Chapter 151: Guilty pleasures(2)

"It’s okay mum, get some rest I have work to do?"

Su Huiying sighed she had forgotten that they were no longer in the same timezone.

"I’ll call you when I can and please take care of your father for me.."

"I will.."

Su Huiying sighed and ended the call, she continued to stare at the ocean from where she stood before walking back to the room.

"Xue Mei would get everything fixed, months tops and I’ll be back home before I know it.."

Su Huiying sighed before closing her eyes for a good night’s rest.

The next morning she woke up to the sound of Barbara’s knocking.

"Madam, you asked to wake you up 6am sharp so you could get ready for your tour on time.."

Su Huiying took a moment to register that she no longer in her old room and sighed.

"Alright, I’ll be with you in a while.."

Su Huiying took a shower and wore a light blue floral dress which fell below her knees before leaving the room.

"You look stunning madam.."

Barbara complimented as she placed the plate of eggs and sausages on the table.

"Breakfast looks stunning as well Barbara, I can’t wait to try it..."

Barbara smiled genuinely happy that Su Huiying liked her cooking.

"Thank you madam, I’ll continue doing my best..."

"Ai yah! Enough with the "madam" calling, we’ll be spending a lot of time with each other so call me Sister Huiying and I’ll call you Barb.."

Barbara eyes widened and she immediately shook her head, how could she call her employer by her name?!

"But you’re my employer!"

"No my daughter is the one who hired you..haha so you’re free to call me sister Huiying, but you can call my daughter madam since she’s the one who hired you.."

Barbara blinked so it was like that, she smiled and nodded.

"Ill listen to your words sister Huiying.."

"Thank you, Barb.."

At precisely 8:55 AM, the intercom buzzed. "That must be my guide," Su Huiying said to Barbara. "I should be back by late afternoon. Enjoy your free day!"

Downstairs, Su Huiying met her guide, a friendly middle-aged Faroese man named Jóhannes who had drove her from the airport to the house yesterday.

He stood next to a comfortable-looking SUV, well-suited for the island’s varied terrain.

"Good morning, Miss Su.." Jóhannes greeted her with a warm smile. "Ready to explore Tórshavn?"

Su Huiying nodded eagerly, climbing into the passenger seat. As they set off, Jóhannes began to narrate their route.

"We’ll start with a drive through Tinganes, the old town," he explained, navigating through the narrow streets lined with red wooden buildings. "Then we’ll head up to the Svartafoss waterfall for a short walk, before driving to the National Gallery."

Throughout the morning, Su Huiying marveled at the blend of ancient and modern in Tórshavn. They paused at scenic viewpoints for photos, and Jóhannes regaled her with tales of Viking history and Faroese folklore.

After lunch at a charming local café, they continued their tour, visiting the Nordic House cultural center and taking a short drive out of town to see the picturesque village of

As the afternoon wore on, Su Huiying found herself captivated by the raw beauty of the Faroe Islands and the rich culture of its capital. The car tour allowed her to cover much more ground than she could have on foot, while still providing intimate glimpses into their local life.

By the time Jóhannes dropped her back at her condo, Su Huiying’s camera was full of photos and her mind brimming with new knowledge about Torshavn and it’s people.

She thanked her Johannes warmly, already looking forward to reviewing her notes, planning the next day’s adventures and sending the pictures to Tang Xue Mei and Tang Can.

She even had the plan to turn one of her favorite picture into a frame and hang it in her room when she got back home.

Upstairs, she found Barbara preparing dinner. As Su Huiying sank into a comfortable chair, she felt a deep satisfaction. Despite being in her forties, she still felt the same thrill of discovery that had first inspired her to travel in her youth but she couldn’t as she had gotten pregnant and had to stay back to take care of her family.

It also made her sad to think her husband had to be in a coma for her to experience all these things.

Tórshavn, had exceeded her expectations in many years, it was a beautiful place with rich culture .

As the aroma of Barbara’s cooking filled the condo, Su Huiying began to sort through the day’s photographs on her laptop. Each image brought back vivid memories of the tour - the weathered red buildings of Tinganes, the misty veil of Svartafoss waterfall, the bold modern art at the National Gallery.

"Dinner will be ready in about 20 minutes, sister Huiying.." Barbara called from the kitchen.

"Thank you, Barb..though I’ll have to take a shower once I finish sorting out this pictures" Su Huiying replied, her eyes still fixed on the screen. She paused on a particularly striking photo of village, with its ancient stone church standing resilient against the backdrop of the wild Atlantic.

As she waited for dinner, Su Huiying opened her notebook and began to jot down her impressions of the day.

The way the light changed over the fjords, the friendly chatter of locals in the café, the surprising warmth she felt despite the cool climate - all found their way onto the pages of her brown jotter.

Over a dinner of locally sourced fish and vegetables, Su Huiying shared the highlights of her tour with Barbara. "You really must visit if you get the chance," she enthused. "The history there is palpable."

"I have sister Huiying, years ago when my husband was still alive.."

Su Huiying smiled softly and quickly changed the topic.

"You live in a beautiful place Barb, my daughters would be so jealous when they see these pictures.."

Barb laughed, happy the Su Huiying was enjoying her time in her homeland.

After dinner, Su Huiying settled into the living room with a book on Faroese history that Jóhannes had recommended. As she read about the islands’ complex past, from Norse settlements to Danish rule.

Around 10 PM, Su Huiying stepped out onto the condo’s balcony. Despite the late hour, the sky still held a soft, ethereal light - the famous "simmer dim" of northern summers. The town below was quiet, but not entirely still. She could hear distant laughter from a pub and the gentle lapping of waves in the harbor.
