My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 93: Half Sibling
Chapter 93: Half Sibling
Regina’s eyes narrowed, her glare sharp and cutting as she surveyed the crowd gathered in front of the main entrance. "Do you want me to sue you all for disturbing my peace?" Her voice was low, but laced with undeniable authority.
She turned her gaze around, her annoyance growing with every second. "Where is all the security?! What is your salary for?!"
The crowd fell silent, some reporters visibly shrinking under Regina’s piercing gaze, while security scrambled to regain control.
"And you..." Regina’s eyes locked onto Eloise with icy precision. "Who do you think you are, speaking about my daughter-in-law?" She stepped forward, her presence commanding attention. "You were never even in her league. I chose her for my son, and you, since when did Eryx ever say he was going to get engaged to someone like you? A woman of your... caliber?"
Regina’s gaze never wavered, her posture straight and unyielding, as Eloise tried to regain some semblance of composure.
"I— I," Eloise stammered, stepping back instinctively. "Well, Mr. Grantham did meet my father and expressed his interest in me," she said, lifting her chin, attempting to restore her confidence. "I was just stating the facts."
Regina let out a soft, almost mocking laugh, her gaze never wavering from Eloise’s face. "The facts?" she repeated, her voice oozing with sarcasm. "Is that what you call these pathetic lies of yours?"
Eloise tried to respond, but Regina’s icy stare silenced her. Turning sharply, she spoke with deadly calm, her voice like a whip. "You’d better clean up this mess, or I will personally have every single one of you thrown into jail. The same place..." She paused, letting the silence stretch, before glaring at Eloise, "Eryx had your father sent to. Do you want to join him?"
Eloise stumbled back, her finger trembling as she pointed at Regina. "Do you hear that?!" she shouted. "The Granthams did this! My father is innocent! He did nothing wrong, but just because they have power, they sent someone like my father to jail!"
Regina remained unmoved, her expression cold and calculating. "You’d better watch your words," she warned, her voice low and dangerous. "Your father’s actions aren’t as innocent as you make them sound. If you keep this up, you’ll find yourself in an even worse situation than he ever was."
Eloise’s face flushed with anger, but she remained on her place. The reporters, sensing the tension, held their breath, unsure whether to speak or wait for the storm to pass.
Clenching her fists, Eloise’s frustration boiling over. She turned around, thinking of a way to make Lunara come out but then when her eyes scanned wildly, they landed on a faint figure near the mansion.
"There she is!" she shouted, jabbing her finger toward the estate. "Lunara! Come out if you dare and face me!"
The crowd’s attention shifted instantly, cameras swiveling, voices rising with renewed energy.
Lunara stiffened behind the tall decorative plants near the entrance. She hadn’t realized she’d stepped far enough into view. Dressed in just a T-shirt, the last thing she wanted was to be caught in the media storm like this.
Quickly, she crouched down behind the greenery, lowering her face out of sight. Her heart thudded in her chest as the noise outside grew louder.
Regina, who had been scanning the crowd with razor-sharp awareness, sensed the urgency when the reporters shifted their cameras, lenses adjusting toward the mansion.
Her eyes darted toward the greenery by the entrance and, in an instant, she understood.
Without a trace of panic, she stepped forward, positioning herself directly in their line of sight. Her voice rang out, sharp and commanding.
"Turn those cameras back where they belong," she said. "Unless you’re ready to be sued for invading private property."
She gave a sharp glance to the head of security nearby. "Move the reporters back. Now."
Behind the plants, Lunara remained crouched, her breath shallow. Regina didn’t look back, but then, the security team stepped in, trying to push the reporters back and clear the front area. Voices rose, questions flew, and flashes kept firing but in the middle of that, Eloise saw her chance.
With everyone distracted, she shoved past one of the guards and made a dash forward.
"Madam, step back!" one of the guards warned, but Eloise didn’t stop.
Regina turned at the commotion just in time to see Eloise storming forward. "Stop her—" she began, but Eloise roughly pushed her aside, causing Regina to stumble.
"Madam!" one of the security shouted out from behind, rushing toward her.
Regina fell back a step, heels catching uneven ground, and hit the pavement with a sharp gasp. The cameras immediately turned to her, capturing every second of the fall. Security scrambled again, this time chasing after Eloise, who was now running straight toward the mansion doors.
From behind the plants, Lunara heard the sudden commotion, the sharp gasp, the thud, and the panicked shouts that followed, tightening the anxiety in her chest.
Her heart dropped.
Without thinking, she stood up and looked toward the crowd. When she saw Regina on the ground, clutching her wrist in pain, everything else faded.
"No! What are you doing?!" she cried out, rushing toward her.
She dropped to her knees beside Regina, panic rising in her voice. "Are you okay? Where does it hurt?"
Regina’s face was pale, her jaw clenched. "I think it’s my wrist," she muttered through gritted teeth.
In that instant, the crowd froze.
No one had expected someone to appear, let alone rush out like that. For a heartbeat, there was stunned silence, and when they finally realised who she was, came the clicks. One after another, reporters snapped out of their daze and raised their cameras, the shutters firing in rapid bursts as they captured her vulnerable moment in the center of chaos.
Lunara didn’t care about anything anymore, but Regina frowned. "Cover your face, or Eryx might be furious with me." She pulled Lunara toward her with her uninjured hand and then looked at one of the security guards. "Cover your young madam now!"
"No, no, I’m fine! We need to go to the hospital." Lunara turned around, her face filled with anxiety. Her eyes landed on Eloise’s smug expression, and fury ignited within her. Standing up, she marched slowly toward Eloise. "I’ve held myself back because you’re two years older than me, but you’ve really crossed the line."
Eloise sneered, her voice dripping with contempt. "What line? Your line?" She whispered, then shoved her finger into Lunara’s chest, poking her sneakily.
Lunara’s voice was calm, but her eyes burned with anger. "You keep acting like I stole something from you, Eloise." She leaned closer as she whispered, "But maybe the truth is..." Lunara’s lips curved into a cold smile, her voice low but lethal, "you and your mother were just the warm-up act. Convenient until something better comes along."
She took a slow step closer, eyes locked on Eloise’s. "Your mother couldn’t even keep the man who gave her a child. And you? You’re so desperate for affection, you throw yourself at any man who breathes near you, even if he never even acknowledged you."
Eloise’s smugness twisted into rage. "You—"
"You hate me for being born, don’t you?" Lunara added softly, yet piercingly. "But I never took anything from you. You just never had it to begin with."
That was the final blow.
Without thinking, Eloise raised her hand, fury flashing in her eyes.
But before she could touch Lunara, someone caught her wrist in midair.
A sudden, sharp silence fell.
