Chapter 109: Demonic Sect

Yeom took me to the cafeteria where there are several members of the sect eating, chit-chatting, or just having silly conversations, showing that although everyone here is bad, they still know how to be nice to each other.

This is kind of soothing because it clearly shows that I won’t have any trouble with anyone since, in general, everyone is still quite united, even if they don’t mind killing people, they don’t normally fight among themselves.

Of course, maybe it’s just like this because Yeom is very strict about it, Yeom made it clear that only she can hit or kill anyone in the sect, but others can’t do the same.

I sit at one of the cafeteria tables while Yeom herself goes to the kitchen to make something for me to eat, she usually makes my food, but we normally eat alone and it’s rare to come to the cafeteria.

Especially now that it’s everyone’s rest time and that makes the cafeteria full of people eating or chatting with each other about their daily lives and the progress of the training.

Of course, many members of the sect seem surprised to see Yeom cooking as if it’s a rare and even funny sight to watch, a possible contrast to the normal violence she exudes.

Soon Yeom comes carrying a plate of dumplings, she seems to be feeling generous today so along with the plate of dumplings for me, she brings a huge plate with a stack of dumplings and places it on the table in the center for anyone who wants to eat.

She comes up to me with the plate while I watch the other members of the sect grabbing the dumplings and biting, some practically spit them out right after tasting them, making me uncertain.

"Yeom, are you sure about this?" I question while Yeom places a plate of dumplings of some kind of meat-filled dough, the appearance and smell are wonderful.

But I saw the other members of the sect eating this and spitting it out right after, it seems that everyone hates it, so the appearance is very deceiving and maybe the taste is terrible.

"Just try it, Shizune! It’s perfect as always, everything I cook is delicious, don’t listen to those rude idiots wasting food," Yeom says while holding one of the dumplings and handing it to me, I just hope I don’t suffer too much eating this.

"Hmm...hmm, T-This is really wonderful!" I say while grabbing another one, they are delicious, I don’t understand why everyone throws them away.

"Shizune-sama, you’re the only one who likes this horrible thing," says the same girl who appeared in my room before, putting the dumpling back on the plate after a bite.

"Really, why do you think it’s bad?" I really don’t understand, it seems just like a common food, a bit oily, but that’s relatively natural in the modern world, everything has plenty of oil, perhaps that’s why it seems even more delicious since it reminds of modernity.

"The flavor is too strong, there’s too much seasoning in the meat and dough, the smell is extremely unpleasant and showy as if the food wants to draw attention, and it’s also too oily among other things."

’It seems that no one is afraid to be honest and complain, and Yeom also doesn’t seem to care about the complaints about the food...’ She even seemed to expect them to complain even though it was delicious.

’...’ It’s just a fried dough and meat dumpling with some common vegetables like onion, cilantro, etc. I don’t understand how this has a lot of seasoning, and the smell of the meat is nice to smell.

’Strange people’ To me it seems perfect and just right, Yeom also tries and eats it without any problem, so everyone seems strange for thinking a delicious food like this is bad.

"Yeom, don’t you like this either?" I ask to see her response to the gratuitous hatred the food is receiving without reason, I’m curious about her answer.

"I kind of like it, it’s not bad, but everyone here isn’t used to this kind of food, so they end up thinking it’s bad because it interferes with some aspects related to the purity of the training."

"So it’s not that it’s bad, it’s just that they’re not used to eating something so strong and oily," Yeom says while taking another bite of the dumpling.

’So it has to do with the food, it must be something about dirtying the Qi operation or something similar that I haven’t studied yet.’ Learning to cultivate might be a good idea, but I still have to look into that.

"Yeom, how did you found the demonic sect? I’ve never heard this story." It might be interesting to hear this, I grab another dumpling and wait, the topic seems to have caught the attention of the others as well, who start paying attention.

"Well...I guess it started about 159 years ago," she says nostalgically.

’She’s older than I expected’ I just think about this, but I don’t interrupt her story.

"I had a lot of problems with the ridiculous rules of the sects I found, they all had such stupid and inconvenient restrictions, in my view, cultivation aims to achieve a new state of ascension, possibly reaching immortality." This part interests me about becoming immortal.

"But how will mortals ascend if they are limited by ridiculous rules among other things? If others can’t achieve results, then it’s just their own fault and incompetence." She speaks coldly and with disdain.

"We shouldn’t be limited by the fault of those who don’t have the talent to truly try to ascend to something greater, and given this ideology of mine, other cultivators didn’t like it." Which makes perfect sense since it kind of leaves almost everyone behind.

"To them, I’m arrogant, unpretentious, proud, and even crazy to think of something like that since I’m belittling those with less talent, but it’s precisely because they cling to the talentless that no one has ascended in the last 10,000 years."

"And with this divergence of opinions, we ended up fighting, which increased in scale until it became a personal fight where one constantly attacked the other’s opinion."

Which is totally logical, given that divergent opinions generate fights depending on the context and end up becoming something heavy later on.

"And when talking didn’t work anymore, we turned to violence, thus evolving the conflict that began with a simple divergence of ideas, but unfortunately my opinion was weaker."

"Because there was only me to support it, while the opinion of the other sects had the support of disciples and masters on a large scale, since my opinion had little value on its own."

"I went to prove that my point is correct, I trained a lot until I became stronger than any of them, reaching this strength alone, and after that I went in search of people who could share my opinion." She speaks with an arrogant little smile.

It even seems like she’s bragging to everyone here that she achieved all her strength alone and without help or support from anyone else just to prove her point about strength.

"And so I found this bunch of misfits that you see today, many of them didn’t have the opportunity to join a sect because of the type of ability they have, even though they have talent."

"Which is another ridiculous thing, in my view, a technique that helps you should be used and not rejected just because it doesn’t fit the stupid standards that some sects preach." The disdain in this speech was chilling.

"So these misfits here ended up finding me by destiny and seeing that my ideology would help them grow to new levels, and in less than 100 years my sect has become one of the largest, rivaling the largest orthodox sect in the world."

"Which just shows what I said, talent is what really matters, and clinging to the weak only leaves everyone else stagnant, at the pace my sect is getting stronger, in the next millennium someone could ascend to a new level like me."

"And maybe I’ll ascend to immortality! Becoming the unattainable top that will put all these sects in their rightful place, which is beneath my feet."

"Of course, the orthodox sects and others don’t like our methods, which makes them our biggest enemies of all."

"But to me, they’re just jealous! Because I proved that I was right and the disciples and masters I found and chose based on talent are evolving by being brought together with other talented people." Yeom speaks arrogantly.

’...’

"But Yeom, and me? I don’t have the talent to cultivate, why did you choose me?" Even though I can cultivate, it’s a fact that I don’t have great talent, I think I’m average, so I would be an average cultivator if I trained properly.

"Well, you’re smart! Mere power isn’t enough! We need brains among the muscles, and you’re the brain of this sect, aren’t you, folks?" Yeom says to the various people at the cafeteria tables.

"YESSS!!!" They all shout yes excitedly, although they don’t know that this is false, since Yeom is the one who makes the strategies, I think that for every 10 strategies, one is made by me, which shows how she deceives everyone to keep me around.

This really makes me curious, why did she choose someone with no talent at all? I bet when she first saw me, she knew I didn’t have the great talent that everyone here has.

"So Shizune, what do you think of my story?" Yeom asks while eating a dumpling.

"It’s interesting." It’s really interesting, it shows well how opinions generate divisions between what one believes and what the other thinks.
