Chapter 199: Just what the HELL is going on
As the first rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains, Tang Xue Mei stirred from her sleep. Her phone suddenly began to ring, startling her fully awake.
She answered, "Hello?"
"Miss Xue Mei!" came Barbara’s frantic voice, her mother’s maid from the Faroe Islands. "Something terrible has happened!"
Tang Xue Mei sat up, instantly alert. "Barbara? What’s wrong?"
"It’s your mother," Barbara said, her voice shaking. "She’s been kidnapped! I heard a commotion last night, and when I checked this morning, her room was empty. There’s broken glass and... and some blood. The police are on their way, but I had to call you immediately!"
Tang Xue Mei felt as if the floor had dropped out from beneath her. "What? How? When?" she stammered, her mind reeling.
After getting as many details as she could from the distraught Barbara, Tang Xue Mei ended the call, promising to book the first flight to the Faroe Islands. Her hands trembled as she set the phone down, trying to process the shocking news.
Before she could even begin to plan her next move, her phone rang again. The number was unfamiliar, but she answered quickly, her heart pounding.
"Hello? Is this Tang Xue Mei?" a man’s voice asked, his tone serious.
"Yes, speaking," Tang Xue Mei replied, tension evident in her voice.
"Ms. Tang, I’m Detective Lou from the police department in your sister’s city. I’m afraid I have some disturbing news."
Tang Xue Mei’s grip tightened on her phone. "What’s happened? Is it about my sister?"
The detective’s voice was grave as he continued, "I’m sorry to inform you that your sister has been reported missing. Her neighbor became concerned when she didn’t answer her door for a scheduled appointment and contacted us. When we entered her apartment, we found signs of a disturbance."
"Oh no," Xue Mei whispered, her free hand covering her mouth in shock.
"There’s more," Detective Lou added hesitantly. "We’re aware that your sister is pregnant. Given her condition, we’re treating this as a high-priority case."
The news hit Tang Xue Mei like a punch to the gut. Her pregnant sister, missing. Her mother, kidnapped. Both on the same night, in different locations. The coincidence seemed impossible, and a chill ran down her spine as she realized this couldn’t be random.
"We’ll need you to come to the station as soon as possible," the detective was saying. "We have some questions and need any information you can provide that might help us locate your sister."
Tang Xue Mei agreed, her mind whirling. As she ended the call, she sat on the edge of her bed, trying to process the thought of what was happening.
Tang Xue Mei sprang from her bed, her heart racing not just from fear for her family, but also from the sudden movement. Her hand instinctively went to her swollen belly.
"Shihan!" she called out, her voice trembling as she turned to the other side of the bed.
Empty..
Before rushing towards the study. "Feng Shihan!"
Her bare feet padded quickly across the cool tiled floor as she made her way to the study.
Tang Xue Mei’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions.
As she reached the study door, she paused for a moment, catching her breath. The soft glow of light seeped out from beneath the door, indicating that Feng Shihan was indeed inside. With a trembling hand, she turned the knob and pushed the door open.
"Shihan," she said, her voice barely above a whisper as she stepped into the room. "Something terrible has happened."
Feng Shihan looked up seeing the perspiration on Tang Xue Mei’s face.
Tang Xue Mei’s eyes scanned the room, searching for her husband’s familiar face. She needed his strength now more than ever. As the full situation dawned on her – three generations of her family were in danger – she felt her knees weaken. She steadied herself against the doorframe, one hand still protectively cradling her belly.
"We need to act fast," she said, her voice growing stronger as she spoke. "My mother, my sister... they’re both in danger...." She trailed off, the enormity of the situation threatening to overwhelm her.
"Calm down, sit and tell me what’s going on.."
She took a shaky breath and began to speak, her words tumbling out in a rush.
"Shihan, something terrible has happened," she repeated, her voice quivering. "My mother and sister... they’ve both been kidnapped."
Feng Shihan’s eyes widened in shock before his eyes darkened slightly.
"I just got two calls," she explained, fighting to keep her voice steady. "The first was about my mother. She’s been taken in the Faroe Islands. And then... then the police called about my sister. She’s missing from her apartment, and they found signs of a struggle. Shihan, she’s pregnant too. I’m so scared for them both."
Tears welled up in Xue Mei’s eyes as the full weight of the situation bore down on her. "I don’t understand. Why would anyone take them? And on the same night? It can’t be a coincidence."
Feng Shihan’s grip on her hand tightened reassuringly. "We’ll figure this out, Xue Mei. We’ll find them as they also took Shiyan as well, I got a call from Qin Mingyue," he said, his voice cold as she squeezed Xue Mei’s shoulders gently.
"Who the hell is doing this? Do you think Ju Jing’s back?"
Feng Shihan chuckled lightly, how could she come back when he had killed her last night.
"She’s forever gone, but I have an idea who could have done this.."
"...."
"Who?"
"Now, now, you stay here and relax and I’ll take care of everything, I’ll give Ken a call, you go get breakfast.."
Feng Shihan quickly dialed Ken’s number, his fingers tightening around the phone as it rang. After two rings, Ken’s calm voice answered.
"Boss?"
"Ken, we have a critical situation," Shihan said, his voice low and urgent. "Xue Mei’s mother and sister have been kidnapped. And there’s more - they’ve taken Shiyan as well."
There was a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line. "Understood, boss. What do you need?"
"I need you to mobilize every resource we have. Check all our channels - both legal and otherwise. I want names, locations, and motives within the hour. This is our top priority now. I also want to check on Ye Chen Ling for me, that bitch she’s crossed the line."
"Yes, sir," Ken replied, his voice hardening. "I’ll put our best people on it right away."
Feng Shihan’s jaw clenched. "Whoever did this is either incredibly bold or incredibly stupid. Either way, they’ve made a grave mistake and made my wife cry...unacceptable."
"Agreed, boss. We’ll find them."
"One more thing, Ken," Shihan added, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Prepare the team. We might need to take more... direct action."
"Understood. The team will be ready."
As Feng Shihan ended the call, he stood still for a moment, his mind racing. The situation was even more complex and urgent than he had initially thought. It was no longer just about Tang Xue Mei’s family, now it was a direct attack on the Feng family.
He heard a soft knock at the study door. He opened it to find Xue Mei standing there, her face pale with worry.
"Shihan," she said softly, "I couldn’t eat. Please, tell me what’s happening. What are you planning to do?"
Feng Shihan’s expression softened as he looked at his wife. He gently guided her into the study, closing the door behind them.
"Xue Mei, I promise you, I’m doing everything in my power to bring your family home safely. I have people working on finding them as we speak. But I need you to trust me and stay calm. Can you do that for me? I can’t concentrate with expression, don’t cry okay...I’ll find them.."
Tang Xue Mei nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I trust you, Shihan. But I’m scared. What if something happens to them?"
Feng Shihan pulled her into a gentle embrace. "Nothing will happen to them. I won’t allow it. Your family is my family now, and I protect what’s mine. We’ll get through this together, I promise, let’s go get breakfast."
As he held his wife, Shihan’s eyes hardened with cold determination.
Whoever was behind this would soon learn the grave mistake they had made messing with him Feng Shihan.
