My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 206: Alchemic Research
Chapter 206: Alchemic Research
The following day, after I talked with the headmaster in his office about the incident, I thought about going to End Forest to check on Reinar and Jen.
I had been given a few days to rest, so I decided to pay the alchemists a visit to see how they were doing with their research.
The last time I talked to them, they said they had been making progress with the new herbs, and my curiosity was getting the better of me.
However, someone knocked on my door before I could teleport out of my room, which was strange considering that I was at the professor’s tower.
"Ichiro, what are you doing today?" said Melina from behind the door.
When I opened it, I noticed that it wasn’t just the princess looking for me, but also her two roommates, Yuki and Eve, Keiko, Luca, Enzo, and some other kid named Marco, who was friends with them too.
"Umm, I was thinking of going to End Forest to check on Reinar and Jen... Wanna come?" I asked the group.
Melina told me that they wanted to do something fun, and while I didn’t think that End Forest was "fun," they thought otherwise and accepted my invitation.
With the help of Melina, we teleported the group and appeared right in front of the tree house.
"Woah..." said the elven princess as she looked up at the massive redwood that towered above everything in the forest.
The other students were just as shocked, inspecting their surroundings with curiosity.
’We could count this as a school trip or something...’ I thought.
While Melina showed the students around the area, I went inside the tree house and was greeted by all the alchemists, who were working all over the house at this point.
The workshop area ended up being too small for the number of people who were working inside, so they now had herbs and potions all over the living room and kitchen on the first floor.
"Guys, If you needed more space, you should have just called me..." I commented, but the alchemists said that they didn’t want to bother me with that when they could work anywhere else in the house.
I let out a sigh and went up to the workshop, where Reinar and Jen were focused on brewing a blue potion that I had never seen before.
"Oh, Ichiro, come here, check this out!" Reinar exclaimed as soon as he saw me going through the door.
While Jen kept stirring the large bowl, Reinar moved to one side of the room, grabbed a vial that was filled with the light blue substance, and gave it to me with a bright smile on his face.
<Invisibility Potion
Makes the individual invisible to the naked eye.
One sip lasts one minute.>
"Wait, this is pretty cool..." I muttered as I inspected the potion.
"Right!?" said Jen as she kept stirring the contents inside the bowl.
"Although, you guys know we are never going to sell this, right?" I asked, and the two alchemists nodded with understanding.
I mean, it was common sense that selling a potion like this to the public would be dangerous since criminals could use it to their advantage. However, it could be beneficial for us.
After that, he showed me a lilac potion that looked like poison, but Reinar explained it was the only thing they could brew with the dream flowers.
<Sleeping Potion
Makes the individual sleep soundly.
Produces vivid dreams.
Can unlock repressed thoughts and memories.>
The second potion seemed to be a cure for insomnia, but it did have a few other effects that could prove to be either very helpful or just plain awful.
’It can unlock repressed memories...’ I thought.
That was the main effect that worried me. If a person like the two women we saved from the goblins drank this potion, then those memories that I deleted from their minds could have a chance of returning to them.
However, if someone were attacked and lost their memories, then the potion wouldn’t be as destructive to their brains as it would be to those ladies.
"Yeah, let’s not sell this one either..." I said, and both Jen and Reinar agreed with me.
The last potion they showed me was dark red, which made it look like blood, but Reinar reassured me that it was the color of the vermilion vines.
<Illusion Blocker
Makes the individual immune to illusive effects.
One sip gives five minutes of immunity.
Drinking too much might lead to heart problems.>
"Oh, this is good!" I exclaimed, startling the two alchemists.
"Yep. Seems like it’s a natural counter to the Illusive Forest, but we couldn’t fill the vials all the way..." Jen commented.
She explained that since the vermilion vines had an effect that could give the person heart problems if they drank too much of it, the alchemists had to find the best middle ground where the potion wouldn’t be detrimental to the user.
"Drinking the whole potion would make the person immune to illusions for about five hours, but they can’t drink it again for 24 hours..." Jen elaborated.
However, her explanation didn’t make me feel any better.
’5 hours? That’s not much, and then I can’t drink it for another day...’ I thought.
If we sold these potions to soldiers or merchants who wanted to travel across the forest, we would only be giving them five hours of protection, but crossing the whole area could last one to two days, depending on how fast they traveled.
In the worst-case scenario, people would drink the potion only to end up in the middle of the forest with no protection and over half of the path left to travel.
"We are still working on it. Hopefully, we can increase the lasting effect and reduce the damaging effects..." said Jen.
Still, I could get some good use of the prototypes they came up with, primarily the "illusion blocker."
’I could probably make a lot of progress in building a road across the forest in five hours...’ I pondered.
With my mind set on trying them out, I took a couple of the illusion blocker vials so that I could start working on the Illusive Forest road while they perfected the formula and stowed them away inside my void pocket.
