed shoulder before pouring a healing potion on it, fully healing it to its previous state.
"W-what...?" Igor muttered as he moved his shoulder without feeling any pain.
"You have two options right now. You can either die as a demonoid under Vyrazul’s control or help us and live peacefully as a demonoid later..." Melina said with confidence.
It wasn’t as easy of a choice as it seemed since they were both terrified of Vyrazul, but there was something about Melina’s words and demeanor that made them feel like she truly would become the savior of Guanghua.
Melina sheathed her weapon back on her waist and urged the two demonoids to stand up and go with her, and as the black veins on their faces dissipated, they held Melina’s hand and followed her to the Bao’s mansion.
"Silver lady... W-what’s your name?" Kana asked, still nervous about her presence.
"My name is Melina, but don’t call me that while we are here..."
"Was the man at the castle your subordinate?" Igor asked.
"Huh!? No, no. He is my fiancee..." Melina replied, blushing a little, which was a completely different tone of response than how she had spoken before.
"W-will he not need your help?" Kana asked.
However, before Melina could answer, they felt a terrifying aura coming from the palace, which was quite far from them.
Melina recognized it instantly as a devil’s aura, but she wasn’t expecting it to be palpable so far away from its origin.
Right at that moment, she received a voice message from Ichiro, telling her to get everyone out of the Bao’s mansion as quickly as possible.
To speed up the process, Melina teleported to the mansion and appeared inside the bedroom where Yujun and Leslie were sleeping.
The two kids woke up, not knowing what was happening, but Melina didn’t have time to explain and told them to get into the underground room quickly while she gathered everyone else in the residence.
Using her teleportation magic to quickly appear in every room and take the people to the underground, she managed to gather everyone in two minutes, including Lord and Lady Bao, and used the magic quartz to send them to Yuandu.
