My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 198: Students’ Curiosity

Chapter 198: Students’ Curiosity

A few hours passed after I left with Team 1 from the capital, and we were making our way to West Port quite smoothly, which made me think that we had cleared the area too much before the exam.

When nighttime started to come down on us, the group stopped on the side of the dirt road and began taking out long pieces of wood and fabric from the back of the cart, which they used to build three tents.

One tent was for me, one for the two girls, and the other for the two boys.

Obviously, I didn’t actually need a tent to sleep in since I could just build a room with earth magic like I had been doing all this time. However, it was part of the test for the students to give their chaperones accommodations.

The point was to make it feel like they were escorting someone to another town, so giving me food and a place to sleep was part of their grading scores.

While the group was building the tents, I felt a presence coming from the towering trees and used my "search" spell.

It was a group of three E-ranked monsters that looked like small bears mixed with tigers, which was strange, considering how scary they looked and how low-level they were.

I kept my mouth shut since I wasn’t supposed to help them and waited for the group to find the monsters on their own.

A few minutes later, while they were still building the tents, Keiko said that she would scout around the area.

’Mhmm, point for Keiko...’ I thought as I wrote it down on my notes.

Without the rest of the group seeing me, I flew up to keep an eye on Keiko, seeing that she was walking straight toward the monsters.

However, she stopped herself before getting to see them and returned to the group, saying that she felt something in the woods.

’She didn’t check it out by herself. She felt the danger and went back to her group... Points for Keiko again.’ I thought as I gently floated in the air, scribbling on my notes.

I was wearing the suit that Headmaster Devon had gifted me, which I had Vespera enchant with all of the same spells that were used on my poncho.

I could fly without the enchantments on my clothing, but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t a waste of MP, so the enchantments were still my best option.

The group took out their weapons and decided to check the area together, making me write down a few extra points for all of them.

When they finally encountered the monsters, I descended on top of a tree to get a better view of everyone.

The savage bears growled at the group as they stood their ground and kept their weapons raised, with Florencia being the first to act, casting a fireball at the bears without saying a word and hitting one of them in the face.

While the monster suffered considerable damage, it wasn’t enough to take it out, and launched itself at the princess enraged.

Enzo lunged with his sword and stabbed the monster on the side, prompting the other two bears to attack the rest of the group.

’Nice swordplay. Points for Enzo...’ I thought.

Gunther used a spear as his weapon, and the guy was exceptionally talented when I saw him avoid the attacks of the monster with ease and counter with his weapon, slashing the bear’s arms and body.

Keiko, on the other hand, focused on casting earth magic and raised a wall from the ground, making the bear that was running toward her crash its head against it.

The wall crumbled after the bear hit it with all its strength, but before the monster could keep moving, Florencia shot another fireball to support her teammate, killing the bear.

Once their battle was over, the group returned to the camp and finished building the tent and firepit for the night.

As we sat around the fire, the students took out a crate with rations and began passing them along to eat. However, it was the same type of food that knights would eat whenever they were on the road.

I remembered traveling with Harvey years ago. When I first visited the capital, all of the knights ate the same beef jerky and hard bread.

At the time, I could help them and pull out good food from my void pocket, but I wasn’t allowed to do that here.

I did think about going inside my tent and eating something from my void pocket without the students noticing, but I would feel kind of bad if I had a feast while the students ate this trash.

In the end, I ate the beef jerky with them in solidarity.

Gunther seemed curious about the war, considering he was from the Droman Empire. He had apparently received numerous letters from his parents telling him about the situation.

However, he wanted to know the details from someone who was there firsthand.

"Is it true that it was a devil?" he confidently asked.

I placed my hand on my chin and thought about what to answer.

The fact that Zagor had conquered Kalusia was true, but people in the continent who never had any sort of contact with beastkins wouldn’t know what the problem was exactly.

For some time, rumors that the beastkins had allied with the devil went around the continent, but the end of the war changed that.

After people started learning the truth of what had been happening in Kalusia for the past few years, they began to realize that the entire nation had been enslaved.

While it was good for the beastkins reputation that people in the continent knew the truth so they wouldn’t be considered allies of the devils, it also spread fear among the citizens.

They believed that if a devil could conquer one nation, then nothing was stopping another one from trying the same on the others.

Nonetheless, these guys weren’t little children anymore. I mean, they were 17, so it’s not like I would have considered them as adults, but they were old enough to know the reality of the world.

Without sparing any details from the war and the atrocities that Zagor committed, I told them what Kalusia had gone through.

"D-do you have any advice if we ever encounter one?" Keiko asked nervously.

"Well, hopefully, you never see one. But if you do... run." I said, warning them not to get close to a devil or even talk to them, ever.

The only reason I was able to battle against those monsters was thanks to my awakening powers. Meaning that normal mages and fighters like them would absolutely get destroyed if they encountered a devil.

Still, Keiko didn’t look too pleased with my answer and clenched her shirt with a hint of frustration.
