Chapter 204: Three Sages Vs. The Traveling Devil

During my encounter with the devil, Melina arrived after taking care of the werewolf that attacked her team and began supporting me against the monster.

A few minutes later, Headmaster Devon appeared in front of me, which made me think he had been using his "home dimension" spell.

It was three sages against one devil, so I believed that we had a good chance of killing him.

"Don’t give him a second to breathe..." I muttered, and at that exact moment, Devon appeared beside the devil with a fully charged open palm with wind magic.

The old sage struck the devil with his palm, creating a gust of wind that sent him rolling on the ground dozens of meters away.

Right as his movement stopped, Melina crashed down on Drakzen with her rapier, stabbing his arm and raising the ground around the point of impact.

The devil quickly covered himself with black flames, making Melina step away using wind magic.

’We are not letting you breathe...’ I thought, casting a wave of phoenix fire that cut through his black flames, leaving an opening for me to approach him and punch his face with an explosive fist.

Drakzen was pushed out of his black flames, and before he could crash against a tree, Devon appeared behind him with his palm generating purple rays of electricity.

With a strong pose, the old sage waited until the devil’s body was within reach and pushed his palm against it, creating a blast that vaporized one of Drakzen’s arms.

Then, the three of us launched ourselves simultaneously at the monster with our weapons raised and our eyes ready to end his life. However, Drakzen would prove to be much more of a problem than we thought.

Before any of us could reach him, hundreds of shadowy spikes came out of the ground, and while we were able to dodge any significant damage from them, it still grazed our skins.

’No big deal. Just a leg scratch... oh?’ I thought, feeling like my body was weakening.

"Poison..." The headmaster muttered as he held onto the scratch on his arm.

I was already having problems moving freely before getting poisoned since I still had two stab wounds on my leg and shoulder from fighting the blood werewolf, but the little scratch that I received was hindering me much more.

Melina’s wound was a bit deeper, so the poison had a quicker effect on her, making her put one knee on the ground as she struggled to keep standing.

The poison made our joints extremely tense, so any movement that we made was quite painful.

Drakzen prepared himself with a deranged expression. "Three sages! I told you, it’s my lucky day!" he yelled.

With our movements impaired, I tried opening my void pocket to pull out a potion, but Drakzen saw through my facade and rushed at me as his severed hand regenerated.

I clenched my teeth and prepared myself to endure the strike, but just before he could get to me, Vespera and Yoru appeared from my shadow, clawing him and kicking him back.

Without moving her eyes off the target, Vespera used her poison-weaving skills to cleanse it from our bodies in an instant.

That was one of Vespera’s skills. Being able to create or cleanse any poison, no matter how deadly.

"Thanks, Vesp. You saved us back there..." I muttered, standing back up as the strength returned to my body.

"No worries. We made it just in time," she replied, not moving her gaze away from Drakzen.

"Hmmm... This looks troublesome..." the devil said, placing his hand on his chin inquisitively while looking at the five of us.

’Is he going to try to escape?’ I thought before rushing at him, not wanting to let the monster go at large.

Following my lead, the other two sages and my companions prepared their offensive, and as I began exchanging blows with the devil, Yoru appeared behind his shadow and clawed his back.

Melina used magic to propel herself and sliced the sides of his torso while Vespera stabbed one of his arms using her spider legs.

Drakzen was receiving a good ol’ beating from us, not letting him move freely as he received a different strike every second that passed.

Each time that the devil tried to counter, there was someone from our group who halted his attacks with another. He simply had no chance of casting anything against us.

At one point, Drakzen widened his eyes, and his imposing aura made us flinch momentarily, except for Devon, who appeared behind him using his "home dimension."

With the old sage’s eyes filled with determination, he waved his hand horizontally and generated a wave of purple lightning aimed at the devil’s neck.

Drakzen managed to jump and avoid the killing blow. However, the attack cut off one of his horns, which I knew took a longer time to regenerate than other parts of their bodies.

After the devil landed, we all launched ourselves at him again to finish him off, but we were stopped in our tracks when we saw the evil smile on his face.

His eerie and uncomfortable aura grew much stronger in size and potency, even shaking the ground under us and making us slightly lose our step.

"You have proved to be quite entertaining! I’m sure we will meet again..." Drakzen said before laughing loudly.

At that moment, we all jumped back at him, landing on his position and generating a massive explosion as all of our spells fused together at the point of impact. Nonetheless, Drakzen was nowhere to be seen, with his presence wholly gone.

As I stood in the center of the rubble and dirt from the wake of our final attack, I let out a disappointed sigh, feeling like we had lost the fight.

I mean, he was the one who ran away, but letting the devil escape made it feel like we were the ones who lost. Besides, I could tell that Drakzen wasn’t using his full power during our encounter.

He maintained his semi-human appearance throughout the entire fight, which I knew hindered them from unleashing their full powers since Armaros and Zagor transformed their bodies whenever they got serious.

To be fair, though, I also wasn’t using my full power, but that was because I still couldn’t control the potency of my spells whenever I awakened, which could have been dangerous for my allies.

After we took some potions to heal our injuries, we returned to the academy using Devon’s "home dimension," where the rest of the students and professors who were saved previously were waiting for us.
