My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 42: Connection
Chapter 42: Connection
Lunara hesitated for a moment before nodding. Once Regina left, she made her way to Naomi’s room, curious about what kind of phone Eryx had gotten her.
As soon as she entered, she spotted an unopened box on the bedside table. Picking it up, she read the label. It was the latest model, far more advanced than the one she previously had. Her lips parted slightly in surprise.
She carefully unboxed it, turning the phone on. As soon as the screen lit up, a message notification appeared.
[Use this one from now on.]
Lunara stared at the phone as if it had personally offended her. Messages kept coming in, each one making her more confused.
[Awake?]
[Have breakfast. I already asked the maid to fill your closet with clothes. Wear those first. If they don’t suit your taste, we’ll go find something you like.]
She threw the phone onto the bed like it was burning her hands. "What is this? Did he hit his head somewhere?" Her fingers pressed against her cheeks as she muttered, "Don’t tell me... he fell in love with me?"
The thought made her shudder.
Lunara shook her head, brushing off the ridiculous thought. "No way. He must have some hidden agenda. Maybe he’s trying to win my heart first before whatever scheme he has in mind."
Deciding not to dwell on it, she rushed to take a bath. The warm water helped clear her thoughts, and by the time she stepped out, she felt refreshed.
Wrapping a towel around herself, she walked to Naomi’s closet and pulled it open, expecting to find her clothes. But as she skimmed through the neatly arranged outfits, a frown formed on her face. None of these looked like hers.
Blinking, she muttered, "Wait... when he said ’your closet’... did he mean the one in his room?"
Lunara quickly grabbed her phone and called Naomi. The line barely rang twice before Naomi picked up.
"Hey, what’s up?" Naomi’s voice came through, a little rushed.
"I’m borrowing your clothes first," Lunara said as she pulled out a simple outfit.
"Take whatever you need! I’m sorry but I’m currently busy, will call you back later! " Naomi said before hanging up.
Lunara sighed in relief. She slipped into Naomi’s clothes, then hesitated before stepping out.
Curiosity got the best of her. She took a deep breath and headed toward Eryx’s room.
Carefully opened the closet in Eryx’s dressing room, her eyes widened in surprise. Her excitement couldn’t be hidden. It’s been a while since she bought new clothes and seeing all these pretty dresses suddenly made her heart swell.
She ran her fingers over the fabrics, unable to stop the small smile forming on her lips. Everything looked new, carefully arranged as if waiting just for her.
She pulled out a dress, holding it against herself in front of the mirror. It was exactly her style. Had he really picked all of these? The thought made her stomach flip.
For a moment, she considered trying it on. But then, doubt crept in. Would wearing these mean she was accepting whatever Eryx was planning?
Her fingers tightened around the fabric before she let out a breath and placed it back. "I’ll just wear Naomi’s clothes today," she mumbled, stepping away before she could change her mind.
=====
Lunara stepped inside the Auréa Cosmetics HQ once again. Following Regina’s steps, she felt kind of awkward because everyone was greeting them and ushering them towards a certain place.
Noticing her awkwardness, Regina took her hand and held it. "Let’s go."
Lunara glanced at Regina, a little surprised by the comforting gesture. She nodded and let herself be led through the sleek hallways of the building.
Soon, they arrived at a meeting room where a few executives were already seated.
As they stepped into the meeting room, Lunara followed quietly behind Regina. The executives stood to greet them, but Regina quickly took the lead.
"I won’t take much of your time," Regina said smoothly. "I just wanted to introduce our newest model for the campaign... Lunara. Please take good care of her."
Lunara gave a small, polite nod as the executives exchanged glances, some nodding in approval. Regina didn’t wait for any unnecessary discussion. After a few more words, she turned to Lunara with a warm smile.
"You can wait in the lounge for now," she said. "After this, I’ll take you to the studio for a trial shoot so you can get comfortable with the setup."
Lunara hesitated for a second but then nodded. "Alright."
With that, she was escorted to the waiting room while Regina stayed behind for the meeting.
After waiting for half an hour, Lunara grew restless. She shifted in her seat, glancing around the waiting room. There was nothing to do, and the silence was starting to get on her nerves.
Maybe there’s a pantry somewhere, she thought. A drink would help pass the time.
Slipping out of the waiting room, she wandered down the hallway, peeking into different rooms until she finally spotted what looked like a staff pantry. Just as she was about to step inside, she heard voices.
"I heard she was the one who caused the accident with Seraphine."
Lunara froze.
"Really? But isn’t Regina’s pick for the campaign?"
Lunara’s fingers tightened around the door handle as she heard the voices from inside the pantry.
"I know right! It’s kind of suspicious. Seraphine is one of the top models in the country, and then suddenly this newbie takes her spot?" one of them scoffed. "There’s no way she got it on talent alone."
"Obviously not," another voice chimed in. "She must have some kind of backup. Maybe Regina is favoring her for personal reasons, or maybe..." The woman lowered her voice mockingly. "She’s got connections higher up. You know how these things work."
Lunara felt a sting in her chest. They thought she didn’t deserve this? That she got the job because of some shady reason?
She swallowed hard, debating whether to step inside or walk away.
But before she could do anything, her phone suddenly rang and everyone in the room turned their heads to the sound.
Her heart leaped in panic. Without thinking, she turned and dashed away, her footsteps echoing in the hallway.
Reaching a quiet corner, Lunara swallowed the lump in her throat, gripping the phone tighter and answered the call. "H-Hello?" Her voice came out shaky, barely above a whisper.
There was a brief pause on the other end before Eryx’s voice came through, low and sharp. "What happened? Where are you?"
