Chapter 302: Identity Theft

When Melina and I returned to the Bao’s mansion, the lady wondered why we were back so quickly, as she expected us to take a bit longer.

Of course, she couldn’t see that we were holding two invisible people with us, but their potions only had a few minutes left before the effect ran out, so we asked her to come with us.

The Bao’s mansion didn’t have a dungeon since they didn’t think it was necessary, which was nice of them, but having one at that moment would have been quite helpful.

To keep the kidnapped nobles away from the eyes of the servants, we went to our room, where we had the trapdoor to the underground room with the magic quartz, and used earth magic to make it a bit wider.

When we dropped the invisible nobles on the ground, Lady Bao asked what it was, but we just told her to wait a few seconds as the potion’s effect was just about to end.

After the Xuanji couple materialized, all beat up and bloody from the whipping, Lady Bao was shocked and took a step back with caution.

It was a pretty natural response, but when I said that they were the ones tormenting the two kids, she relaxed a bit more.

Melina tied them up and sealed their knots against the wall with her magic so that they wouldn’t walk around, and as we were about to leave the underground room, we heard Leslie and Yujun coming down.

"Big brother and sister are here already!" Leslie exclaimed as she came down.

We tried to hurry up so that they wouldn’t see the two bloody nobles, but we weren’t fast enough, and as the two children jumped down their last step into the underground room, they instantly spotted the Xuanji couple in a corner.

Yujun kept an indifferent expression, but Leslie widened her eyes with a strange mix of emotions.

Honestly, it wasn’t a sight for children to see, but at this point in their lives, they had seen worse.

Melina and I quickly covered the kids’ eyes and went back upstairs, letting Lady Bao close the trap door behind us as we removed our palms from the children’s faces.

Leslie turned around to look at us, and I was expecting her to be somewhat terrified, but her eyes looked curious more than anything.

"Were those the bad guys?" she asked, almost whispering as if it was a secret.

"That’s right. Do not go in there, okay?" Melina replied, gently patting the girl on the head.

We weren’t done for that day, so we told the children to wait for us once again, as we still had things to take care of.

Kidnapping the Xuanji couple wasn’t part of our original plan, but it ended up helping us a lot since we took their identification tablets.

They always used the western city gates to visit the commoners’ area as it was the closest to where Leslie and Yujun used to live. That meant that there were some guards on that side that were familiar with the couple.

So, we decided to take the eastern city gate and use their tablets as our own, making the guards write down on their records that the Xuanji family had gone through the gate.

If we used the fake tablets that we made with fake names, it would be easier for the guards to check the records and look at the names of the people who had come in and out.

However, if they saw that it was the Xuanji who used the gates almost daily, then there wouldn’t be any suspicions.

Using the eastern gate could potentially give them a clue, but in the end, they were just going to look for the real Xuanji couple and not us.

When we passed the gates without trouble, we walked to a point where nobody could see us and split up.

I flew to area number 4, and Melina made her way to the opposite side, to area number 10.

All of these commoners’ zones looked similar, with shacks that seemed like they could be blown away by a strong wind and the people dragging their feet when walking around like zombies.

I noticed a couple of nobles walking around the area, looking at the enslaved villagers with disgust.

One of the men called an enslaved woman to approach him, and when she slowly dragged her feet in front of the man, he complained that she was too slow and raised his hand to hit her.

However, I was fed up with the nobles from this forsaken country and grabbed his arm before he could strike her.

"Eh? What are you doing!? Aarrghhh!" the man shouted in pain as I increased the intensity of my grip, breaking the bone on his forearm.

Luckily for me, there were only two of these noblemen in area 4, so I just knocked them out unconscious before loudly asking everyone to gather around me.

There were way more people than I expected, around 700 of them, but it made sense that these small areas were overpopulated since they all used to live inside the city walls.

Noticing that it would take me a long time to get everyone out of there, I decided to put a magic quartz in the center of the commoners’ area.

With it, I could take big groups of them and send them straight to the underground room in Lady Bao’s mansion, where they would be able to take the other magic quartz to Yuandu.

At Yuandu, they could take another magic quartz and travel to The Sephyr Kingdom, The Droman Empire, Kyotora, or Balinesia. If they wanted, of course.

We were still waiting for the Droman soldiers to put a magic quartz in Kalusia, but we didn’t see any beastkin slaves, so it wasn’t urgent.

Using telepathy, I asked Vespera to stay in the underground room and activate the magic quartz for the people I was sending. After she said she was ready, I began teleporting groups of 100 to Lady Bao’s mansion.

Each teleport generated a torrent of MP that I knew would be too hard to ignore, but I was able to get everyone out of there quickly before any guards or mages could arrive.

Moreover, I was also feeling another magic quartz torrent of energy coming from the opposite side of the city, which was Melina’s doing, so no mages or guards would know what place to check first.
