Chapter 250: Glasses for Elves

Chapter 250: Glasses for Elves

When talking with the chief of the elves and his daughter, Eve, I explained that we weren’t planning on stopping by their country at first.

Our plan was to explore the Lunar Forest for a few days and make our way to Balinesia to wait for the assembly.

However, we changed our minds after finding out about Salamandra and the devil’s presence nearby.

Aiwin wasn’t aware that a devil was controlling the Accursed Beast, which was why he felt somewhat indifferent about Salamandra.

The chief had lived for hundreds of years, and no monster had ever been able to cross the veil, so he was pretty confident about his country’s defense.

Still, I couldn’t understand why a devil would order the beast to attack Eldariel when they knew full well they wouldn’t be able to get near them.

In the end, it was the outskirts of their nation that was being razed by Salamandra, which reduced the amount of food and resources that the elves could gather, but it still wasn’t enough to actually damage their people.

Plenty of the elves’ settlements in Eldariel focused on farming crops, so even if they couldn’t go out hunting, they still had a steady supply of food.

After the meeting, the chief asked us to stay at their castle for one night, and we agreed since I had one thing I wanted to do.

At night, I met Aimar, the butler wearing a monocle who greeted us when we first arrived at the castle.

As we sat in the living room, I pulled out of my void pocket a few pieces of papyrus with symbols and letters in different sizes and made them float with gravity magic on one side of the room.

Then, I asked Aimar for his monocle to inspect it.

I wasn’t an ophthalmologist or anything close to it, but I vaguely remembered how vision tests were made back in my old world.

If I could adjust the lens with magic, I could potentially make glasses for more elves with bad eyesight.

First, I needed to find out what was wrong with Aimar’s vision. Some people had trouble seeing things too far, while others couldn’t read something that was right up on their faces.

After Aimar took off his monocle, I asked him to read the letters and symbols in the papyrus on the side of the room.

Surprisingly, he had most of the answers correct, although he couldn’t read any of the smaller figures, saying that they looked like a blur.

’Hmm, so his problem is with seeing things that are far...’ I thought.

Again, I wasn’t an eye doctor, so I decided to make different lenses and have him try them on.

Using earth and fire magic to make glass was actually pretty simple. I didn’t do it that much since I mostly used it whenever we were constructing buildings, but I could see how it could be more helpful.

The first lens I made was a concave lens, which was thinner in the center. The second one was a convex lens, which was thicker, like a magnifying glass.

When Aimar tried both on, he said he saw worse with the convex lens. However, when he put on the concave, his eyes widened as he read all the symbols he had previously missed.

’Alright, note to myself: A concave lens is good if they can’t see far, and a convex lens is good if they can’t see stuff near them...’

Now that I knew which lens worked for him, I kept adjusting its width until Aimar could confirm that it was the best it could possibly be.

’How should I make the frames for the glasses...?’ I pondered.

Most glass frames were made of plastic, but plastic magic didn’t exist, and if it did, it hadn’t been invented yet.

In the end, I used earth magic to make the thin glass frames with iron and adjusted them a little bit so that they wouldn’t hurt the elves’ ears.

Aimar looked so excited with his glasses on that he quickly thanked me and left the living room to show the others.

As I left to make my way to my room, I spotted Melina and Nessa walking towards me in the hallway and called me into the room again to speak.

"What’s wrong?" I asked the pair.

"Nessa needs to tell you something..." Melina replied.

The pink-haired girl looked nervous, more than usual, which made me a little worried.

"It’s Drakzen... He has been calling me..." Nessa muttered.

"What do you mean?"

Nessa explained that after we crossed the veil, she felt as if her demonic energy was trying to burst out.

Here is the thing. After Nessa started hanging out with us, we told her that she didn’t need to hide her demonic energy all the time as it was extremely exhausting for her.

Of course, she still needed to hide it whenever we weren’t alone, so she had been keeping it together ever since arriving at Eldariel.

In the beginning, the reason her demonic energy would burst out of her body was because she held it back for way too long, eventually making it overflow.

Now that she was able to release it periodically, those bursts had stopped happening.

That’s why when she said that her demonic energy was trying to burst out again, I got a bit worried since it had only been one day of her holding it back.

Nessa believed that Drakzen was influencing her powers, as it was one of his abilities. He had done the same during the tournament when he almost caused her demonic energy to burst in the arena.

However, now he was trying to do the same while we were in the elves’ nation.

"This guy is so annoying..." I muttered.

I truly hated Drakzen with all my heart, primarily because of how annoying he was and the fact that he wouldn’t stay still and go around the world causing trouble.

"Nessa, try holding it as much as possible... Tomorrow, we’ll hunt the bastard." I said.

The pink-haired devil wasn’t sure she could do it, but honestly, she was underestimating herself.

I had felt Nessa’s demonic energy before, and it was much stronger than Armaros’s, so it’s not like she was a weakling who couldn’t protect herself. She just had her confidence crushed by the other devils.
