My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 233: Graduation
Chapter 233: Graduation
The academy year was slowly coming to an end as winter approached the continent.
My 18th birthday happened during that time, and I spent it with Melina at the Droman Empire, where we went for one day to eat and relax.
The students were going through their final tests and preparing for the graduation ceremony, which somehow reduced the amount of work I had to do. Still, my time as a professor was ending, as my deal with Devon was for one year.
A few weeks before the ceremony, I was sleeping soundly in my room when I felt a bit cold. As I opened my eyes, I noticed a ghostly owl entering my room through the window, phasing through it like it wasn’t even there.
"What the-!?" I exclaimed, startled.
The owl gently posed himself on top of a table and dropped a ghostly letter that turned real as soon as it touched the wooden surface.
’What kind of magic is that...?’ I wondered.
Seeing that the owl managed to phase through a window with a letter and then turned it into a physical object was quite impressive.
As the ghostly owl left the room, I opened the letter and saw that it came from the Mage’s Tower.
Sage Devon had convoked a Sage’s Assembly after we arrived from Kyotora, and it took them a pretty long time to take action.
Still, the letter said that the assembly would take place in the middle of spring, giving time for all sages to make their way to Balinesia.
Right after I finished reading, I received a message from Melina on my voice crystal where she said that she had received the same letter.
The following day, Sage Devon called us both into his office to discuss the event and asked us how we were planning on going.
The assembly was still months away, so I hadn’t considered our method of transportation. However, thanks to the magic quartz I enchanted, we could instantly travel to the eastern continent.
Balinesia was the furthest country from the Sephyr Kingdom, so traveling by ship would take around two weeks.
The other problem was that the magic quartz would take us to Kyotora, the northernmost country on the eastern continent, while Balinesia was on the southern tip, so flying there would take us around the same time.
Not only that, but we would have to travel across the Guanghua Kingdom and the Lunar Forest, so there was no way to tell if it would take longer than simply taking the ship.
Devon said he was going to take the boat since it had to make a stop at Vista before reaching Balinesia, saying that he was going to meet up with another sage there.
Melina and I were still undecided on how we would go, so we told Devon that we would let him know as soon as we came up with a plan.
A few weeks later, graduation time fell upon us, and the massive ceremony took place in the courtyard of the academy.
There were thousands of people among the attendees from different parts of the world. Luckily, I didn’t have to do much during the ceremony apart from just standing there and shaking the hands of the students.
I noticed that Yuki’s mother and step-brothers were present, which made me pretty happy since I was worried the king of Kyotora wouldn’t let them leave the palace.
Most of the nobles that were present were staying for a few more weeks to attend Melina’s ball, meaning they wouldn’t return to their countries until winter or early spring.
After the ceremony, the academy held a small festival for the attendees to relax and socialize.
However, I didn’t relax at all since I had a bunch of parents talking to me and wanting to shake my hand for teaching their kids.
It all happened after the World Tournament when the people from all the academies revised the fights.
Noticing the difference in spell casting between my students and the others, they concluded that the level of magic at Sephyr’s academy was much higher than the others.
Apparently, one of the topics we were going to discuss at the Sage’s Assembly had to do with that, as they couldn’t have one academy being better than the other two.
If one academy were considerably better than the others, then parents wouldn’t want to send their kids to the other two.
I was leaving the Sephyr Academy this year, but my teachings would stay the same since Topen, my assistant, had memorized all of my lessons and would return to his teaching position.
Devon told me that the mages at the tower would try their best to get my teachings out of me, but I had no problem simply showing it to them as they weren’t some sort of secret technique.
Days after the festival, I had stowed away all of the things in my room at the professor’s tower and teleported to End Town with Melina to check up on Rika and Nessa.
Rika had been diligently working in my house, sending and receiving items using my delivery tablets.
From what she told me, we had been getting more business partners than usual, but I attributed it to Rika being good at her job.
Then, we went to the tree house and saw that Nessa wasn’t there, so Reinar and Jen explained that she was completing a request from the guild.
Not only that, but they expressed how happy they were to have the pink-haired girl around, who seemingly never rested and just kept hunting and looking for alchemy materials.
’Mhmm, I’m glad.’ I thought.
I wasn’t sure if Nessa would manage to fit in with the guys at End Forest, but I was worrying for nothing.
The alchemists at the tree house were pretty much addicts to research, so having someone who was simply determined to help them out was enough for them to trust them wholeheartedly.
That night, we spent it at End Town since we had been away for quite a while. Still, I couldn’t just fall asleep when I had something in my mind bothering me.
’What would be a good gift for Melina...?’ I pondered.
