My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 205: Safe Return
Chapter 205: Safe Return
After we returned to the academy, the students from my group approached me with worried expressions, asking me if I was okay as there was still blood staining my suit.
"I’m alright, guys. I already had a healing potion..." I replied to the group.
The other students were talking to their professors, some of them still agitated from the events.
When we got attacked by the werewolves, I sent a message to Melina and my companions, asking them to help the other teams that we weren’t keeping a watch on.
Nonetheless, it seemed like I underestimated the professors since Melina told me that when she got to the other team, Professor Bruno had already killed the monster. Thanks to that, the princess was able to get to my position and support me sooner.
The headmaster gave everyone present a few days of rest, telling us to recover and return to classes when our minds had calmed down.
It was still nighttime, and while the students and professors went to their rooms, I went to Devon’s office to discuss with him the events that transpired.
A few days prior to the exam, we had scouted the entire area and didn’t find a single trace of those werewolves, much less of a devil.
In a way, I felt like the whole thing had been my fault since Drakzen was targeting me.
’If I wasn’t a teacher here. Would he have tried to do the same thing?’ I wondered.
If the devil wanted to kill the students, then he could have done so if he appeared somewhere else. But he decided to appear before me, knowing full well who I was.
While we didn’t have proof that the werewolves had been sent or controlled by Drakzen, it seemed more plausible than passing it as a mere coincidence where all teams got attacked by the same type of monster at the same time. Besides, he said himself that they were "failed experiments."
The headmaster said that he would contact the "Mage’s Tower" and ask them to send some people to increase the security of the academy.
The "Mage’s Tower" was a location in the country of Balinesia, where people who wanted to dedicate their lives to the research of magic resided.
The headmaster explained that any allied country could request the mages at the tower to help with any kind of task as long as they were compensated.
"I received my ’Sage’ title while I was living on that tower..." Devon commented, saying he spent 20 years at the tower studying magic before becoming the headmaster.
As we kept talking about the dangers of the devil and the threat he posed to the academy, I apologized to Devon.
"That devil was looking for me. If I hadn’t been here, then the exam would have gone smoothly..." I said, feeling a bit dejected.
Devon shook his head in denial. "He may have been looking for you, but that doesn’t mean it’s your fault..." he said.
After the old man tried to console me from feeling like I ruined the event, his attitude turned a bit more serious when he asked me to tell him all I knew about the devils and their weaknesses.
Now, if it had been a random person asking me, I would have probably made something up. However, Devon was a Sage like me, and he was asking in case he needed to face another one in the future.
There was no simple way to explain, so I uncensored my information and asked the headmaster to inspect me, letting him read the "Child of Phelena" title.
"Ah, a demi-god..." He muttered, placing a hand on his chin.
The reason I showed him my real title was because I needed it to explain how "awakening" worked.
The awakening was a state of mind that allowed my body to tap into incredibly powerful magic, going as far as to let me borrow weapons from the goddess’s armory.
Each awakening was different, depending on the type of magic that the person was the most adept at casting.
However, since Phelena had given me an affinity for all types, all I truly had to worry about was having enough MP to get to that state.
I told the headmaster that I had awakened two different times.
The first one was during the battle with Armaros close to Port Town Blue. At that time, my MP wasn’t enough for me to get to that state since I wasn’t even 16 years old, so I had to receive help from my companions and Melina, who fused their MP into me and allowed me to tap into that power.
It was a "moon awakening," since that was the type we were using the most during that battle, and since it was a full moon, Yoru was buffed to the point where the MP that he infused into me was almost too high of an amount.
"With the moon magic awakening, I summoned a massive double-edged sword that was called Phelena’s moonblade," I said, getting into more details.
The headmaster was listening attentively, almost taking notes of all the information I was giving him.
My second awakening happened in the battle against Zagor, and while I had the MP to cast it by myself, it still wasn’t easy, and I ended up receiving help from the MP that was stored on my "whisper pearl" that Melina gave me as a birthday gift.
I awakened with fire magic at that time, but it wasn’t the usual fire that everyone could cast, but phoenix fire, which was only possible thanks to the blessing I received from Acalan.
"Phoenix fire burns as hot as your emotions, so the angrier I got at the devil, the stronger the flames were..." I elaborated.
"And what weapon could you summon in that state?" Devon asked curiously.
I told him the story about the flaming bow that had no arrows, expressing how powerful it was that disintegrated Zagor’s body instantly. Still, it did take a significant toll on my body afterward.
The headmaster nodded and said that he had read something similar a long time ago at the mage’s tower. However, some of his peers dismissed the book as a fairy tale, so it was never considered a theory that mages were researching.
’Well, that makes sense. If they could never awaken, then they probably thought that it was all lies...’
