Chapter 128 Most handsome

Chapter 128: Chapter 128 Most handsome

Finally, Ruby leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees, and met his expectant gaze.

"You’re the least handsome in the house."

Karl’s eyes widened as if she had just slapped him. "What?!"

"Last place. Bottom of the list." Ruby added, barely holding back her laughter.

Karl’s whole body tensed up, his expression shifting into something that looked like an angry cat with its fur standing on end. His shoulders rose slightly, and his eyes narrowed as if he was ready to hiss at any moment.

"I live here, Ruby!" he exclaimed, pacing faster. "How am I last in my own house?!"

Ruby shrugged, her smirk growing. "I just call it like I see it."

"You—crazy man!" Ruby shouted, her voice loud as Karl suddenly lunged at her, landing on the sofa beside her.

Before she could react, his hands shot up to her face, pinching her cheeks like a child playing with dough.

"What does that even mean?!" Karl huffed, squishing her cheeks together like it would somehow change her answer. "I don’t care – you’re weird! I’m not letting go until you admit I’m the most handsome!"

Ruby’s eyes widened in disbelief, her hands flailing as she tried to pry his grip off her face.

"You—ow—you leech! Let me go! I have sensitive skin!" she growled, squirming under his relentless grip.

"Sensitive skin, huh? Well, guess what? Sensitive skin can still lie!" Karl teased, rubbing her cheeks vigorously with his palms, making her lips puff out ridiculously.

"Karl!" Ruby twisted to the side, narrowly avoiding his next pinch. "I swear, if I break out because of this, you’re paying for all my skincare!"

Karl smirked.

Ruby glared at him, narrowing her eyes even as he squished her face further.

"Fine! Fine! You’re the most handsome man in the house—now get off!" she finally snapped, giving in.

Karl grinned triumphantly, releasing her as if nothing had happened. "See? That wasn’t so hard."

Ruby rubbed her cheeks, scowling at him. "You’re ridiculous."

"And handsome," Karl added smugly, leaning against the sofa.

Ruby shook her head, glaring at Karl as she rubbed her sore cheeks.

"You’re impossible," she muttered.

Karl only grinned wider, clearly enjoying himself.

Ruby rolled her eyes, giving him a once-over.

But she couldn’t help but admit the robe did look good on him.

"It looks great on you," she said, almost reluctantly.

Karl’s head snapped toward her, his grin turning smug. "Oh? What was that? Say it louder, wife."

Ruby crossed her arms, raising a brow. "Don’t push your luck."

Ruby tilted her head thoughtfully, eyeing the way the robe fit his frame. ’I should make more... in XL sizes,’ she thought quietly.

Ruby leaned back into the sofa, watching Karl as he stretched out beside her, completely at ease in the robe she had sewn.

Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully. The market...

She had noticed something last time she went. Most of the robes being sold were limited to small (S), medium (M), and large (L) sizes.

There was almost nothing in extra-large (XL).

Ruby tapped her fingers lightly against her arm. If I start making robes in XL, she thought, it might catch the attention of people struggling to find something that fits.

It was a simple idea, but one that could work.

Not everyone fit into standard sizes, and tailoring was expensive. If she could offer ready-made robes in larger sizes...comfortable, well-fitted, and easy to wear—it could make a difference.

A few minutes later, Karl changed back into his regular clothes.

🪄🪄

When Julian and Milo returned from the market, their arms full of groceries and supplies, they set the bags down with a sigh of relief.

Ruby watched them quietly from the sofa, noticing the faint traces of exhaustion on their faces. The heat from the market, combined with carrying all those bags, must have worn them out.

Feeling a sympathy, she stood up, brushing off her robe. "You two must be tired. I’ll make lunch today," she offered casually, already heading toward the kitchen.

But the moment the words left her mouth, both Julian and Milo snapped to attention, shaking their heads vigorously.

"No, you can’t, wife!" Julian said firmly, stepping in front of her as if to block the entrance to the kitchen.

Milo followed quickly, puffing out his chest in an attempt to look serious. "It’s our duty!"

Ruby blinked, caught off guard by their sudden protest. "It’s just lunch..."

"Exactly," Julian interrupted gently, offering Ruby a soft smile. "Witches should focus on their careers, not kitchens." His eyes flickered to Ruby.

