Chapter 308: The Palace’s Dungeon (Part 2)
Karla kept telling me the events of everything that happened to them, and I was shocked to learn that Leslie’s mother was still alive, thanks to Jackson.
Still, the vow they made only said that she couldn’t kill the woman, so Leslie’s mother was imprisoned further ahead in the dungeon.
Then, she told me about Yujun and how Karla was the one who had to fight the assassins since Jackson couldn’t interfere with Vyrazul’s plans or he would die.
The reason Jackson looked a little beat up in Leslie’s memories after bringing Yujun home was because he couldn’t fight back while the assassins were attacking him.
After saving Yujun, Vyrazul paid a visit to the outskirts again, and Jackson offered another demonic vow.
If Vyrazul allowed the kid to live, then he would let her take Jackson as a prisoner. However, Vyrazul wasn’t that interested in having him chained up, expressing the fact that he couldn’t mess with her plans anyway.
Still, the devil had something she wanted and said that she would let Yujun live if she could take both Jackson and Karla as prisoners.
Jackson tried to oppose her, saying that Karla didn’t have anything to do with them, but Vyrazul was aware that she was the one who stopped the assassins and deemed her dangerous.
’So, when they said their goodbyes to Leslie, they weren’t leaving anywhere. They were just being sent to the dungeon...’ I thought as my rage was building up.
I asked Karla if she was in any condition to walk, and she smiled, saying that she felt quite energetic.
’Well, that’s probably the adrenaline...’ I thought.
As we walked along the rest of the hallway, we reached the cell where Leslie’s mother was being kept, and she looked in even worse condition than Karla.
The woman looked up as she heard our footsteps but couldn’t see us due to the invisibility potion.
She looked exactly like her daughter, with long, blonde tresses and emerald eyes. However, her face of despair only made my blood boil even more.
"Are you Leslie’s mother?" I asked.
"Wh-who’s there!?" she asked, scanning her surroundings with fear.
"You can’t see me right now, but I’m here to take you back to your daughter," I replied, bending the bars of her cell.
The woman’s eyes widened in shock, and after I removed the chains stuck to the wall, I gave her a healing potion and asked her to drink it.
Thankfully, the potions I brought out from my void pocket weren’t invisible, so she hesitantly grabbed the floating vial and slowly drank it.
"Karla, can you free the people in the other hallway? I need them all to be together to get them out of here quickly..." I said.
Karla nodded. "I got it," she replied.
"Yoru, go help her out. Don’t use any magic yet, though..." I commanded my companion, who left my shadow and accompanied the invisible Karla.
I told Leslie’s mother, whose name was Lyara, to wait for a few minutes while we got everyone else, and her shock was still too much to let her speak.
While Karla and Yoru went back to the area with the other prisoners, I kept going straight until I reached the second heavy door.
This time, however, I couldn’t hear any voices on the other side, so I forced it open with a kick and found myself in a much smaller room.
It felt like I had entered an office as there was a desk in the center with some paperwork, two cells on each side of the room, and another strange door at the back.
"Jackson!" I exclaimed as I saw my friend behind one of the cells, with both of his arms nailed to the wall.
Contrary to the others who had their wrists chained, Jackson had two long steel nails on each arm stuck to the wall.
"Ichiro...? Am I hearing things?" he said.
"No, man. I’m here, but I’m invisible right now..." I replied.
"What? Oh..." he continued with low energy as he was clearly exhausted.
In the cell in front of him, a man with dark hair shared Jackson’s fate as his arms were also nailed to the wall in the back, and when I detailed the man’s appearance, I realized he looked very similar to Yujun.
"Are you the first prince, Renjun?" I asked.
"I don’t know who’s there. But yes, that’s me..." he replied.
Renjun looked like an honest guy who would tell the truth even if it meant that it could bring him pain.
I mean, lots of people would have denied being the prince in order to avoid a beating, but this guy was proud of who he was, even in his conditions.
After bending open and releasing the nails from Jackson and the prince, I doused them with a healing potion, and right at that moment, my invisibility started to wear off.
"Heh, you really were invisible..." Jackson commented.
"Why are you laughing in this situation, man?" I asked as I kept treating their wounds with the potion.
"A-are you really getting everyone out of here?" The prince asked, interrupting us.
"That’s right. I just gotta get everyone closer together and-..." I explained, but the prince interjected again.
"Please, if you can, save my mother too..." he said with a somber tone of voice as his eyes gazed at the door in the back of the room.
When I opened the backdoor, it led to a room that resembled a bedroom, although it had no windows, considering we were underground.
Lying on the bed, a woman with long, dark hair was sleeping face up with her arms crossed.
I noticed that there was a chain at the foot of the bed that was ensnared to her ankles, so I removed that first.
When I got closer to the woman, she faintly opened her eyes and tried to say something, but the words couldn’t make it out of her mouth.
The woman was emanating strange energy, which reminded me of the energy that came from the lesser demons that Zagor created with his black pearls.
’So it is a curse...’ I thought as I pulled out a holy panacea from my void pocket.
Obviously, the woman was too weak to do anything, so I gently fed her the potion, pouring it slowly so she wouldn’t choke.
