My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 91: A Rare Stillness

Chapter 91: A Rare Stillness

The sound of a spoon clinking against the side of a glass bowl echoed in the quiet kitchen as Lunara stirred the eggs, lost in her own thoughts.

"Is it true?"

The sudden voice behind her made her jump. Her hand jerked, knocking the bowl off the edge of the counter. It hit the floor with a loud crash, eggs splattering everywhere.

Lunara’s eyes widened as she turned around, her heart still racing from the sudden scare.

Naomi stood there, wide-eyed, guilt written all over her face. "Wait... sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you! I just—" she stepped closer, lowering her voice, "I saw the news yesterday. They’re saying you’re pregnant. Is it true?"

"Pregnant?" A crease formed between Lunara’s brows before she let out a small sigh. "I’m not." She rolled her eyes as she crouched down, beginning to pick up the broken pieces of the bowl.

"Auntie!" Naomi suddenly called out to the maid nearby, "Can you help clean this up?"

Then she gently pulled Lunara to her feet. "And you should’ve just asked the maid to do it in the first place. Were you seriously craving scrambled eggs or something?"

Lunara gave her a sheepish smile. "I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d cook a little."

Naomi gave Lunara another judging look. "And why couldn’t you sleep...?"

"No! I’m not pregnant," Lunara chuckled. "How could I get pregnant that fast?"

"Wait..." Naomi narrowed her eyes, then a teasing smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "So there is hope?"

Lunara stared at her, flustered. "Naomi!"

Naomi wiggled her brows. "I mean, you didn’t say no to the idea. Just ’not yet,’ right?"

Lunara let out a groan and rolled her eyes, trying to hide her embarrassment. "Stop it."

Naomi smiled. "I’m just happy if you’re happy, Ara." She gazed at her friend for a moment, then let out a weak sigh. "I know things suddenly became a mess, but I hope you can trust Eryx with this."

Lunara nodded quietly, her eyes softening.

"But," Naomi continued, her tone shifting to something more cautious, "please be careful, okay? Especially with people who suddenly show up in your life."

Lunara tilted her head. "What do you mean?"

"In our circle," Naomi said, lowering her voice a little, "most people have their own motives. Everyone wants something like power, influence, secrets... you know. Sometimes they’re nice to you just to get closer to something else."

Lunara’s brows drew together in concern.

"I’m not trying to scare you," Naomi added gently, "just... watch your back. Not everyone who smiles at you means it."

Lunara nodded in understanding, Naomi’s warning settling quietly in her chest. She glanced around the kitchen, then hesitated for a moment before asking,

"How about your mom? Is she okay?"

Naomi blinked, then smiled softly. "You know... you really should stop calling her my mom."

Lunara looked at her, a little confused.

Naomi gently nudged her with her elbow. "You’re part of this family already. She’d be happy if you called her ’Mom’ too."

Lunara’s lips parted slightly, caught off guard by the warmth in Naomi’s words. Something about hearing that so casually made her chest tighten a little.

"I... okay," she said softly. "I’ll try."

Naomi glanced at the kitchen clock. "By the way, where’s Eryx?"

Lunara’s face lit up with a soft smile. "He’s in the garden. He’s playing with Mila. Since it’s Sunday, we thought we’d just stay home and take it easy after... everything that happened yesterday."

Naomi’s eyes softened. "That sounds like a good idea. You both need it."

Later, the gentle warmth of the morning sun bathed the garden. Lunara carefully carried out a tray with toast and scrambled eggs, the simple aroma bringing a cozy comfort to the quiet day.

She spotted Eryx near the table, standing with his phone pressed to his ear, his brow furrowed in focus. Mila was a few steps away, chasing a butterfly with unsteady toddler steps and carefree laughter.

Lunara set the tray down and slowly walked toward Mila, scooping her into her arms with a soft giggle. "Careful, Mila," she whispered.

Just then, Eryx’s voice carried over, low and serious. "I’ve been planning this for a while. The shares are shifting, and if I move now, we’ll have enough leverage to pull Matilda out of the board entirely—"

Lunara paused, glancing toward him. She didn’t quite understand all of it, but something about the way he spoke made her heart tense. Perhaps he was trying to start a movement against Matilda, and she totally didn’t understand a thing.

"I understand. But for how long?" Eryx’s voice grew more tense. "I don’t think we should wait any longer."

He turned away from the table, one hand in his pocket, the other holding the phone tighter. His jaw clenched as he listened, then added, "If we hesitate now, she’ll get ahead of us again."

Lunara kept her distance, gently rocking Mila in her arms, trying not to disturb him. Hearing Eryx’s cold and low voice was enough to give chills to her body.

Just then, Mila let out a high-pitched giggle and reached for a flower petal floating through the air. The sound broke the tension like a pin to a balloon.

Eryx turned, eyes softening instantly when he saw them. "I’ll call you back," he said into the phone, hanging up without waiting for a reply.

"When did you get here?" he asked, walking over to them. Then his gaze shifted to the toast on the table. "Let’s eat."

Eryx reached for Lunara’s hand as they sat down at the table, a quiet sense of peace settling between them. They ate together, the warm sunlight filtering through the leaves above, and the sound of Mila’s laughter filling the air. There was a rare stillness, a moment that felt right in the middle of everything.

But back inside the house, on the balcony above, Regina sat by herself, smiling softly as she gazed out at the garden.

However, her moment of happiness faltered when her phone suddenly rang. Glancing at the name flashing on the screen, her eyes narrowed slightly, and the warmth in her expression was replaced with quiet tension. The call continued to ring, and for a moment, she simply stared at it, hesitating.
