My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 249: Chief Aiwin Eldari

Chapter 249: Chief Aiwin Eldari

When we got to talk to Princess Eve at the elven castle, we told her that we were traveling to Balinesia for the assembly but stopped at the Lunar Forest.

Eve knew that the outskirts of the veil were being ravaged by Salamandra, but they couldn’t do much about it as they didn’t want to sacrifice their people in pointless fights.

"Lost of monsters have tried attacking Eldariel in the past, and our best options during those times were to wait for them to give up..." Eve elaborated.

Her explanation made sense. No one had ever been able to cross the veil using strength or magic, so if their enemies were outside the veil, there was no point in fighting.

Eve was against sending hunters to fight Salamandra from the very beginning, but a group of them said they were confident they could take down the beast.

"Now, we ended up losing ten of our hunters to the monster. I’m sure if they had just waited, it would have gone away..." Eve continued.

The problem was that the elves weren’t aware that Salamandra was being controlled by a devil, which I suspected was Drakzen, so the chances of it simply going away were lower than usual.

Still, Eve was confident, saying that they had old journals that talked about past devils who tried breaking into Eldariel and how they were all unsuccessful.

’Okay, at this point, we are just going to jinx it...’ I thought.

We understood why she didn’t want to do anything about the monster, but we couldn’t just ignore the devil going around controlling these powerful beasts.

As we continued discussing Salamandra’s matter, we were interrupted by a man entering the room.

A tall elf with peach-colored hair like Eve, wearing regal white robes with golden linings, entered the room with poise and confidence.

"I see we are discussing serious matters here!" he exclaimed right after banging the doors open.

"Dad, at least knock!" Eve exclaimed.

The elf that interrupted us was none other than the Chief of Eldariel, Aiwin Eldari, and the father of Eve.

"Let’s skip the introductions and get to the point. You, the man with brown hair and curious eyes, tell me what brought you here..." he said, looking at me.

I replied by telling the same story we told Eve about how we were traveling to Balinesia but stopped at Lunar Forest when we got caught up with Salamandra.

"Wait, you are Ichiro!" the chief said, almost as if he wasn’t paying attention to what I said and saying something completely different.

"Uhh, right, that’s me..."

"Ahaha! I almost didn’t recognize you without the referee’s uniform!" Aiwin said with a smile.

The chief knew who I was because it was thanks to me that Eve managed to get so far in the world tournament. However, he had only seen me in the transmissions that Sage Lang sent to all the different nations.

During the world tournament, I had to wear a "hakama," which was a style of traditional clothing for Kyotora. Obviously, it was influenced by Japanese culture, with Kyoko being the founder of that nation and all.

So, when the chief said he didn’t recognize me without my "referee uniform," he actually meant the hakama I was given.

The chief thanked me for the tutoring I gave her daughter, saying that even the level of magic for other elves had been improving after Eve started passing down my teachings to them.

"No worries, I was just doing my job..." I said.

Aiwin let out a laugh. "I like you, Ichiro!" he exclaimed, giving me pats on the back.

"But tell me something. Where did you get the password for the veil?" he asked, his tone of voice suddenly turning quite severe.

"Ummm, I’m still deciding on whether I should tell you or not. It’s not that I don’t trust you, but it is supposed to be a secret, you know?" I replied.

My group seemed reserved about my answer, as I was basically denying the chief of the elves the information he wanted to know. However, the tension was released when Aiwin laughed out loud.

"That’s a great answer!" he exclaimed.

The chief told us that he already knew the password, as it had to be passed down his lineage. Still, he was literally the only elf who knew it, as not even Eve was aware of it.

Wanting to confirm that he indeed knew the password and wasn’t bluffing, I asked him to whisper it to me, and the elf had it right.

"Quendalas, Edraith..." he said.

"Mhmm, well, if you know it, then I suppose it’s okay to tell you where we found it..."

When I explained to the chief that the password was written in another language inside an ancient journal from Kyoko, he stood still with his eyes widened.

I didn’t mention anything about her being a reincarnator, so I referred to her as an ancient sage who founded Kyotora.

What I didn’t know was that the chief actually met Kyoko once when he was a child.

Elves could live up to hundreds of years, so it wasn’t far-fetched to think that some were around during Kyoko’s lifetime.

"Ichiro, does that mean you are also from-" the chief spoke up, but I quickly covered his mouth with my hands.

Honestly, it was extremely disrespectful of me to do that, but I couldn’t just have him reveal my biggest secret to Melina. That was something that I had to do myself.

Aiwin probably came to the conclusion I was a reincanator since I was able to read the supposed "scriptures" that nobody in the world understood, which ended up being English.

The chief, seemingly understanding my position and the fact that I was keeping it a secret, quickly spoke up again.

*ahem* "I was going to ask if you were also from the Sephyr Kingdom..." he said, diverting the conversation.

"Yep. I was, uhh, born there..." I replied, somewhat nervous.

My two companions were looking at me with disappointed looks on their faces, while the rest just raised one of their eyebrows with confusion.

*sigh*
