Chapter 52: Crawl

Lunara gasped, pointing an accusatory finger at Eryx. "You tricked me!"

Eryx leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, clearly amused. "Did I?"

Her face burned as she scrambled to her feet, still half-hidden beside the bed. "Yes, you did! Who does that? You walked away! You even told the maid I wasn’t here!"

"I didn’t lie." His smirk deepened. "You weren’t here. You were hiding."

Lunara grabbed the nearest pillow and hurled it at him. He caught it effortlessly, his laughter making her even more angry, "Go away!"

Eryx arched an eyebrow, tossing the pillow back onto the bed. "You want me to leave now? Weren’t you just sulking because I didn’t look for you?"

Lunara gasped, frowning. "I am not!"

He let out a low chuckle, stepping closer. "No? Then what were you doing, hiding like a three year old child?"

Flustered, she crossed her arms. "I was... resting."

Eryx nodded, pretending to believe her. "Ah, of course. Resting. Behind the bed. On the floor."

Lunara grabbed another pillow and huffed. "Go away! I’m just a three-year-old child who was sulking, right?"

Instead of leaving, Eryx sat on the edge of the bed, making himself comfortable. "Ah... did I make it worse?"

Her jaw dropped. "You—"

"I won’t go until my wife follows me to our room."

"Correction! Your room, not mine!" She stood up, ready to walk away, but before she could take a step, Eryx pulled her onto his lap.

"That’s breaking rule number one," he murmured, and in the blink of an eye, he left a quick peck on her lips.

Snapping out of her daze, she gaped at him. "What are you doing?!"

Eryx arched an eyebrow. "What? That’s the rule. You were breaking it." He shrugged, completely unapologetic.

"What rules?!" She wiggled, trying to step down from his laps.

He smirked. "Correction...the rules."

Her eyes narrowed. "Correction! What rules?!"

Before she could even process what she had just said, Eryx tilted her chin up and leaned in, stealing another kiss.

Her mind short-circuited. "Wha—"

Eryx pulled back just enough to grin at her stunned expression. "Told you. The moment you say ’correction’ again, I’ll kiss you."

Lunara gaped at him, her face heating up. "That doesn’t count! I was just—"

He chuckled, resting his forehead against hers. "Want to test it again?"

She clamped her mouth shut, glaring at him.

Eryx smirked in victory. "That’s what I thought."

Lunara froze but then her frown deepened. ’Wait...was that what he had said before?’

Her mind raced as she replayed the conversation. ’No, no, he never mentioned kissing!’

Snapping out of her daze, she smacked his chest. "You never said anything about kissing!"

Eryx let out a low chuckle, completely unbothered. "Didn’t I?"

She gaped at him. "No! You said I wouldn’t leave the room for a week!"

He tilted his head, pretending to think. "Hmm. That does sound familiar." Then, with a teasing smirk, he leaned in closer. "But I figured this was a much gentler punishment."

Lunara’s face burned. "Gentler?! You—" She stopped herself just in time, clamping a hand over her mouth before she could say correction again.

Eryx simply smiled. "Smart choice and I never knew my wife has such a good memory." He suddenly stood up with her in her arms.

"What are you doing?" She started panicking, "Put me down."

Eryx ignored her protests, effortlessly carrying her toward the door. "Taking my wife back to our room, of course," he said smoothly.

Lunara wriggled in his arms. "I already said it’s your room, not mine!"

"And yet," he mused, tightening his grip as she struggled, "you keep ending up there anyway."

She gasped, her cheeks flushing. "That’s because you keep dragging me there!"

Eryx chuckled. "Exactly. So why fight it?"

Lunara groaned, giving up, at least for now.

"And you," he said, stepping into the hallway, "are adorable when you pout."

"Then I will make sure I don’t pout in front of you," Her tone was obviously sarcastic.

Eryx smirked. "Go ahead and try. But I doubt you can resist."

Lunara huffed, crossing her arms even as he carried her effortlessly. "You sound way too confident for someone who just got caught red-handed."

He raised an eyebrow. "Caught doing what?"

"Being a brat," she accused, glaring at him.

Eryx let out a deep chuckle. "If that’s what you call taking care of my wife, then sure."

Lunara scowled. "Put me down. I can walk."

"I could," he mused, pretending to consider it. "But where’s the fun in that?"

She shot him a glare, wriggling in his hold, but he only tightened his grip, carrying her effortlessly toward their room.

"Struggle all you want, wife," he teased. "You’re not escaping."

Placing her down at the edge of the bed, Eryx barely had time to straighten up before Lunara shot him a sharp glare. "You still haven’t answered my question. Why now?"

Eryx let out a sigh. "Here we go again." He crouched in front of her, meeting her eyes. "What answer do you want to hear? Would you prefer it if I lied to you?"

Lunara clenched her fists. "I want the truth."

"The truth," he echoed, his jaw tightening. "Alright. The truth is... you wouldn’t believe me even if I told you."

Her heart pounded. "Try me."

Eryx exhaled sharply. "Fine. I admit it. I married you because of a deal I made with my mom."

He reached for her hand, but she instantly pulled away.

"No touching," she snapped. "You didn’t think about it for two years, but suddenly, you want to act like a devoted husband?" She rolled her eyes in annoyance.

Eryx clenched his jaw. "Lunara—"

"No," she cut him off, her voice rising. "You don’t get to act like this now. Since we got married because of a deal, I guess we can get a divorce now. You got what you wanted, so why bother trying to be the perfect husband now?"

Eryx’s expression darkened. "Is that what you think?"

Lunara crossed her arms. "Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because you didn’t care for two years, and now suddenly, you do? What am I supposed to think?"

He ran a hand through his hair, frustration clear in his stance. "I told you... it’s complicated."

She scoffed. "Right."

Eryx moved a step closer. "And you? You were fine acting like I didn’t exist either, weren’t you?"

Lunara’s expression shifted. "Yes! I was fine! Fine, fine! Completely fine without you for two fucking years! What was I supposed to do? Crawl to someone whose whereabouts I didn’t even know? Someone whose identity was a mystery to me?"
