Chapter 144: Wolf

"Nyaa" I wake up out of nowhere with the alarm clock next to me making a sound and suddenly waking me up.

’Ah yes...I slept in the car’ My position in the bed is slightly uncomfortable, I know I was placed in a good position, but now I’m all twisted in the bed, I quickly get up and go to the bathroom.

The first thing I feel is the smell of breakfast, so it must be 5:50 in the morning already since Arthur hasn’t called me yet. In the bathroom, I just brush my teeth, wash my face, tidy up my messy hair, and put on a light perfume.

Strong scents bother me, so the perfume has only a light floral aroma, nothing too overpowering.

I put on my office suit and go to the kitchen where I find Arthur finishing cooking.

"Good morning, master" I say to him, enjoying the pleasant smell.

"Good morning, did you sleep well?" He asks me as he places a hamburger he just fried on a plate with eggs, bacon, toast, and cheese bread.

"Yes, I slept very well" I haven’t been here for long, but so far I have nothing to complain about, life is great.

’Hamburger...’ The meat is fish, it’s not bad, but I was expecting beef because I ate a lot of fish yesterday.

We both start eating breakfast slowly, and it’s now that I notice the little problem I have.

’I’ll have to work...without being sure what to do...’ I do have some memories of my duties, but having memories doesn’t mean knowing how to do them perfectly, I’ll have to figure it out somehow.

"The breakfast is great, master..." I compliment the food, which is really good, putting a smile on Arthur’s face. I think little things like these helped me live a little more.

"It’s a shame you’re going to change departments" He starts a conversation about work.

"Y-Yes..." If I didn’t know what to do before, it’s even worse now, but I’ll use what I know to make it work somehow, even though I’m changing departments, my duties should remain pretty much the same.

He sees that I’m not very interested in this, so he falls silent, and after we finish eating, we go to the car, ready to arrive at work on time without delays.

He drives the car while I just observe the outside, humans and semi-humans strolling the streets or going to work. In moments like these, I really wonder what love truly is.

Ironically, this whole situation happened to me because I didn’t know what love is and didn’t value it. If I had valued the love I had, none of this would have happened.

And even being in different worlds with people who love me with and without reason, I still can’t understand.

"You seem pensive, why, Shizune?" Arthur asks me as he drives and makes a turn.

"Just thinking about how ’lucky’ I am to have someone loving me" I say a little sarcastically, maybe more than I’d like, but it’s a truly bitter irony.

"I understand, well, know that I will always love you just the way you are" He says as he parks in front of a building.

"Yes...always will love me..." I murmur, not liking it much. I know he will always love me, and that’s exactly the problem I have, which is a bad thing for me in every way.

As soon as he parks the car, I get out without much real enthusiasm, thinking about love has left me depressed, as it is the biggest cause of my problems.

’I wish I could love someone as madly as they love me, so I could understand what the feeling is like’ I just think about that. It would be good, I’d like to have that crazy love that everyone has, because then I would know how it feels and how to deal with it.

Arthur and I just enter the company, and each of us goes our separate ways. He goes up to the second-to-last floor, while I go to the 20th floor of the 59-story building with a penthouse.

"Good morning, Shizune" Another office worker greets me with a smile without taking her eyes off the computer.

"Good morning..." I just respond with a good morning as I go to the place I now know is where I work, arriving at a new room. The room is larger than the one I had before, with a desk, computer, and even some plastic plants decorating the place.

"So you’re my secretary?" I hear a voice that makes me look back and see the semi-human who is the "pet" of the company’s owner.

"Yes, that’s me" I say, staring at him.

’Great...’ He is a tall man, being a gray wolf semi-human, a predator type, which means that if he has an outburst here and attacks someone, killing the person would be easy for him.

And as a semi-human of the company’s owner, depending on how much favoritism he has, nothing will happen to him, so if I, a semi-human, am attacked by him, nothing will happen to him.

I know that only a Yandere can kill me, but I don’t think it’s good to get hurt.

’He has a normal collar...’ Predator type semi-humans need a special collar, but this guy only has a normal one with a tracker, which means he has high favoritism from his owner.

"I’m Lykaon, pleased to meet you, miss assistant" He speaks with some sarcasm in his voice, his black eyes staring at me and evaluating me.

"If you attack me, I’ll retaliate" I make it clear to him. It’s not uncommon for semi-humans to attack others, it’s something genetic and uncontrollable, especially for certain types of semi-humans.

"Oh? You have courage"

"I can show you that I have a lot more than just courage" I try to speak in the most threatening way I can.

’Damn, I’m letting my instincts control me’ Cats and dogs don’t get along very well, and this ends up fitting perfectly with semi-humans. He, as a wolf, doesn’t give me good vibes.

"Hahahaha" He laughs, as if what I said was a funny joke, not taking me seriously.

"So the little cat has claws? That’s funny, you know, it’s been a while since I’ve met another semi-human as entertaining as you, don’t worry, I won’t bite you, little cat" He speaks as if he has absolute confidence in beating me.

And in a way, he would be right. If I still didn’t know how to fight, he could be stronger, faster, and more resistant, but now I have fighting techniques, and if necessary, I’ll use them.

"Just don’t bother me, I hate dogs that stink like they’ve been in the rain for days" I say arrogantly, even though I don’t want to start a fight, I can’t help it.

Instincts are stronger than me, and his scent is really unpleasant. Why did he douse himself in perfume like that?

"...Great..." He speaks irritated while growling slightly. I seem to have touched on something personal. He leaves the room with heavy steps, making other people move away from him to let him pass.

’What was the administration thinking in leaving him and me together? Are they idiots?’ Our company works with semi-humans and collar technology, so everyone here is aware of what not to do.

And yet they placed two semi-humans who obviously don’t get along near each other, practically asking for a fight to happen.

Especially because this bastard came in already trying to mark the entire area as if it were his territory alone. The company’s rules say that different types of semi-humans need to be kept apart to avoid trouble.

And yet me and this guy were placed in the same sector, and I’m even his secretary. Favoritism is really annoying when it only benefits the other side.

I just sit at my desk, bothered by all this, while I turn on the computer and search my memories to know what I should do.

According to my memories, I should review general reports on the operation of the collars and GPS in each one, and ensure that there are no failures.

If any of the collars have an error, I will be held responsible if I let it pass. As soon as I open the computer, I see spreadsheets and papers with important things highlighted in blue to catch my attention.

And the secondary, but still important things, have shades of green that are also eye-catching for my vision, which helps me keep my focus on the screen. My office also has excellent sound insulation.

As well as the windows being extremely frosted and almost completely opaque, all of this to inhibit my feline instincts from distracting my focus, since this is important.

"It’s not that hard..." The colors make it clear what I should focus on, and I already find 3 papers with flawed reviews and project failures. I also use knowledge from my first life and business knowledge to review the plans.

"Failure...failure...failure...failure...failure...failure..." With each failure, I murmur to maintain focus. What is correct, I ignore, and what has a failure, I murmur and then move on to another area.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the authority to fix the problems, I can only find them, review them, and then pass them on to a superior, which in this case will be Lykaon, who is now my department head, and so he’ll get the credit for all my work.

’This is so boring’ It’s a relatively simple job in a way, but it requires extreme attention to detail, design, and errors. Any mistake can get me in trouble.

Especially if my boss notices that I made a mistake before something actually goes wrong, and any complaints I receive will go straight to Arthur.

I just keep working with maximum focus. In 1 hour, I’ll have to deliver the results to Lykaon.
