My five ghostly husbands -
Chapter 129 Lazy
Chapter 129: Chapter 129 Lazy
"Didn’t I ask them to recite all the alphabets today?" she thought, sitting up straighter, eyes narrowing at the empty space in front of her.
"Karl! Julian! Milo!" she called out, her voice loud and sharp.
In his room, Julian flinched, nearly dropping his robe. He had just finished cleaning his wardrobe—again. He did it every day, almost religiously. His heart did a quick double-thump.
Beside him, Karl didn’t even lift his head from where he was sprawled across the bed, one arm lazily draped over his face. He cracked one eye open, already looking annoyed.
"What’s wrong with her now?" Karl mumbled, rubbing his temple.
Julian shut his book with a soft thud, sighing. "Let’s just go see."
He was already at the door when Karl dragged himself up with exaggerated reluctance, shuffling behind him.
Out in the hallway, they spotted Milo trudging toward the living room. His Brown hair stuck up in wild directions, and his eyes were half-lidded, barely awake.
Milo exhaled a long breath through his nose. "Only reason I’m going is ’cause she called. Anyone else, and I’d still be in bed."
Julian just shook his head and kept walking.
Karl snorted quietly.
Milo, walking beside him, looked half-dead—eyes barely open, hair a mess, and swaying slightly like a zombie that forgot how to walk.
They headed toward Ruby, who was already waiting for them.
Julian glanced at her calmly, waiting for an explanation.
She crossed her arms, tapping her fingers against her elbow. "Didn’t I ask you three to recite the alphabets today?"
Karl groaned, running a hand through his hair. "We did... kind of."
Milo mumbled something incoherent under his breath, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand.
Julian raised an eyebrow. "He fell asleep halfway through."
Milo blinked slowly. "I was conserving energy."
Karl smirked. "Yeah? For what, hibernation?"
Milo yawned. "Can I go back to bed now?"
Ruby stared at Milo, completely shocked. She had never seen him this lazy before.
She glanced at Julian, raising a brow. "Is he always like this, or should I be worried?"
Julian smiled softly. "Wife, this is normal for Milo. If you hadn’t called, he’d still be sleeping. Honestly... he’s the biggest sleeping king in the house." His voice was light, but there was a fondness to the way he said it.
Ruby blinked. "And here I thought Karl was the laziest."
"Excuse me?" Karl’s head snapped up immediately, eyes narrowing in offense. "I’m right here, you know."
Julian glanced at Karl with a small, apologetic smile. "She didn’t mean it like that."
"I definitely did." Ruby crossed her arms, grinning.
Karl huffed, shooting her a sharp glare. "I’m not lazy. I’m just... selectively active."
Julian let out a quiet laugh, covering his mouth as if he didn’t want to embarrass Karl further. "We can call it that if it makes you feel better."
Karl pointed at him. "Don’t think I won’t remember this, Julian."
Milo yawned in the background, rubbing his watery eyes. "Can I go now...?"
Ruby shook her head, chuckling under her breath. "Go, Milo. I’ll let you all off this time."
Milo gave a sleepy thumbs up and shuffled away. Karl followed, still grumbling softly to himself.
Ruby sat with one leg crossed over the other, watching as Karl quietly tried to sneak after Milo out of the living room.
Her eyes narrowed, and she smirked. "Hey, hey! Karl, I just let Milo go—where do you think you’re sneaking off to?"
Karl froze mid-step. He turned slowly, eyes wide with guilt. "Why?"
Ruby leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "Because you still have to recite the alphabets. You’re not sleepy, right?"
Karl’s eyes narrowed. "I could be if that gets me out of this."
Ruby chuckled. "Nice try. Come back here."
Julian stood quietly beside Ruby, straightened up as she turned her attention to him.
"And Julian, did you memorize it too?" she asked, watching him closely.
Julian gave a soft nod, his hands tucked neatly behind his back. "Of course, wife. Would you like me to recite it now?"
Ruby smiled. "Go ahead."
Julian began, his voice smooth and soft. He flowed through the alphabets gently, only pausing once or twice when he slipped up. But he corrected himself quickly, finishing without much trouble.
Ruby nodded, pleased. "Good job, Julian."
Julian’s shoulders relaxed a little, and he gave a small, gentle smile.
Meanwhile, Karl, who had been quietly biting his thumb, shifted awkwardly where he stood. His eyes darted toward the hallway like he was calculating his chances of escape.
Ruby caught the look immediately and grinned.
"You’re up next," She said, leaning back into the sofa. "Come on, show me what you’ve got."
Karl dragged his feet as he walked over, grumbling the entire way. "I’m not as bad as think, you know."
Ruby raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "We’ll see about that."
Ruby glanced at Julian, then patted the seat beside her.
Julian hesitated, his fingers lightly tapping against his leg. His eyes flickered to the empty spot, and after a moment, he quietly sat down next to her. His posture was stiff, and Ruby didn’t miss how the tips of his ears had turned bright red.
"Alright, Karl. Start," Ruby said, turning her attention to him.
Karl, who had been standing there biting his lip, shot her a glare. His baby blue eyes flicked nervously around the room, settling briefly on Julian before darting away again.
"Why are you both staring at me?" Karl snapped, his arms flailing slightly. "I can’t concentrate with you guys watching like that!" His face was serious, but the frustration only made him look more ridiculous.
Ruby arched an eyebrow, leaning against the armrest. "We’re just waiting, Karl. No one’s judging you... yet."
Julian couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle, but he quickly covered his mouth when Karl glared harder.
Before Ruby could tease him more, the doorbell rang.
Karl’s eyes widened like he’d just been handed a lifeline. Without another word, he bolted toward the door.
"I’ll get it!" he called, practically sprinting.
A second later, his voice carried through the whole house. "Brother Adi!" Karl called out excitedly. "Come in, I’ll heat up some food for you!"
Without waiting for a response, he dashed toward the kitchen, leaving the door wide open.
