Chapter 238 - Chapter 238 238 What are you here for
Chapter 238: 238 What are you here for? Chapter 238: 238 What are you here for? Luo Xiyun was just about to change Chen Xu’s pants when she turned her head and glanced at Secretary Jin, who then remembered to step out, lowering the curtain and exiting.
She took the opportunity to examine the hospital room, which contained four beds, one of which was unoccupied. The other two patients, one appeared to be a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties, and the other a small child, both accompanied by family members.
After a while, Luo Xiyun drew back the curtain, and Chen Xu had already changed into the patient uniform.
“Secretary Jin, I really owe it to you this time for getting him to the hospital for treatment in time,” Luo Xiyun, who now seemed much calmer, began by thanking her.
“It’s my duty,” Secretary Jin shook her head and replied.
In the morning, half an hour past starting time, Chen Xu hadn’t arrived, which she found odd. Having worked with Chen Xu for a while, she knew his professional habits well. He was always very responsible; if he couldn’t make it to the office, he would definitely call her or, at the very least, send a text message. He wouldn’t just disappear without any word.
Hence, she called Chen Xu, and although the phone connected, no one answered, despite her calling five or six times. She then realized something must have gone wrong.
Previously, her father’s illness had worsened because it hadn’t been discovered in time.
Out of concern, she went to Chen Xu’s house, and when no one answered her knocking, she called Luo Xiyun, got the key to Chen Xu’s house from her after explaining the situation, and upon entering found Chen Xu lying in bed.
With a heavy tone, she said, “I hope Mr. Chen recovers soon.”
“He definitely will,” Luo Xiyun replied, looking at Chen Xu, now completely unconscious, his eyes tightly shut. His eyebrows were slightly furrowed and his eyelashes tremulously fluttered, as if experiencing pain in his sleep.
She couldn’t help but walk over, crouch beside the bed, take his hand in hers and rest it against her forehead, seemingly praying for his speedy recovery.
Watching her do this, Secretary Jin felt emotionally stirred. It was clear that Luo Xiyun truly cared about this man; it wasn’t just a simple emotional bond.
She thought of the celebrity who lived next door to her and had an ambiguous relationship with Chen Xu, and suddenly felt somewhat guilty.
Quietly, she left and after a while, returned with a stool for Luo Xiyun to sit on. Turning around, she noticed the untouched takeout box and was about to suggest eating when Luo Xiyun abruptly let go of Chen Xu’s hand, stood up, and said, “I need to go back to the office for a bit, please take care of him for me. I’ll return later.”
Secretary Jin nodded and said, “I will, go ahead.”
Luo Xiyun glanced back at Chen Xu, then left.
…
In the corridor, Secretary Jin called the company’s employees to explain the situation. After hanging up, she returned to the room just as the IV bag was nearly empty, prompting her to press the call button above the bed.
Soon, a young nurse came, changed the IV bag, and kept glancing at Chen Xu’s face, whispering, “It really is him.”
“What?” Secretary Jin didn’t catch what was said, thinking it was some sort of instruction, and asked.
“It’s nothing,” the nurse said, then curiously asked, “Are you his girlfriend?”
“No, he’s my boss,” Secretary Jin replied.
The nurse seemed surprised and remarked, “He’s doing pretty well, huh?”
Having heard clearly this time, Secretary Jin wondered, “You know my boss?”
“Yes, we were high school classmates. At first, I thought it was just someone with the same name,” the nurse replied as she efficiently changed the IV solution and added, “Since I’ve started working, I’ve come across several Chen Xus. I didn’t expect it to actually be him this time.”
She seemed quite happy to see her old classmate, talking more than usual. After changing her medication, she picked up the bedside log and said, “All right, I’m off to work. If you need anything, you can go straight to the nurse’s station and find me. My name is Zhou Juanjuan.”
“Thank you,” said Secretary Jin.
Two hours later, Luo Xiyun came back, followed by Secretary Guo, both carrying quite a few items. It looked like they were planning to stay for a while.
She said, “Secretary Jin, thank you for today. You can leave this place to me and go back first. With Chen Xu not around, the company is all relying on you.”
“I will,” replied Secretary Jin without much fuss, and then he left.
It wasn’t until later that evening, after finishing up work at the company, that Secretary Jin returned to the hospital. Upon arriving at the floor, he bumped into Chen Xu’s high school classmate, Nurse Zhou Juanjuan, who was carrying a tray heading toward the patient’s room.
She curiously asked Secretary Jin, “The one staying by Chen Xu’s bed, is that really his girlfriend?”
Secretary Jin nodded and said, “Yes.”
“That guy managed to find such a beautiful girlfriend?” Zhou Juanjuan’s impression of Chen Xu was still stuck in his high school days, the honest and slow image, so she was especially surprised and exclaimed, “It’s really good to be rich.”
Secretary Jin wanted to say that his girlfriend was actually richer than him, but since they weren’t close, he didn’t mention it and just smiled.
As they spoke, they reached the door and saw Luo Xiyun wiping Chen Xu’s feet with a wet towel.
Although Secretary Jin had already seen her change Chen Xu’s clothes, witnessing this scene still profoundly shocked him. He had been following Luo Xiyun for a while and was very familiar with her.
He found it hard to understand why someone as proud and clean as Luo Xiyun would end up like this, willingly washing a man’s feet.
Can love really change a person completely?
“Your boyfriend is really lucky,” said a middle-aged woman in her forties or fifties, a family member of the patient in the next bed, speaking to Luo Xiyun. “Young people nowadays rarely take care of others like you do.”
Luo Xiyun smiled, didn’t finish speaking, cleaned the towel in the basin, and when she looked up, she saw Secretary Jin and the nurse coming, and nodded her head as a greeting.
Zhou Juanjuan was also somewhat taken aback and couldn’t help but glance at Chen Xu on the bed, having changed a lot since high school, yet still not seemingly charismatic.
She thought this to herself but didn’t forget her duty, going over with the tray to take Chen Xu’s blood pressure.
“Have you eaten yet?” Luo Xiyun placed the basin aside, watching the nurse’s actions, and asked Secretary Jin.
“I’ve already eaten,” Secretary Jin responded. Suddenly, he heard footsteps from behind. The hospital room was very quiet, making the footsteps behind him especially clear.
For some reason, this particular sound of footsteps seemed deeply ingrained in his mind. As soon as he heard them, a figure automatically appeared in his mind.
He instinctively turned around, just in time to see the door being pushed open from the outside and Yang Jinxia, dressed in a sapphire blue long dress, entering. He was startled–it really was her.
What is she doing here?
Secretary Jin knew she and Chen Xu must have had some acquaintance, but surely not to the extent that she would come to the hospital on her own initiative?
At that moment, Luo Xiyun also noticed Yang Jinxia and her expression changed, coldly saying, “What are you doing here?”
As Zhou Juanjuan was taking Chen Xu’s blood pressure, she heard Luo Xiyun’s hostile words, looked up, saw another beautiful woman, and grew extremely curious. What was this woman’s relationship with Chen Xu?
