Chapter 272: Guanghua Infiltration
Chapter 272: Guanghua Infiltration
The following day, after we figured out most of the secrets from the world titan, we made our preparations to go to the Guanghua Kingdom.
We left a magic quartz close to the king’s castle and another one near the world titan, explaining that it was an artifact that would allow us to visit from anywhere in the world.
Of course, we also left a voice crystal in case they needed to ask us for help.
The previous night, we sent a voice message to the Dawn’s Defenders (DD) members who were stationed in Guanghua and told them that we would go there the following morning.
We had left a magic quartz at the settlement called "Yuandu," which was the biggest town for commoners who were hiding from the nobles’ tyranny.
After we said our goodbyes to the dwarves, we used the artifact to teleport us straight to Guanghua.
As soon as we appeared, we were received by Nisa and Tony, who had been taking care of the settlement ever since they arrived.
The first thing we needed to do was lure the devil out of their hiding. Jackson told me that this was the devil that gained control of the country after sleeping with the emperor, so it was safe to say she was in a high position in society.
Even if we went to the capital and managed to hunt her down, the problems in the country wouldn’t just disappear.
She had corrupted the nobles of Guanghua to the point where the commoners had to hide from them, and that wasn’t a behavior that would dissipate along with the devil.
"Alright, here is my plan..." I said to my group as they gathered around me.
Melina and I would go to the city of Xiulan, which was supposedly one of the biggest cities in the nation.
We skipped it the last time we traveled through Guanghua after the DD members said it was risky to pass by since every single commoner who lived there had been enslaved.
Vespera, Carli, Gina, and Nessa would go to another big city called "Yuyan," and Yoru would accompany me in my shadow.
The plan was to free as many commoners as possible and cause a commotion in the cities.
"You are not allowed to kill anyone unless they are extremely dangerous. Understand?" I said to my group.
If I told them they could kill anyone who tried to do the same to them, they would probably end up massacring the guards in the town, and that wasn’t really the outcome we wanted.
I gave the second group a magic quartz that was connected to the one in Yuandu to teleport the commoners and skip the days of traveling along the fields.
"We’ll meet here in three days..." I continued.
"Vesp, can you make us clothes that look like the ones the nobles use here?" I asked my companion.
"Obviously," Vespera replied with a prideful smile.
It took her around twenty minutes to do. For me, she made a robe with wide, long sleeves that looked quite fancy and a nice belt that held the piece together.
Melina and the other girls’ outfits were pretty much the same, although in different colors—a one-piece robe with wide sleeves adorned with embroidery and a headpiece that held her hair in a bun.
Nisa and Tony told us that there were checkpoints before entering these cities, where the guards asked for identification.
Apparently, all of the nobles in Guanghua had received a wooden slab signed by the emperor, which they used to enter different cities without trouble.
"Well, take these..." I said to my group as I pulled out some invisibility potions from my void pocket.
"If you don’t find a way to enter safely, use these to sneak past the entrance..." I explained.
Once we were all set, our group split up, and we flew in different directions toward our destinations.
It was going to be one of those times where we had to play as the villains if we wanted to do the right thing.
’Well, we are the villains of the villains...’ I pondered, my thoughts drifting away as we kept mindlessly flying.
When the city of Xiulan became visible in the distance, we descended to the ground and noticed that there was a small line of carriages that were entering the city.
Most of them had shields or insignias that portrayed their noble status, but there was one that was larger than the others and looked like an ordinary merchant’s cart.
"We are obviously going to stand out when they see us coming without a carriage..." I said to Melina.
We were standing last in line, and we were the only ones who were walking, so it was pretty evident that we were not nobles from here.
There were two noble carriages in front of us, followed by the merchant cart, and then three more nobles.
"Welp... Looks like we are starting earlier than expected..." I muttered to Melina.
We were using our "search" spell and felt the presence of a dozen people inside the ordinary carriage, so we could tell that they weren’t bringing in material goods to the city but slaves.
"How do you wanna do this?" Melina asked.
"I got a pretty funny idea..."
We both drank an invisibility potion and walked ahead of the line, passing by the nobles’ carriages until we reached the big cart that was covered by a long piece of fabric to hide the slaves.
When we quickly got inside the carriage, one of the enslaved villagers wondered if the wind had moved the fabric.
None of them could see us standing right in front of them, but I could still see Melina, which was a side-effect of the potion I didn’t know about.
I had always taken it when I was alone, so I didn’t know that drinking it would also allow you to see other invisible people.
Without showing ourselves, we made contact with the villagers and teleported them to Yuandu, where Nisa and Tony were receiving them with tools to break their chains.
It took us three quick teleports to bring them all to safety, and while they didn’t know what the hell was happening and how they suddenly appeared somewhere else, they seemed quite grateful as their chains were broken.
