Chapter 167: Hopeful

While talking, Asher fell asleep and Felix let him sleep without any disturbance.

Felix still didn’t leave the room. He just stayed on the bed, watching Asher.

However, then he heard a knock on the door and went to see who it was.

He didn’t ask who it was because he was upset minded at the time. So, he just walked to the door and opened it where Anne stood with tears in her eyes.

"Anne?"

Felix closed the door and stepped outside, half kneeling, coming face to face with Anne. Felix was surprised she was crying and wiped her tears, then asked her what’s wrong.

Well...he had a lot of reasons that might involve him for her reasons to cry, but he couldn’t choose one.

Could it be...she is crying because he had scared her by staying ’sick’ all this time?

Or...was it because he came outside yet didn’t meet her?

Or...was it because someone else upsetted her?

Felix questioned Anne but she just cried and cried. Seeing her not saying anything, worried and frustrated as she rarely cries and must be upsetted by something big, Felix picked her up and walked to his office where he sat down and held her till she stopped crying.

Anne clutched onto his clothes and wetted Felix’s clothes with her tears. But Felix couldn’t even be mad since he was worried.

She didn’t seem hurt physically. So...something else must be bothering her.

"Anne, why are you crying?"

Felix asked and Anne hiccuped again, then crying harder.

She did try to say something which was not very clear. But Felix heard something similar to...

But he wasn’t sure since it was not related anywhere at all.

Still, he patiently waited till she calmed down and talked to him. But...it did take some time.

"Finally done crying?"

Felix asked and wiped her tears, then wiped her nose with his handkraft.

Anne let him do it and nodded to the question, then waited for him to ask the question.

"Sigh...what happened? Why are you crying?"

Felix asked in a teasing manner, pinching Anne’s cheek to ease the tense expression on her face.

"I am a horrible daughter."

Anne said and Felix was quite taken back by that.

"Why...why are you saying something like that? You are not horrible."

Felix said and Anne started sobbing again.

She couldn’t...

The guilt was eating her alive.

She messed up his life and...him having no clue, he says she is not horrible.

She was horrible.

She was the worst.

She knew it.

She deserved the worst for everything she had done.

Since...she was still unwilling to confess.

So...she is indeed horrible and will be horrible too. But she can’t help it.

"Anne?"

Felix called Anne again and again till she looked at him. Seeing Felix staring at her with worry, Anne felt so much hate toward herself. She...was so selfish.

"I couldn’t heal you when you were sick. I am so horrible."

Anne said as she hid her face in Felix’s clothes.

"Sigh...But now I am fine. Alas, we have your brother Lucas. He healed me. Look, I am fine."

Felix said and Anne looked at the smile on his face, her lips trembling.

’How could you be fine? You don’t even know...I am sure you will hate me one day...’

Anne hid her face back in Felix’s clothes and silently cried. Felix knew she was crying so he didn’t disturb her and just patted her back, hoping she would be comforted.

"Right...you shouldn’t be worrying about me now. You have to worry about yourself. Did you finish your homework? Miss Lara will be here to continue your study sessions again."

Felix said, trying to distract her.

"...Will she? I will finish my work then."

"Mmm..."

Felix mumbled and watched as Anne stood up and hesitantly tried to say something again.

"I will leave then."

Anne said but Felix felt that was not what she was hesitating to say. For whatever the reason, he didn’t ask her either.

"Okay. "

Felix let Anne leave the room and he also left back to the bedroom where Asher was still sleeping peacefully.

This somewhat triggered Asher and he, without much thinking, slapped the duke’s hand hard.

Felix woke up with just one slap on the hand, with a frown. He didn’t know what woke him up. He just woke up. So when he saw Asher staring at him, now awake, Felix hurriedly got up.

He didn’t think much. Nor did he suspect Asher panicked for a moment because Asher immediately changed his expression when he saw the duke waking up. He...didn’t want the duke to know. If he were to know, it would force him to comfort him saying he was just sleeping and it was nothing.
