Chapter 311: Melina Vs. Demonoids (Part 1)

After Ichiro split up from Melina to go to the palace and create a diversion, she hovered above the Yushan mansion while invisible, waiting for Ichiro’s signal.

She used that time to use her "search" spell and locate the old man inside the mansion. Nonetheless, she ended up waiting longer than she expected.

’Is Ichi alright?’ she pondered.

Minutes later, she felt a huge torrent of energy coming all the way from the palace, startling her for a moment as she didn’t think that Ichiro would use a magic quartz.

’Did he free the people in the palace’s dungeon? That’s the only explanation why he would use it...’ she thought.

Melina’s train of thought was cut short when she noticed a man quickly leaving the Yushan mansion, covering himself with wind magic and flying at a speed that shocked her.

Without wasting any time, she descended on the mansion’s courtyard and looked for the window that led to the old man’s bedroom.

She needed to hurry, but as she peeked into different rooms, she saw that there were plenty of enslaved villagers working inside.

Some of them were sleeping, but there was still a group that seemed to be working the night shift, and even though these slaves weren’t being mistreated like most in Guanghua, she still couldn’t leave them there.

Noticing that her invisibility was running out of time, she put on her mask and removed the black dye illusion spell from her hair.

She started by knocking out the guards in the courtyard and dragging them to the entrance so that they were all bundled together. Then, she forced the main door open with magic, startling the servants who were awake.

None of the servants tried to fight back due to her fearful entrance, and while Melina brought all of them to the main door beside the unconscious guards, she quickly made her way to the old man’s room.

The old man was awake from the commotion that was taking place inside his home, and when he spotted the masked Melina, he showed a remorseful expression.

"Is it my time now...?" he asked.

Melina tilted her head laterally, a bit confused at Lord Yushan’s statement.

"You are the masked kidnapper, right? I knew I would be next after my son... That is alright, though. If I can meet him again, then I will be a happy old man..." Lord Yushan continued.

Starting to piece together what the old man was saying, Melina removed her mask and revealed her face to him, showing that her expression didn’t have any malicious intent.

"I don’t know what the devil has been telling you, sir, but your son is perfectly safe and healthy..." Melina said.

Lord Yushan was perplexed at Melina’s beauty, wondering if she truly was a "simple kidnapper" like the empress had told him.

"You want to see your son again, right? Then come with me, sir," Melina continued, extending her hand to help the man get up from his bed.

"Y-you are telling me... Li is alive!?" the old man exclaimed.

Melina nodded and gave him a gentle smile, her hand still extended for him to hold onto.

Feeling like he had been visited by an angel, the old man Yushan got a hold of her hand and was guided to the main entrance, where all of his servants and guards were waiting for their fates.

"Your Highness, I’m sorry we couldn’t protect you!" a servant shouted as they saw the old man walking alongside Melina.

Nonetheless, the old man replied with a smile, saying that they had nothing to worry about.

Melina didn’t expect to have to teleport that many people out of the mansion, so she decided to do the same as Ichiro and brought out a magic quartz that was connected straight to the one in Yuandu.

After sending everyone away and stowing away the magic quartz back in her void pocket, she made her way out of the mansion.

However, she was feeling very strong torrents of MP coming from the palace, so she knew that Ichiro must have been fighting the empress’ guards.

’Nnngh, should I go? But Ichiro told me not to since it was only a diversion... But what if he is in actual trouble...!?’ Melina pondered.

She racked her brain for a minute, not knowing what to do. If she went to help Ichiro, but he didn’t need it, she would jeopardize the plan.

Slapping her cheeks gently, she decided to trust Ichiro’s determination and opted not to go to the palace. Nevertheless, as she was making her way out, two demons landed in the courtyard right in front of her.

They were wearing red robes with their hoods down, showcasing their horns, which Melina easily recognized.

However, the rest of their appearance was somewhat off to her.

The greater demons that Melina knew about didn’t have any human features, and she could tell that the demonic energy that they emanated wasn’t "theirs."

’Are they actually demons?’ she pondered.

The black veins that covered their bodies didn’t look natural to Melina either, and as she kept inspecting their bodies, the male demon shot a shadow projectile at her.

However, before it could reach Melina, she used lightning magic to appear beside them, kicking them to the side in a similar manner that Ichiro had done just a few minutes before.

"Another strong one..." said the female demon as she got up from the ground.

The male demon opened his mouth and looked up, using his hand to reach down into his throat and pulling out a small sword from his insides, which made Melina gag a bit.

The female simply showcased her nails as they grew in size and girth, making them look like the claws of a monster.

Not wanting to fight without a weapon, Melina unsheathed her mithril estoc from her waist. Even though she knew that mithril had no effect on demonic energy, all she needed was a weapon to defend herself.

Melina shut her eyes for a moment, increasing the MP output of her body and making the ground around them shake for a brief second, shocking the two demons.

"Let’s begin, then..."
