Chapter 252: Nessa’s Determination

Drakzen and I exchanged blows against each other. Imbuing my bo with fire and lightning magic to attack him, he kept using his forearm to block my offensive.

I did notice that Drakzen had some sort of metal plating protecting his arms, which I thought was an armor he was wearing underneath the robe. However, the more I fought him, the more I realized that it was his actual skin.

At one point, he used demonic energy to push me back and started sprinting away from me. Of course, I didn’t let him do as he pleased and followed him closely using lightning magic.

Not realizing where he was taking me, a fiery explosion suddenly appeared in front of me, making me react quickly and cover myself with a water barrier. Still, it burned my arm a little.

"Ichiro!" Vespera exclaimed.

Drakzen ran all the way to the location where my team was fighting Salamandra and almost caught me with a surprise attack.

Standing beside my group, facing Salamandra and Drakzen, I noticed something very important.

’Where the hell is Melina?’ I pondered.

I couldn’t sense her anywhere nearby, so I didn’t know if she was hiding or if she just left the area.

"Heh, so you completely turned on us, Nexa. Or, is it ’Nessa’ now?" Drakzen said out loud with a sarcastic tone.

Nessa was visibly shaken simply by Drakzen’s presence and took a cautious step back without saying a word.

"I don’t get it. You and Jaterno are both such disappointments..." Drakzen continued.

"His name is Jackson..." I interjected, uttering the words while I clenched my teeth.

"Ha! Right, right. I suppose you knew about his identity. How about this? You don’t mess with us, and we don’t mess with you." Drakzen continued, his tone carefree.

"Didn’t you mess with us first? Are you really trying to bargain right now?" I said.

"Ah, that was a thing of the past. Let bygones be bygones, am I right?"

For some reason, his words made me chuckle a little, but not because I thought he was funny.

"Heh, oh man. I really hate you. Sure, I’ll let bygones be bygones..." I said, pausing for a moment as I raised my MP in a threatening manner.

"Once I erase you from existence." I finished my sentence, instantly appearing right in front of Drakzen with my bo raised.

"What a shame..." he replied as he blocked my attack, creating a shockwave that pushed Salamandra away from us.

My companions followed up and attacked the Accursed Beast, except for Nessa, who stayed in the back, frozen in fear.

"NESSA!" I shouted from the very bottom of my heart, my voice echoing loudly throughout the forest.

"You don’t owe these devils anything! You are strong enough to take care of yourself! WAKE UP!" I shouted before launching myself at Drakzen again.

The devil was strong and fast. No matter how quick I thought I was, his hardened forearms always blocked my attacks.

Suddenly, in the middle of my barrage, he used both arms to block, leaving an opening for an attack that I couldn’t take. However, someone else did.

In the blink of an eye, Nessa had appeared right next to us, her fist charged to the maximum with demonic energy.

She was clenching her teeth as tears of anger flowed out of her eyelids. An indomitable rage completely overtook her body.

Then, she punched Drakzen in the ribs with a force that sent him flying at high speeds, knocking down a couple of giant pines in his wake.

"What the hell are you doing?" muttered Drakzen as he rose from the ground, holding the side of his torso. His voice wasn’t sarcastic as usual but severe and threatening.

Nessa didn’t reply, and while she still looked nervous, she stood her ground and kept her fists on guard.

"You actually dared to attack me... Nexa!" Drakzen shouted as his demonic energy rose, generating a black and red aura that emanated with pure evil intent.

*shnk!* The sound of a blade was heard.

"Huh?" Drakzen pondered aloud and looked down, noticing the mithril estoc that went from his back out his chest.

"Nessa can do what she wants, asshole!" Melina shouted from behind Drakzen, gripping her estoc firmly and slashing to the side, opening a massive wound on the devil’s chest.

Just as I thought, Melina had been hiding by using the same method that Nessa used to hide her demonic energy.

By suppressing her MP, she was pretty much undetectable, allowing her to pop out with a surprise attack like that one.

My two companions and the two maids had taken their fight with Salamandra away from us, leaving Nessa, Melina, and I to fend off the devil.

Drakzen was done with his playful act and was visibly annoyed as his demonic aura kept increasing. Nonetheless, we didn’t falter and launched ourselves at him simultaneously.

Raising three obsidian pillars from the ground, he blocked our first attack and moved out of our range in the blink of an eye.

’Earth magic...? No, this is different.’ I pondered while quickly inspecting the black walls extruding from the ground.

"He has a copy of the four elements, careful!" Nessa shouted.

I didn’t fully understand what she meant by "copy," but I could at least tell that Drakzen could use magic that resembled the one we used, except using demonic energy.

Waving his arm to the side, the blood that came out from the wound on his chest scattered in the shape of an arc and severed the trees around him, making us jump to avoid getting sliced.

Suddenly, he appeared next to Nessa and kicked her in the face, sending her a few meters back and crashing her back against a large rock.

In response, I used my bo and aimed for his head, making him use his forearm to protect himself.

Nonetheless, I expected that reaction from him and laced my bo with gravity magic, making it a thousand times heavier.

As my weapon made contact with his hardened skin, he instantly noticed the change in weight and tried to stand his ground.

Still, it was to no avail, and as his skin began to crack, he released a torrent of energy and pushed me back.

Melina helped Nessa get up from the rubbles, and as the pink-haired devil wiped the blood from her mouth with the back of her hand, her raging eyes were set on Drakzen.