Ruby arched a brow. "Is that so?"

Before she could respond, Karl, who was standing behind her, cracked his knuckles. "Alright, alright. Let me handle it, then."

The room fell silent for a moment.

Julian’s eyes widened in alarm. "No, no—Brother Karl, you rest in peace!" he blurted out, stepping in front of him as if Karl had just suggested something catastrophic.

Milo nodded rapidly, his curls bouncing as he backed Julian up. "Yeah, we’ve got this under control. You just... sit down. Far away from the kitchen."

Karl narrowed his eyes, folding his arms across his chest. "I can help, you know."

Julian didn’t budge. "I don’t like when someone else enters my kitchen."

"Okay, okay... but don’t get angry," Karl pouted.

After lunch, the house grew quiet, the soft clinking of dishes in the kitchen fading as Julian and Milo finished cleaning up.

🪄🪄🪄

Levi stepped into his house, shutting the door behind him with more force than necessary. His expression twisted with displeasure as he kicked off his shoes.

"Mom, I saw Julian and Milo at the market today," he muttered, dropping onto the nearest chair with a huff. "They were buying all kinds of things... groceries, lunch boxes..." His lips curled into an ugly sneer.

Across the room, Grace, his mother, looked up from where she sat quietly by the window, her eyebrows lifting in surprise.

"Julian?" she repeated. "He’s really living that well?"

Her eyes narrowed slightly, a greedy glint flickering within them.

A sharp smile tugged at her lips. "It won’t last long."

"Hmm..." Levi hummed absently, his eyes fixed on the floor, lost in thought.

Grace watched him closely. She could tell when her son’s mind was racing, his gaze distant, his lips pressed tightly together.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked gently, tilting her head as she waited for him to speak.

Levi’s fingers tapped lightly against the chair’s armrest. After a long pause, he finally answered, his voice low.

"Mom... you lost your job. And we’re almost out of money." His eyes lifted to meet hers, calm but serious. "We can’t sit around anymore. We need to do something."

"What are you trying to say?" Grace asked, her brows drawing together in a frown.

Levi leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees. His expression stayed calm, but there was a sharpness in his eyes that hadn’t been there before.

"I mean... shouldn’t we go through with our plan sooner?" he said cautiously. "If we wait too long, they might spend everything. And if that happens, we’ll end up with nothing."

Grace’s eyes widened slightly.

"I hadn’t thought of that..." she murmured, tapping her chin thoughtfully.

From the back room, the gruff voice of Levi’s father echoed through the house.

"What are you two plotting together again? I’m telling you—don’t do anything reckless!" he barked, the sound of him scrubbing the floor faintly carrying over.

Grace barely spared a glance in his direction, waving a hand dismissively.

"Oh, hush. Don’t butt into a conversation between a mother and her son."

Levi snorted quietly, leaning back in his chair with a smug look. "Yeah, Dad. Let us handle the thinking."

His father grumbled something under his breath, but the scrubbing didn’t stop.

"I swear, if this house burns down one day, it’ll be because of you two scheming," he muttered loud enough for them to hear.

"We’re not scheming, you old hag!" Grace shouted back, her voice sharp and full of annoyance.

From the other room, Levi’s father snorted. "That’s exactly what someone scheming would say!"

Levi rolled his eyes, leaning casually against the wall. "Ignore him, Mom. He’s always like this."

Grace huffed, crossing her arms. "I know, but sometimes I wonder if he listens in just to make my life harder."

"You’re probably right," Levi chuckled, shaking his head.

Grace’s playful expression slowly faded as her gaze shifted to Levi, her tone becoming serious. She straightened in her seat, folding her hands in her lap as her eyes locked onto his.

"But Levi," she began softly, "I need you to keep an eye on Julian."

"Of course, Mom. Always." His voice was calm.

Grace studied him for a moment before nodding, satisfied by his answer. "Good. I trust you."

On the other side, Ruby felt bored as she lazily worked on the sofa. She absentmindedly twirled a loose thread from the second piece of fabric she had started working on.

Suddenly, she remembered something.

"Didn’t I ask them to recite all the alphabets today?" she thought, sitting up straight.
