After leaving Kawabe, our group kept flying south for an entire day, passing a few more towns during our travels.

We thought about stopping, but we didn’t want to lose the pace we had and just kept pushing until sunset.

At that time, we arrived at the city that bordered the Guanghua Kingdom, called "Nagare Town."

There were supposed to be three Kyotora towns that bordered Guanghua, and Nagare was one of them.

When the Guanghua Kingdom fell to tyranny, the citizens who managed to escape before the emperor closed the borders migrated to Nagare Town.

However, it was now occupied by guards from both sides—the Guanghua guards who didn’t let anyone through and the Kyotora guards who had to witness their cruelty.

After I thanked the man for his information, I went to the inn and told the group about it.

Our plan was to go straight south without deviations until reaching the Lunar Forest, but if any big city or landmark were in the way, then a small turn wouldn’t hurt us.

Luckily for us, the members of DD were experts in their field and had mapped out most of the settlements where commoners resided away from the big cities and the threat of being enslaved by nobles.

From what they told us, there was one big city in our trajectory called "Xiulan," so we marked it down in order to avoid it when we got close to it.

Apart from that, everything else in our way was settlements or uninhabited fields.

The DD members said they would meet us at a small town called "Yuandu," which was considered one of the biggest settlements for commoners and was located in a very remote area away from big cities.

The following morning, we flew high up in the air and crossed the border walls without any of the guards noticing us. Then, our high-speed flight south began.

It took us over four hours of flying across vast fields until we spotted a small settlement behind a hill with, at most, fifteen residents.

I was a bit hesitant to stop there at first since we had a big group that could potentially scare the villagers. Nonetheless, Melina decided to go down first and speak with the people.

A few minutes later, she looked up and waved at us, signaling us to come down and join them.

Melina told the villagers that we were a group of "magic merchants" and that we would give their settlement food and resources in exchange for letting us stay one night.

Here is the thing. We didn’t need lodging since we could simply make our own hut with earth magic. However, telling them that was the best way she could think of for them to accept our help.

The settlement had five families, all of which were originally from the city of Xiulan.

Four years ago, when the nobles started enslaving and treating commoners like insects, these five families got together and traveled to this remote area.

We asked them if they knew how long it would take us to get to Yuandu, but only one of the villagers knew, saying that it was at least three days on foot.

Guanghua was a large nation with an expansive territory. However, most of its terrain was vast, open fields, which made travel somewhat easier.

Since carriages didn’t have to go through dangerous forests, narrow mountainous paths, deserts, or jungles, the journey from cities felt much shorter.

We spent that night in the small settlement with no name after giving the villagers a few gifts.

First, we reinforced their houses with protection enchantments and added the temperature spell to keep the insides always cozy.

Then, we gave them a nice supply of food and some of the magic refrigerators I had made to keep it from spoiling.

It was a small gesture from us, but the villagers were extremely grateful for it.

The following morning, we kept making our way to the settlement called Yuandu while flying at high speeds.

At one point, we saw a large convoy of what looked like soldiers moving carriages along the field, going in the opposite direction of us.

We thought about ignoring them at first, but Vespera sent me a telepathic message saying that the carriages seemed to be filled with people.

"Yoru, can you check those carriages and tell me who is inside?" I asked my companion.

Our entire group was suspended high in the air, looking at the convoy slowly moving away.

The people inside the carriages were either criminals or enslaved commoners. Depending on the answer, our next action would determine whether we interrupted them or let them go.
