Chapter 168: New You
Chapter 168: New You
After a few minutes, Dr. Liu finished the ultrasound and printed out some pictures for Tang Xue Mei to take home. "Here you go," she said, handing her the photos. "A little keepsake for you to cherish."
Tang Xue Mei took the photos, her eyes welling up with tears as she gazed at the images of her babies. "Shihan these are our babies.." she muttered softly as she wiped her tears.
Dr. Liu smiled, patting Tang Xue Mei’s hand reassuringly. "You’re doing great, Tang Xue Mei. Just keep taking care of yourself and those babies, and you’ll be fine."
"Where are we heading to?"
"Can’t head for company, so let’s go pay Qin Mingyue a visit. I wanna check up on these newly weds.."
***************
Ju Jing’s eyes were wild, darting back and forth like a trapped animal as she paced around her apartment. Her skin was slick with sweat, and her pupils were dilated, giving her a desperate, unhinged look. She was muttering to herself, the words tumbling out in a frantic, gibberish jumble.
Her hands were shaking, the fingers flexing into tight fists as she struggled to contain the turmoil brewing inside her.
Her feet seemed to move of their own accord, carrying her around the room in a frenzied, aimless dance.
One moment, she was grasping for the doorhandle, as if she was about to fling herself out, in search of the drug. The next, she was spinning around, her eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape from her own addiction.
"How did this happen? How did I get caught up in all of this..."
Her voice was a low, keening whine, a sound that was both pitiful and terrifying.
She was torn, her mind ripped apart by the conflicting desires to feed her habit and to break free from its grasp.
Ju Jing’s entire body seemed to be vibrating with tension, as if she was a live wire about to short circuit at any moment. Her breath came in short, sharp gasps, and her heart raced like a rabbit’s in her chest.
She stumbled, her legs buckling beneath her as she collapsed onto the couch.
Her apartment was a mess, clothes scattered everywhere, empty takeout containers littering the floor. The air was thick with the stench of stale cigarettes and sweat. Ju Jing didn’t notice, too caught up in her own private hell to care about the state of her surroundings.
"This is all Tang Xue Mei fault, she made me this way.."
She began to pace again, her footsteps quick and jerky as she tried to shake off the feeling of restlessness. Her eyes felt gritty, her skin crawling with the need for the drug.
Ju Jing’s hands began to tremble, her fingers flexing into tight, white-knuckled fists. She felt like she was losing control, like the edges of her universe were beginning to fray.
She started to talk to herself, the words spilling out in a frantic, incoherent stream. "I need it, I need it, I need it..." she muttered.
And then, suddenly, she stopped. Her eyes froze, her body rigid as she stood there, her chest heaving with exhaustion. For a moment, she just stood there, her eyes staring blankly into space.
As the emotions overwhelmed her, Ju Jing’s face crumpled, and she began to sob uncontrollably. Her body shook with the force of her tears, her chest heaving with great, gasping sobs. She stumbled forward, her hands grasping for her hair, and she began to drag her fingers through it, pulling it out in great handfuls.
"No, no, no..." she wailed, her voice hoarse from screaming. "I don’t want to be like this! I don’t want to be trapped!"
Ju Jing’s eyes were red and swollen, her face streaked with tears and mascara. Her hair was tangled and matted, her clothes disheveled and stained. She looked like a woman who had lost all hope, all sense of direction or purpose.
And yet, even as she cried and screamed and pulled her hair out in great clumps, Ju Jing knew that she couldn’t stop.
She couldn’t stop the madness, couldn’t stop the addiction, couldn’t stop the despair. All she could do was ride it out, and hope that somehow, someway, she would emerge on the other side.
"Sweet thing, why did you kill yourself slowly when the person who caused you to be like this lives happily.."
Ju Jing raised her seeing the woman sitting on the couch, she looked at her door, how did she get in?
"Are you saying Tang Xue Mei did this to me?"
The woman didn’t say anything but her silence meant a yes to silence.
Ju Jing eyes lowered as she stared at her hair on the ground.
"That bitch! I’ll kill her.."
The woman smiled as she tossed the petri dish at Ju Jing, who quickly got it and took a sniff.
"Ah.." she sighed happily as she slid down, lying down on the ground. She had reached heaven once again.
"Do you know how you finally take down Tang Xue Mei?"
Ju Jing raised her head, stable enough to think clearly once again.
"How?"
"You sell your soul to me.."
"Since when did you become the devil...haha.."
Ju Jing laughed it off as she stared at the ceiling dazedly.
"You can say that, and I basically control your every moment...you can’t escape me and neither can you do without this drug.."
Ju Jing sneered as she stared at the woman’s face which had a striking resemblance to Tang Xue Mei’s.
She shook her head maybe she was still hallucinating.
"Fine I sell my soul to you, do whatever you like me..I’ll kill myself once Tang Xue Mei’s dead.."
The woman’s blood red lips raised up as she chuckled lowly.
"Then give more this identity, this face, Ju Jing can’t defeat Tang Xue Mei but the new you I’m about to create will.."
Ju Jing gulped wearily she had gone too deep inside the hole and there was no way for her to come out.
