Chapter 235: Debutante Ball

Winter had arrived in the Sephyr Kingdom along with Melina’s debutante ball.

Queen Diana gifted me a pretty nice suit to wear during the event, which was somewhat of a creation between the two of us.

See, for the past weeks, I had been meeting with the queen so that she could tell me everything I should and shouldn’t do during the ball.

When the tailors were taking my measurements, they showed me a few different suits and asked what type of clothing I liked the most so that they could make something similar. However, I found them all to be somewhat flashy and weird.

Most of the suits that nobles wore in the Sephyr Kingdom had rich fabric adorned with embroidery and a tail that swept the ground behind them, pretty similar to how people from the Victorian-era would dress.

To them, that was good. To me, it was quite ugly and uncomfortable.

It’s not like I was a fashion designer, but even that was too much for me, so I tried giving my input in the design.

The suit I was given as a professor wasn’t as flashy as it wasn’t meant to be used on formal occasions, but I still believed it looked much better since it resembled a normal suit from my past world the most.

In the end, my attire looked like a traditional suit: dark blue trousers and flux, a white button-down shirt, and a cravat. The queen even praised my sense of fashion, though I did technically copy someone else’s design.

When the day of the ceremony arrived, I was getting ready in my room with my companions, who were also invited to the ceremony.

It was the first time I saw Vespera wearing a formal dress since she always wore the same type of sundress or skirt. However, I did notice that the design she went for was relatively "modern."

The fabric was tightened to her body, with the bottom part having a slit on the side that showcased her long leg. The embroidery covered the top of her chest all the way to her neck, and she had a large ruby necklace that matched her red eyes.

"Vesp, where did you get that dress from?" I asked.

"I made it, of course," she replied.

"Well, yeah. I know that. I’m talking about the design..." I continued.

Her dress didn’t look like anything people wore in this world. In fact, it looked like the type of dress that women would wear when going out to a party or something.

"I saw it in your memories, and I liked it. So, I recreated it!" Vespera said proudly.

In the same way that Vespera learned martial arts, thanks to her familiar contract with me, she was also occasionally able to see some of my past memories.

I wondered if the dress might be "too sexy" for these people, but I still believed that it wouldn’t be a problem.

’The worst that could happen is Vespera getting a lot of attention from men, and she likes that anyways...’

After I put on my suit, the queen came to my room to give me a blue sapphire brooch to hang on my collar, saying it matched Melina’s eyes.

She looked a bit shocked when she spotted Vespera in her dress, but after inspecting her for a few seconds, the queen showed her admiration for it and praised my companion, making her even prouder than she already was.

The queen told me to wait until a servant picked me up from my room, as I would be entering the party hall with Melina once all the invitees had arrived.

I thought it would be a few minutes, but I ended up waiting for an hour until a servant knocked on my door.

Usually, it would have been Carli or Gina. However, they were also invited to the party as guests, so they weren’t working as our maids that day.

As she guided me through the hallway, I reached a massive door that would make way for us to the party hall.

A few seconds later, another servant appeared, escorting Melina to the spot, and I stood frozen in awe at her beauty.

Seeing how every other noble dressed in flamboyant dresses with lots of frills and pompous designs, I was surprised to see Melina wearing something that looked more modern.

Her dress was dark blue like my suit, with lighter-toned highlights and silver embroidery that elegantly adorned the fabric.

Her back and shoulder were uncovered, but not in a distasteful way, as it only accentuated her beauty.

"D-do I look okay?" Melina asked me in the middle of my trance, slightly blushing.

"W-what... I mean...!" I stuttered, feeling my ears getting hot and my cheeks turning red.

*ahem* I scoffed and slapped my face gently to bring me back to reality.

I held Melina’s hand and raised it a little, giving her a kiss on the back of her palm and locking my eyes with hers.

"You look beautiful as always, Mel," I said, making her a little embarrassed and turning her gaze to the side.

"Shall we?" I continued, pointing at the massive double doors that would lead to the main hall where all the guests were waiting.

With confidence, Melina nodded, and we both prepared for our entrance.

"Dear guests, please give a warm welcome to the lady of tonight’s ball and her partner: Princess Melina Sephyr and Sage Ichiro!" someone exclaimed from the other side of the door, which was our cue to enter.

As the double doors opened, we took a few steps and found ourselves a few levels above the rest of the party, allowing everyone to see us coming in.

The hall was completely filled with people, all wearing formal attire from different parts of the world, depending on where they were from.

While we slowly walked down the stairs holding hands, I used sound magic to listen to the people around us.

To my surprise, not a single person at the party had something bad to say about Melina, as everyone praised her looks and confidence.

Even I was getting a few praises here and there, which I wasn’t really expecting. Still, it felt nice that people weren’t trying to undermine my relationship with the princess.
