My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 92: The Peace Ended
Chapter 92: The Peace Ended
A gentle kiss landed on Lunara’s forehead. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Eryx’s face, just a few inches away.
"Morning..." he said with a soft smile.
"Morning," she replied sleepily.
He brushed a few strands of hair away from her face. "Go back to sleep for a bit. I’m heading to work now." He paused, looking at her like he didn’t really want to leave. "And don’t go out today, okay? If you need anything, just tell me. I’ll get it for you. Just stay in until things calm down."
Lunara gave him a small smile and nodded. "Okay."
Eryx leaned down and kissed her forehead again. "I’ll be back soon," he said, then quietly left the room.
She lay there for a while, listening to the silence. It was peaceful, but her mind kept drifting back to everything that had happened lately. Eventually, she got up and walked to the next room to check on Mila. It had become part of her daily routine now, ever since the incident last week.
For the past few days, she had stayed home, not stepping outside even once. Eryx had been extra cautious, always reminding her to stay in for her own safety. And she listened, partly because she understood, and partly because a part of her just didn’t feel ready to face the outside world yet.
Mila was already awake, sitting in bed with her stuffed rabbit, talking to it in a soft voice. When she saw Lunara at the door, her face lit up.
"Mommy!" she called out, stretching her arms.
"Did you sleep well?" Lunara smiled, walking over to scoop her up. She fixed her messy hair.
Mila replied with giggles as she rested on her shoulders.
"Then...shall we go and get you cleaned up, hmm?" she said gently. "Then we’ll see what to eat."
She carried Mila to the bathroom, moving quietly through the quiet house. The morning felt calm, almost too calm, but she tried not to overthink it. Just one peaceful day, that was all she hoped for.
Lunara had just finished dressing Mila and was about to head downstairs for breakfast. She was carrying the little girl on her hip, humming softly as she walked down the hallway.
But as she reached the stairs, one of the maids came rushing toward her, looking flustered.
"Miss Lunara!" she called out, her voice urgent.
Lunara paused, instinctively tightening her hold on Mila. "What is it?"
The maid glanced toward the front entrance, then leaned in closer. "There’s someone making a scene outside the main gate. The press has already gathered, and it’s getting crowded. They’re interviewing her."
Lunara frowned. "Who is it?"
The maid hesitated, then said quietly, "A woman. She claims to be your sister."
Sighing, Lunara hadn’t expected the peace to end this quickly. "Did you inform Eryx?"
The maid quickly shook her head. "Not yet, Miss— I mean, young madam." She looked flustered, still getting used to calling Lunara by her new title.
Lunara smiled gently. "Just call me whatever you’re comfortable with." She shifted Mila in her arms, then continued, "Please call Eryx and tell him what’s going on. I’ll go outside and see what’s really happening."
"But... sir told me not to let you leave the house," the maid said nervously.
Lunara stayed quiet for a moment, her eyes distant in thought. Then she gently passed Mila to the maid.
"I won’t go far," she said. "Just going to take a look. Don’t worry."
The maid hesitated. "Young madam, please be careful..."
"I will," Lunara promised with a small smile, brushing Mila’s hair back one last time before turning away.
She stepped out of the house, walking briskly through the front garden and down the long path that led to the main gate. The morning air was crisp, but her chest felt tight with unease.
As she got closer, the sounds grew louder, camera shutters clicking, voices talking over one another, and questions being thrown toward someone she couldn’t see yet.
Lunara finally reached a spot where she could see through the gates, and her steps came to a sudden stop.
There she was, Eloise, standing in the middle of the crowd, surrounded by flashing cameras and microphones, ready to capture every lie she was about to spit.
"I don’t know what happened to her," Eloise said dramatically. "She changed! One day she just announced she was getting married... and to the man who was supposed to be engaged to me!"
Lunara’s eyes widened, her gaze sharpening as she listened to the lies pouring from Eloise’s mouth.
Lunara let out a disbelieving chuckle. "What?" She shook her head, her voice tinged with sarcasm. "Is that what she’s saying now?"
Her eyes narrowed as she watched Eloise continue her rant, her words becoming even more twisted with every sentence. The lies were so ridiculous, Lunara couldn’t help but feel angry and frustrated.
"She really is something, isn’t she?" Lunara muttered under her breath, more to herself than anyone else.
Lunara’s breath caught as she heard Eloise’s next words. "Even her mother is in a coma in the hospital because of her! She borrowed money from a loan shark, and her mother collapsed from the shock!" Eloise’s voice rang in Lunara’s ears.
Lunara’s fists clenched at her sides, Eloise had really crossed the line.
A reporter, eager for more details, stepped forward, microphone in hand. "Is this true? Is your mother really in a coma?"
Eloise shook her hands quickly. "Of course not," she snapped, her eyes flashing with fake sincerity. "My mother isn’t the one in trouble. It’s her mother. I’m the one who had to clean up the mess. You see, we’re only half-sisters," she added with a twisted smile, as if that somehow justified the lies. "But I love her, even though we have different mothers."
Her jaw tightened, frustration boiling inside her. She needed to stop the lies. Striding forward, she was determined to slap Eloise across the face when suddenly a voice echoed through the main entrance, "What are you doing here?!"
