My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 227: Kyoko’s Legacy
Chapter 227: Kyoko’s Legacy
Melina and I kept reading Kyoko’s travel journal, and after finishing the Eldariel Chapter, she went on to talk about the Northern Empire.
Kyoko referred to it as a frozen hell, stating that she hated cold climates all her life, so she wasn’t a fan of the country.
However, she said that at the most northern peak of the frozen waste, a cave could be found where she left an artifact that she considered too dangerous to leave somewhere else.
It seemed like Kyoko really hated that place, as it barely had any information about it.
After that section, she talked about the Lotus Kingdom, which she had also founded a few years after Kyotora.
Her reasoning was that a family of good people used to manage that entire territory, so all she did was make it an official country and named the family in charge as the royal family.
’That’s pretty similar to what Alejandro did in Kalusia. Maybe she got inspiration from him...’ I thought.
Later, she wrote about the Guanghua Kingdom and how they managed to establish friendly relationships with them.
Kyoko said that Guanghua was a ruthless nation when she first arrived, with slavery being fully legal and a tyrannical government that would execute people for complaining about their dire situations.
Of course, she freed the country of its king and abolished slavery, then placed a royal family she trusted to become the rulers.
’Man, she would be so sad to learn that the Guanghua Kingdom is back to their old ways...’
At the very end, in the final Chapter, Kyoko wrote about the nation called Durinhold, which was the dwarves’ country.
"The dwarves hold a treasure that could be very useful. I didn’t need it, and hopefully you won’t either..." she wrote.
Kyoko didn’t go into detail about what the treasure was, but she explained that it was a weapon that shouldn’t be awakened unless completely necessary.
Curious about its contents, Lang asked us about it, so I told him that it was a travel journal with information on every country in the world.
I didn’t tell him about the secret elves’ password since it was a secret after all, but we told him about the supposed weapon in the dwarves’ nation.
"Hmm, she must have been referring to Gorgon..." Lang said.
Sage Lang elaborated further and explained that Gorgon was the name of an ancient weapon that dwarves had created over a thousand years ago.
"It is said that it was only used once, but nobody knows against who or what..." the sage continued.
After spending a pretty long time in the secret library, we went back to the banquet, where we found our group with their bellies full and smiles on their faces.
Sage Lang approached the king, who was still present at the banquet, and whispered something to him while gazing at Melina and me.
Later, when the celebration was over and the group was escorted out of the palace, the king asked us both to stay for a bit longer, with Lang standing next to him.
"I’ve been told you can read the scriptures..." King Hiroshi said.
"We can, although I can’t tell you the reason," I replied.
I still didn’t fully trust the king, so there was no chance that I was going to tell him the true nature of our powers.
I trusted the sages because there was an unspoken agreement between us where all of our secrets stayed with us, but the king had been pretty trashy the entire time we were here, except for the last day.
Even after he apologized to his concubines and children, it seemed to me like he was just playing on the side of the winner, and I thought that was scummy, especially considering they were his family.
Melina stayed quiet during the conversation, as she didn’t even know why she was able to read the scriptures in the first place.
"Sage Ichiro, is there a reason you can’t tell us?" Lang asked, seemingly preoccupied.
*sigh* "Look..." I said with a tired tone.
"I don’t mind talking about this with other sages, but do you really expect me to share my secrets with King Hiroshi?" I asked, making the two of them widen their eyes with surprise.
"Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s good that the king apologized for his past behavior, but that doesn’t mean I trust him..." I continued.
"A king that neglected his entire family and only recognized them after one of them achieved something big. That’s just not enough for me to think you are trustworthy." I said.
The king raised his hand and interjected. "Don’t you think all humans make mistakes?" he asked.
"Huh? Your family has been here their entire lives! Yuki is 17 years old, and today was the first time you said something nice to her..." I replied.
"Was raising the crown prince to be a tyrant your view of a ’good heir’? Don’t make me laugh. I can tell that the order you gave today about equal opportunities for your children is a sham..."
"You wanna know what was written in some of those scriptures?" I asked with a sarcastic tone.
"The founder talked about how she chose the perfect family to rule this nation. I can only imagine her watching this shitshow from wherever she is right now..." I said, making the king look down with apprehension.
It seemed like my words were getting to him, and I wasn’t finished telling him off.
"By the way, Sage Lang, I would have shared with you these secrets, but after seeing your relationship with the king, I decided I can’t trust you either. Not for now, at least..." I commented, surprising the sage.
Right after we returned from the secret library, he went straight to the king to tell him that we were able to read the scriptures. I didn’t really care that they knew, but I did ask him to keep it between us back then.
Still, seeing them together made me believe that Lang simply followed the king’s orders without questioning them, so if I told him my secrets, he would just divulge them to the king later.
"You are a Sage, not some king’s lapdog. Whenever you decide to take your role seriously, then I’ll be willing to talk more." I said.
It may have been very rude of me to say that to them, but someone had to say it. Seriously, these guys were too comfortable doing whatever they wanted without anyone calling them out.
