My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 53: I’ll Leave

Chapter 53: I’ll Leave

The whole room fell into silence but then Lunara scoffed, "You suddenly appeared before me, trying to act like a husband, disgusts me! Completely! You think just because you are rich I would be welcoming you with open arms?"

Eryx’s jaw tightened, his eyes darkening. "That’s not what I—"

"Oh, please," Lunara cut him off, crossing her arms. "Let me make it clear to you, Mr. Eryx Cyrus Grantham... I don’t need you now." She stood up, her voice sharp. "I survived that hell for two years with no one by my side. So why do you think I suddenly need you now?"

Eryx grabbed her arm gently. "I’m sorry. I really am." That was all he could say, all he could offer.

Lunara let out a bitter laugh. "Sorry? That’s all you have? You think that fixes everything?" Her voice cracked slightly, betraying the emotion she refused to show.

Eryx grip tightening just a little before he loosened it again. He didn’t know what else to do. Seeing her like this, furious, hurt, trembling, it twisted something deep inside him.

"We can work it out now. I know I can’t erase the past two years, but I’ll try my best to make it right."

"I begged!" Lunara’s voice cracked as she stepped back. "Why now?! You didn’t care about me before! Did something suddenly click in your brain when we met again? And now you feel obligated to take care of me?"

Her eyes burned, and before she could stop them, tears spilled down her cheeks.

"You don’t get it, do you? The question I’ve been asking you since you realized I’m—" she punched her chest, "—your wife."

"I understand, it’s just—"

"Just what? You don’t even have an answer, do you?" She nodded to herself, pressing her lips into a thin line. "I survived my damn teenage years alone. Then, when I was twenty-one, you suddenly appeared and offered marriage. At that time—" she paused, closing her eyes, trying to hold back her tears, but they kept falling. "At that time, I had this tiny, little hope that maybe, just maybe, I’d finally have someone. Someone I could rely on for anything."

Lunara let out a hollow laugh, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. "Do you know how pathetic I was?" She shook her head.

"I knew what our marriage was. I knew it wasn’t real. But when my mother needed emergency surgery, when I was scraping by just to keep her alive, I still—I don’t know." She exhaled sharply, her voice shaking. "Maybe I was stupid. Maybe I thought, for just one second, that you’d show up. Not to throw money at the problem. Not to fix anything. Just to ask if I was okay."

She blinked rapidly, fighting back the fresh sting in her eyes. "But you didn’t. And I got over it. So don’t come back now, acting like you suddenly care."

"Didn’t I give you money?" Eryx frowned.

"Are you even listening?" She let out a sharp, bitter laugh. "I said I don’t give a damn about your money!"

She turned around, tilting her head back to stare at the ceiling as if it could somehow ground her frustration. "And for your information... nope! I never used a single cent of your money!"

"But I gave—"

"Gave what? The card?" She let out a sharp scoff. "Oh, Gideon... my lovely father, he took it away. You wonder why the money on the card was always empty? That’s him, lavishly spending every cent you put in."

"I’m sorry, I didn’t know that."

Eryx reached for her cheek, his touch hesitant, but before he could wipe away her tears, Lunara shoved his hand away.

"Of course, you didn’t." Her voice trembled, not with sadness but with exhaustion. "Because you never bothered to check. Never asked. Never cared."

Her chest rose and fell rapidly, her emotions spilling out faster than she could contain them. "I didn’t need your damn money. I needed..." she swallowed hard, her voice breaking, "I needed someone. Just someone. But I learned the hard way that I was on my own."

The weight of her words settled between them like an unmovable wall.

"Then what do you want me to do?" Eryx’s eyebrows furrowed, he was jammed. This was the first time he encountered this kind of mess with the other gender and he definitely didn’t have the solution.

Lunara let out a sharp laugh, void of any real amusement. "What do I want you to do?" She shook her head, blinking away the fresh sting of tears. "I wanted you to care when it actually mattered. But you didn’t. And now? Now, I don’t even know what I want anymore."

Eryx exhaled through his nose, his fingers curling into a fist. "I know I messed up."

"Messed up?" she repeated, eyes flashing. "That’s an understatement."

He ran a hand through his hair, exasperated. "Then tell me how to fix it."

"You can’t," Lunara said simply. "That’s the problem, Eryx. Some things can’t be fixed."

His expression darkened, frustration flickering beneath the surface. "So what, then? You want me to disappear again? Pretend none of this ever happened?"

Lunara went silent.

For a moment, she looked like she was considering it. "Can you?"

And that, more than anything, sent a sharp pang through his chest. He had expected anger, maybe even more sharp words but not this. Not the quiet, broken way she asked it.

His jaw clenched. "Is that really what you want?"

Lunara looked away, wiping away the tears that kept on streaming down her cheeks. "Would it change anything if I said yes?"

Something inside him twisted. He wanted to argue, to tell her it wasn’t that simple but wasn’t it? He had been gone for two years. He had left her alone. And now, when he finally came back, all he was doing was reopening wounds she had already learned to live with.

He took a step forward. "Lunara—"

"Don’t," she whispered, stepping back. "Don’t say my name like that."

Silence stretched between them, heavy and suffocating.

Then, just as he was about to say something, she turned, ready to leave. "I need to be alone."

But Eryx stopped her, holding her back. "Stay. I will... I’ll leave."
