Chapter 145: Territorialism

I gather all the files on the computer and send them to the email I already have in my emails while printing out some physical copies to take to Lykaon.

As soon as the papers are printed, I pick them up, taking a last look and seeing that everything is in order, then I leave my office, seeing how this new sector is kind of empty.

’Two semi-humans in the same sector...I don’t think it’s a coincidence’ You don’t have to be a genius to understand that semi-human genes are slowly being eliminated by humanity.

With each generation, semi-humans become more and more human-like, and pure semi-humans are now nonexistent, with a few still maintaining many non-human characteristics.

And now a sector where two semi-humans who would fight have been placed together, as if they were testing and adjusting us to a society that is increasingly human-like.

’This is really ironic’ It’s pure prejudice disguised as something normal, but it’s not like we have a voice to discuss it.

I arrive at Lykaon’s office and see him flirting with a human girl, but without caring about it, I "invade" his space.

’This place stinks...’ It’s not a smell that humans would find unpleasant, in fact I doubt a human would notice anything different, but for semi-humans it’s as if the smell has permeated everywhere.

’Does this guy think this is some kind of kennel to mark the whole room with his scent?’ I arrive without saying a word and throw the papers on the table.

"Here they are," I say coldly as the girl timidly leaves the room after being seen.

"Tsk, couldn’t you have delivered them at another time?"

"I don’t like being here either, but unlike you, I need to work to maintain some privileges, unfortunately men like dogs more than cats," I say sarcastically.

"Yes, after all, dogs are better than cats, cats...they’re so annoying, they don’t like anything, they’re vain and lazy, and they think they’re the best," Lykaon provokes me.

"That’s because we’re better, much better than stupid dogs who can’t follow a standard," This is a fact, dogs can even follow commands more precisely than cats.

However, cats are better at routine and maintaining a specific pattern of what they do in their daily lives, usually being great at constantly repeating the same thing for days, weeks, or years.

"Hahaha, it’s funny to hear that from someone who can get distracted by seeing a moving shiny point," He speaks sarcastically about our problem with sudden focus change.

"..."

"Certainly it’s funny, as funny as dogs that can’t live independently, needing an owner for everything," Wolves and dogs have their differences, but in general they’re similar, so everything about a dog fits the semi-human wolf type like him.

"What a daring little cat we have here, not afraid of being fired?" He goes for the threat, the vein appearing on his forehead, but it’s inevitable, almost an instinct that makes me provoke him.

"I really wouldn’t care much, I’d love to spend more time sleeping at home instead of having to be around a smelly dog like you," The ’me’ of this world wanted to work to have a sense of freedom.

But now that I’m here, I honestly wouldn’t mind being locked up at home if I could just do nothing but plan how to survive and how to become immortal in future worlds.

"Wretched bitch, get out of my office," He growls at me, cursing me.

"I’d love to, but I can’t until you review these papers, or any mistakes will be my fault," If he reviews them in front of me and a mistake happens, he’ll be the one to blame, they may not have cameras in here, but they do out there.

If they see that I took a long time to leave here, that would already serve as my alibi, and they can’t just get rid of the recording to protect him or I can claim incompetence of the company and then they’ll have a problem.

And the point is, although in the end I would be the one who would end up losing, the company obviously wouldn’t want a scandal, so they would quickly try to reach a neutral something as long as I didn’t continue the discussion.

And this is for a very simple reason, discussion and bad reputation generate losses in business and we have rivals who would love to know about such things.

"Then just shut up somewhere there and wait," He says irritably while picking up the papers, I just sit on a table, preferring high places.

"..." We remain silent for a few minutes, I just wait, observing him, our nerves are on edge here, neither I nor him want to be near the other and this is evident in the tension in the air.

"Hey, why is this report here as secondary of all these?" He questions, showing the papers.

"I don’t know, figure it out by asking someone, I’m not the one who makes the papers, it’s your problem and you have to go after it."

"You’re my secretary, shouldn’t you go solve this?" He says, trying to throw the work on me.

