My daily life is not peaceful
Chapter 11 - Food Poisoning

Chapter 11:  Food Poisoning

“This… you didn’t actually make this, did you?”

Luo Yun instantly slid to the other end of the bench, eyeing the lunchbox warily.

“What’s that supposed to mean? I’ll have you know, you’re insulting my character!”

Asagi Aiba glared at him.

But Luo Yun’s reaction wasn’t unwarranted.

Asagi Aiba’s cooking skills were abysmal—so bad that in fifth grade, her baked cake sent fourteen boys in her class straight to the hospital, earning her the title of “mass destruction weapon*.”

Luo Yun had the misfortune of trying her food a few times. If not for the antidote pills kept at Asagi’s house and his decent physical condition, he might not have survived.

Thus, he was left with psychological scars.

“I’m just worried about my life.”

Luo Yun resisted.

“Fine, fine, I didn’t make the lunch. My sister made it and told me to bring it.”

Asagi waved her hand irritably.

She knew her cooking skills well enough, so she couldn’t entirely blame Luo Yun for reacting this way.

A narrow escape.

Luo Yun let out a sigh of relief.

After that, the two shared lunch like the other students.

“Nayue-chan’s cooking is as amazing as ever. These are pretty high-end ingredients, aren’t they?”

Popping a piece of premium wagyu into her mouth, Asagi’s body shivered with delight.

“We’re both girls, but the gap is just too big.”

Luo Yun couldn’t help but sigh. Asagi’s sister was a decent cook, but having been spoiled by Nangong Nayue’s culinary skills, he still found it far inferior to his loli big sister’s.

“What? If you’re not satisfied, go marry my sister! Then trade Nayue-chan to me.”

Asagi spoke while chewing.

“If I said that, I’d probably get beaten to death.”

Luo Yun shook his head.

But he soon sighed again.

“I can’t shake the feeling you only invited me to eat so you could mooch off my food.”

After finishing the wagyu, Asagi gleefully picked up a piece of red lobster with her chopsticks and popped it into her mouth.

Luo Yun’s lunchbox was about twice the size of a typical girl’s, but even so, in less than five minutes, Asagi had devoured nearly a third of it.

Having been to the beach with Asagi before, Luo Yun knew she had a great figure, but she was an absurdly voracious eater, with an appetite almost bigger than his.

“Mmm… @… @¥@… )(

With her mouth stuffed full, Asagi waved her hands, her words completely unintelligible.

Probably a protest, he guessed.

But… why was she suddenly blushing again?

Finally swallowing her food and regaining composure, Asagi said, “Fine, I’ll treat you to a meal next time.”

“Oh, tomorrow’s the weekend. How about I treat you to lunch? Pick a time!”

“Trying to butter me up for no reason?”

Luo Yun shrugged.

“The security department gave me a bonus yesterday—compensation for that food poisoning incident. I’ll come find you tomorrow morning.”

Without waiting for Luo Yun’s agreement, Asagi made the decision herself.

It was a bit forceful, but her “overbearing” behaviour was reserved solely for him.

Sometimes, when Luo Yun asked her to grab a bottle of water, Asagi would demand repayment—like making him treat her to a meal or foisting classroom duties onto him. If Luo Yun didn’t know she was a tsundere*, he’d think it was school bullying.

And Luo Yun wasn’t clueless about emotions; he knew this was her awkward way of showing affection.

It started with him comforting her at the hospital, and things gradually evolved into this dynamic.

But Luo Yun didn’t call her out, just indulging her little “tantrums.”

After the lunch break, the surrounding students quickly packed up and left the classroom.

“Luo Yun-kun… I’m heading out after school today for my part-time job.”

Asagi glanced at her phone, slung her backpack over her shoulder, and looked at Luo Yun.

“And don’t forget I’m treating you to lunch tomorrow, so see you then!”

The girl mimed typing on a keyboard, waved, said “hello,” and hurried out of the classroom.

“Yo, Kojou! Heading home with your sister again today?”

A familiar voice called out nearby.

“What’s your deal? You’re so annoying.”

Another lazy, irritated voice responded.

A boy with slicked-back hair and headphones slung his arm cheerfully around another boy’s shoulders.

Yaze Motoki and Akatsuki Kojou.

As an over-adapter, Yaze Motoki was an ordinary high schooler with the additional task of monitoring the Fourth Primogenitor.

Unlike the original story, however, his surveillance target had shifted to Akatsuki Nagisa instead of Kojou. So, to build rapport with the sister, he started with the brother.

“I’m telling you, if you dare make a move on my sister, I’ll flatten you!”

Kojou threatened.

No longer the Fourth Primogenitor and free from entanglements with the original story’s heroines, Kojou had found a girlfriend in middle school. They’d been together for years now, with a solid relationship.

A protagonist who doesn’t get in the way is a good protagonist.

So Luo Yun felt much more at ease about him.

After all, as a transmigrator, it’d be impossible—impossible in this lifetime—to say he had no interest in the heroines who once graced the screen and now stood before him.

Footnotes

  • mass destruction weapon (dà guī mó shā lù bìng qì): Pinyin: dà guī mó shā lù bìng qì. A humorous exaggeration used in Chinese pop culture to describe something dangerously ineffective or harmful, often in a comedic context. Here, it refers to Asagi’s infamously bad cooking, which once hospitalized fourteen boys, highlighting her catastrophic culinary skills.
  • tsundere (jiāo ào): Pinyin: jiāo ào. A Japanese term adopted into Chinese otaku culture, describing a character who is initially cold, hostile, or “arrogant” (jiāo ào) but gradually reveals a warm, affectionate side. In this context, it describes Asagi’s behaviour toward Luo Yun, where her “overbearing” actions mask her fondness for him.
