When the last day passed, Chen Xu’s vision blacked out. When he opened his eyes again, he heard that familiar voice and felt a sense of certainty in his heart.
“Settlement complete, you have earned 500 points for this dream. Congratulations, you have received a full score.”
He was somewhat surprised; to his amazement, it was a full score just like last time.
However, upon reflection, the challenges he faced in this dream were meant to be tackled by millions of players aboard the entire spaceship. That only he had survived was indeed very difficult; a full score was not excessive.
“Congratulations, in this dream, you achieved something special, rising from an ordinary citizen to the captain of the spaceship. You will receive an achievement reward. Please claim it from your personal inventory.”
“The next stage of the dream will begin in two weeks, please look forward to it.”
This prompt surprised him, the idea that in just two weeks, he could re-enter the dream was an unexpected delight.
Thinking about this, he had already opened his personal inventory, where a card flickering with golden light resided.
“Hope it’s a useful skill this time.”
He prayed inwardly as he chose to inspect it. The card flipped over, showing a blindfolded person sitting on a chair, pointing forward, and next to it was the name of the card–Intuition.
“Congratulations, you have obtained a special talent card, Intuition. Would you like to use it?”
A talent card?
He was pleasantly surprised. This was the second talent card he had obtained. The first one was Precision Throwing, which had brought him great benefits; indeed, it had been immensely helpful.
And now, he had obtained another talent card.
The name, however, was a bit strange.
He didn’t speculate further but immediately clicked to use it. The card emitted a dazzling golden light that shone towards him, forcing him to close his eyes.
A grand voice echoed in his ears, “A great cosmic spaceship captain often has an innate intuition for crises that allows him to avoid many unseen dangers.”
Afterward, the light faded, and he reopened his eyes, understanding the purpose of this talent card. From its label, it seemed to provide a keen intuition for danger.
Intuition told him that this talent should be very useful.
…
Chen Xu woke up, opened his eyes to look at the ceiling, and suddenly felt a buzzing sound as if hit by a strong impact, his mind went blank, and he lay there, motionless.
Time passed by, and soon it was nine o’clock. The phone on the bedside cabinet started vibrating, shaking for about a minute before stopping.
After a while, the phone vibrated again, persisting for another minute before ceasing.
This repeated four or five times until it finally quieted down.
When the clock on the wall hit ten-fifteen, there was a persistent knocking at the door, and through it, he could hear a woman’s voice, “Mr. Chen, are you there? Mr. Chen, boss…”
The knocking lasted for a whole four or five minutes before the person outside left.
Half an hour passed, and there was movement at the front door’s lock–a click, and the door was opened from the outside. Secretary Jin, clad in a cream-colored top, walked in and called, “Mr. Chen, are you here?”
As she called out, she walked further inside. Hearing no response, a puzzled look crossed her face, “Could he really not be here? Where would he have gone?”
She mumbled to herself and when she reached the bedroom door, she took hold of the doorknob, gave it a gentle push, and it opened. She caught sight of Chen Xu lying there and was startled, “Mr. Chen, you are home. Mr. Chen, Mr. Chen…”
She called out a few times and a feeling of unease began to creep into her heart. She hastened inside, and seeing his eyes half-open, she knew right away something was seriously wrong. She nudged him several times, “Mr. Chen, Mr. Chen…”
After several nudges and no response, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly took out her phone and dialed the emergency number 120 to call an ambulance.
Immediately after, she got through to Luo Xiyun, “Something’s wrong, Mr. Chen is ill, yes, at his house. I’ve already called an ambulance… Alright, got it.”
After hanging up, Secretary Jin touched Chen Xu’s forehead and checked his pulse. He wasn’t feverish, and his heartbeat wasn’t irregular, so it seemed there was no immediate danger to his life, which allowed her to breathe a bit easier.
The ambulance arrived sooner than expected. Secretary Jin followed Chen Xu, who was now on a stretcher, into the ambulance and called Luo Xiyun to instruct her not to come to Chen Xu’s house but to meet them directly at the hospital.
…
Secretary Jin had just taken Chen Xu into the emergency room when Luo Xiyun rushed in, her face etched with urgency, “Where is he?”
“He’s already in the emergency room; don’t worry, I asked the nurse, and there should be no danger to his life,” Secretary Jin reassured her.
How could Luo Xiyun be at ease? Just last night, they were watching a movie together, perfectly fine. How could he have woken up this morning seriously ill and rushed to the hospital? She asked, “What exactly is wrong with him?”
“The doctor didn’t say. Don’t worry for now, we’ll know after the examination,” Secretary Jin replied.
No matter how anxious Luo Xiyun felt, she could only wait outside the emergency room.
And wait she did, for over an hour.
It was now noon, and Secretary Jin went out to get some food and came back, saying to her, “Eat something.”
Luo Xiyun shook her head, “No thanks, I’m not hungry.”
Secretary Jin was about to insist when the door to the emergency room opened, and a doctor walked out. The two women quickly approached and asked, “Doctor, is he alright? What’s wrong with him?”
“Are you family?” the doctor asked as he removed his mask and took a file from the nurse, signing it.
“I’m his girlfriend.”
“He seems to have some problems with his brain. We performed a CT scan on his head, and there’s something abnormal. The coma was likely triggered by this. Go ahead and get the hospitalization procedures taken care of, and we’ll observe him for a few days.”
Upon hearing it was a brain issue, Luo Xiyun’s expression turned frantic, “Doctor, is it serious?”
“It’s too early to tell,” the doctor didn’t make a final verdict. “For now, there is no danger to his life.” Having said that, the doctor walked away.
Luo Xiyun wanted to ask more, but then she saw a hospital gurney being wheeled out; it was Chen Xu. She quickly ran over, her heart wrenching at the sight of him unconscious, and she murmured, “How could this happen?”
Secretary Jin followed her and, seeing her tormented state, wasn’t sure how to console her. They arrived at the ward, and she told Luo Xiyun to stay with Chen Xu while she placed the food she had brought on the table and went to take care of the hospitalization paperwork.
This was a top-tier hospital, and the wards were in high demand; private rooms were unavailable, so a general ward would have to do. Luckily, the neurology ward Chen Xu was in was newly built, so the environment was quite nice.
After completing the hospitalization process, she returned to the room to see curtains drawn around Chen Xu’s hospital bed. She peered behind them and saw Luo Xiyun helping Chen Xu into his clothing, which took her by surprise.
She had served as Luo Xiyun’s secretary and knew very well that the young boss had severe germophobia. Seeing her dressing a man was an even bigger shock than when she found out she had a boyfriend.