"I’m the company’s secretary, providing support to the sector I’m in, in theory I can be your secretary because you’re leading the sector, but in reality I’m not obligated to do anything for you~" I speak with a purr at the end, making him even more irritated.

It’s a fact that these are not my duties, I just provide support in reviewing each thing about their collars and GPS, and anything extra is outside my area, if I do something extra it’s just because I want to, not because someone asked.

Of course, if it were a human asking me, I would have to obey, because semi-humans are infinitely below humans and their orders are "absolute," but Lykaon is a semi-human and is not so far above me in the hierarchy.

"..." He presses a button and soon another employee appears, knocking on the door politely.

People probably fear him for two reasons, first because he’s dangerous and doesn’t have the right collar, which could mean being attacked at any moment, and second because he’s the boss’s pet.

"Take these papers and find out why these things are in the background when they’re as important as the highlighted ones," Lykaon says abruptly and impatiently.

’At least he seems to know what he’s doing’ It would be even worse if he were not only rude but also stupid and didn’t know what he was doing.

"Now can you disappear from here?" He says, looking at me as I curiously fiddle with the real plant in his office, unlike my fake one.

"Not yet, as long as you haven’t confirmed all the papers, it’s still part of my responsibility to supervise, if you hate it so much, why don’t you quit, or better yet, why don’t you give me your position? I bet I’d be better than you," I let myself be carried away by instincts.

I don’t care about this place or the job, but I was here before him and out of pure "Territoriality" I try to make it clear that the place is mine, even if it puts me at some risk.

"You’re too daring, aren’t you? Now this place is also mine and if you don’t be careful with that audacity of yours, you can be sure I’ll make you regret it," He threatens, coming towards me.

"Really? And how would you do that, hm?" I provoke him with equal malice.

"..." Just at that moment, the guy who had come before after being called arrives.

"Rrgghh" Lykaon growls at me, but ignores me, going to the door and talking to the man who, from the badge, I see is an administrative assistant, the conversation is quite brief and Lykaon goes to his chair.

"It’s all approved, now get out of here before I throw you out by force," He speaks in a harsh tone.

"Sure, sure, now I can go, don’t get too stressed, puppy, stress is bad for you," I speak sarcastically, heading to the door.

"And stop spreading your scent around, it irritates me," I don’t want to pick fights, but I can’t help it when I feel his scent all over the place, because just him spreading his scent means that he arrogantly said that this whole space is his "territory" when he is just an invader.

"..." I leave the office without caring about his response, I just hope I don’t have to feel his scent again so soon, my next job will take a while and I don’t need to show it to him, so I think we won’t have any more bickering.

...

...

...

"And stop spreading your scent around, it irritates me," I hear the secretary speaking to me arrogantly and leaving before I can respond.

"Damn cat woman," I mutter irritably at this, cats are so stressful, she sat on the table and watched me from above as if I were some kind of inferior.

And she talks about me spreading my scent as if her scent isn’t all over the building, the place practically smells of her and yet she comes to complain to me about my scent.

She’s very daring, it’s the first time I’ve seen such a daring semi-human when it comes to me, usually the semi-humans of domestic animals fear and avoid the predator type.

Even other cats ended up avoiding me because I’m a gray wolf, of course we also have to take into account that I’m a pack animal and she’s a solitary animal, and that changes the dynamics.

But even if I’m alone, I’m still a wolf and she’s a cat, it’s even kind of fun to see how impulsive she is with her instincts, it reminds me of a puppy who hasn’t quite learned to control itself yet.

And that’s interesting, in fact it makes me even more interested in her, I’ve been with many girls, whether human or semi-human, but most have lost the natural charm our race had.

As I should say...they became too "human" and lost the charm that semi-humans should naturally have, but it seems that biologically Shizune still maintains these more animalistic traits like me.

"I love a feisty woman, they’re the best in bed...maybe I should go after her someday?" I murmur, letting my instincts speak louder, I like a good challenge.
