My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 234: Dhormec’s Rings
Chapter 234: Dhormec’s Rings
A few days after the graduation ceremony, we were in the capital, hanging out with the noble group of students who still hadn’t returned home.
Most of them were staying for Melina’s ball, which would take place in a few weeks, so they used that time to tour around Sephyr.
At one point, I sneaked out from the group and teleported to the city of Glorya, where the dwarf Dhormec had his jewelry shop.
Dhormec was the dwarf who sold me the gems that I used to create the voice crystals, and as soon as he saw me entering, he stopped what he was doing and raised his arms in a welcoming manner.
"Hey, the sage boy, Ichiro!" he exclaimed.
"How’s it going, Dhormec? Business doing well?" I asked, closing the main door behind me.
"As usual, nothing too crazy. Now that you are here, though, I’m not sure about that!" he said, letting out a laugh and slamming his desk.
I didn’t know what it was about Dhormec, but I found the guy to be pretty funny and enjoyable to hang out with. In a strange way, it reminded me of a very loud but kindhearted friend.
"So, what brings you here today? Another sage experiment?" the dwarf asked.
"Something like that. I was looking for a pair of engagement rings..." I said, making the dwarf widen his eyes and chuckle a little.
"Finally!" Dhormec exclaimed. "Alright then, what did you have in mind?"
My plan was to make a pair of rings that could easily hold a few enchantments without breaking down, so I believed that adamantite would be a good material for the base.
However, the problem with that metal was that it had a dark-greenish color to it, which wasn’t the most attractive when talking about jewelry.
"Well, I could always coat the adamantite with a thin layer of gold..." said Dhormec.
Adamantite was good to enhance the enchantments that I would place on it, but I still thought I would need more catalysts.
Dhormec said that he could add some tiny gems to it, which would hold the spells and get enhanced by the adamantite.
After we came up with an idea, the dwarf asked me to return in three days to check the results, so I teleported back to the capital.
Thankfully, everyone was so busy having fun around the city that they didn’t inquire where I had been the past few minutes.
When the three days passed, I returned to Dhormec’s shop, and he showed me what he had been working on all that time.
The rings looked like they were made out of gold, but that wasn’t the case. In fact, each ring felt a bit heavy since he said he compacted a large chunk of adamantite into a small piece.
Basically, with the amount of adamantite that Dhormec used on one ring, he could have made a dagger. However, he compacted it tightly into a small ring that gave it its weight as a result.
When I say heavy, I mean it relative to a ring. It wasn’t something like 100kg per ring, but more like 5kg, which was still very heavy for a single piece of jewelry.
Nevertheless, the fact that it had so much adamantite compacted in it would make its "magic enhancing" effect more potent.
The dwarf had also encrusted tiny gemstones at the top of the ring, expressing how those were the smallest and strongest he could find, believing that they could hold whatever enchant I was planning on adding to them.
He called the gems "yellow diamonds" and said that they could only be found in Durinhold, the dwarven country. However, he obviously had his connections as he was a dwarf himself.
Realizing that he used super rare materials, I thanked Dhormec wholeheartedly and gave him 100 gold coins for the work. He said it was too much, but I could tell that this craftsmanship was unmatched by anyone else, so it was worth the money.
’Besides, I got a lot of gold and not much to do with it...’ I thought.
The dwarf was curious as to what type of magic I was going to add to the rings, saying that he wanted to witness it in case any of the gems shattered.
The ring had three diamonds set in it, so I thought that I could add three enchantments without stressing their magic capacity too much.
The first one was a teleport enchantment that would teleport the wearer to the location of the other ring. In other words, we could teleport to each other’s location in an instant.
Even if Melina were somewhere I had never visited before, the ring would take me to her.
The second enchantment was the same one I used on the voice crystals, making it so that we could communicate using our rings without having to use the large gems.
Last but not least, I added a new enchantment that I called "alert."
Basically, it kept track of the wearer’s health condition, and if the person received any type of damage, it would alert the other ring.
Apart from those three enchantments, the ring also boosted our spells since it was made with compact adamantite. Still, I thought that the weight could be a problem.
Noticing that the gems were holding the previous enchantments with ease, I added a fourth gravity spell to them, removing the extra weight from the ring and making its new weight virtually nothing.
Once the process was done, Dhormec laughed, saying he expected no less from the "sage boy."
Before leaving the store with the rings, I asked the dwarf if he knew anything about the supposed ancient weapon that was hidden in his country.
However, Dhormec raised an eyebrow and said that every dwarf knew about it since it wasn’t really a secret.
"It’s not? Then why do people treat it as some sort of ancient secret?" I asked.
"Well, the way it works is a secret that not even we dwarves know about. But the existence of the weapon would be quite hard to ignore..." Dhormec said.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, it’s massive! You can see the weapon standing between two mountains, so of course, everyone knows about it!" he continued.
When Dhormec elaborated, he explained that most people couldn’t enter the dwarves’ nation, so the existence of said ancient weapon was unknown to them.
Dwarves didn’t share their secrets or techniques with people they didn’t trust, and they didn’t trust 99% of them, so it was safe to say that I was in the 1%.
"Here, if you are planning on going to Durinhold, show this at the gate..." the dwarf said, handing me a coin that looked different from the ones we used as payment.
"It’s a dwarven coin. Show that at the gate, and they’ll let you in..."
After thanking Dhormec for all his help, I left the store and returned to the capital before people wondered where I was.
’The ancient weapon is big enough that it stands between two mountains... What the hell could it even be?’ I pondered.
