Chapter 41: Asleep In The Same Room
Chapter 41: Asleep In The Same Room
Warmth. That was the first thing Lunara noticed. A cozy, comforting warmth that made her want to sink deeper into it.
The second thing? She couldn’t move.
Her brows furrowed as she tried to shift, only to realize something heavy was draped over her waist. That’s when her eyes fluttered open, and it hit her that she had fallen asleep in Eryx’s bedroom last night.
When did she even fall asleep? She remembered nearly getting a cramp from trying so hard to fake it, but after that... nothing.
She froze.
Eryx was right there, his face relaxed in sleep, his bare chest rising and falling steadily. And she? She was practically curled up against him, trapped in his hold like some kind of oversized pillow.
Lunara swallowed. ’Okay. No need to panic. Just... move.’
She tried, but his arm didn’t budge. If anything, he pulled her closer, his nose brushing against her hair as he exhaled a slow, deep breath.
Her heart nearly stopped, but she gathered her courage and slowly lifted her head.
Naomi’s words suddenly echoed in her mind, "He’s not that bad, right? I mean, just look at his face."
Lunara’s gaze landed on Eryx’s sleeping face, and for the first time, she really looked at him. His sharp jawline, the way his dark lashes rested against his skin, the slight furrow of his brows even in sleep. It was unfair how good he looked.
She swallowed. ’Okay, maybe Naomi had a point.’
Maybe she should blame her younger self for this. Or her past obsession with idols. Because, honestly, if a face like this had been on a poster back then, she probably would have stared at it for hours.
Lunara’s heart jumped to her throat when Eryx suddenly shifted, his breathing changing.
She barely had a second to react before his eyes fluttered open. Panic surged through her veins, and without thinking, she squeezed her eyes shut, forcing herself to stay completely still.
’Sleep! Pretend to sleep! You’re a rock. A very asleep rock!’
Eryx blinked a few times, adjusting to the morning light. His mind was still hazy with sleep, but then he felt the warmth against him. His arms, still loosely wrapped around Lunara, held her close, her face resting near his bare shoulder.
A slow, lazy smile tugged at his lips before he even realized it.
Carefully, he lifted a hand, brushing a few strands of hair away from her face. His fingers lingered for a second before he let out a quiet sigh. He had no idea why, but waking up like this felt... nice.
Not wanting to disturb her, he carefully loosened his hold and started to sit up, making sure she didn’t stir.
The moment Lunara heard the bathroom door click shut, she finally let out the breath she hadn’t even realized she was holding.
Her chest rose and fell as she sucked in much-needed air, her heart still racing.
Slowly, she opened her eyes, staring up at the ceiling in disbelief. She had been this close to getting caught! If she had moved even a second later, he would have known she was awake.
She pressed a hand against her burning face. "What was that?"
The memory of his fingers brushing her hair played in her mind, making her bury her face into the pillow.
"No, no, no, Lunara, he must have something he wants. Don’t fall for that kind of trick. Don’t be too easy," she talked to herself.
Shaking her head, she forced herself to sit up. "Let’s escape first."
Her eyes darted to the bathroom door. The sound of running water meant she still had time. Carefully, she lifted the blanket and swung her legs off the bed, trying not to make a sound.
But just as she was about to stand, the bathroom door suddenly opened. Panic surged through her, and without thinking, she threw herself back onto the bed, squeezing her eyes shut.
Eryx stepped out, his brows slightly furrowed. He was sure he had heard someone talking? His eyes scanned the room, landing on Lunara’s supposedly sleeping figure.
Silence.
He stared for a moment longer, then shook his head. Maybe he was just tired. With a sigh, he ran a hand through his damp hair and turned back toward the bathroom.
Lunara, still frozen in place, fought the urge to sigh in relief until she heard the door click shut again.
When she woke up, the room was silent.
She blinked, confused for a moment, then quickly sat up. Looking around, she realized Eryx was gone. Checking the time, she saw that she had slept longer than planned.
Slowly, she slid out of bed and tiptoed toward the door. She cracked it open and peeked outside. There was no sign of him. Letting out a breath of relief, she rushed out only to come face-to-face with Regina in the hallway.
Regina raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. "Just woke up?"
Lunara stiffened and forced a casual smile. "Uh... yeah."
Regina chuckled. "Eryx already left for work." She tilted her head. "Come have breakfast. We’re going to Auréa Cosmetics in two hours to finalize the contract."
"Sorry?" Her eyes widened. "But Madam, I didn’t give my confirmation yet."
Regina smiled knowingly. "You don’t want to do it? Or did Eryx not allow you?"
Lunara quickly waved her hands. "He doesn’t have the right to..." She hesitated, pouting slightly. "I... I want to accept it, but I really think I lack experience and might drag everyone down."
Regina chuckled. "Everyone starts somewhere. Besides, I wouldn’t choose you if I didn’t think you could handle it."
Lunara pressed her lips together, unsure. Before she could say anything else, Regina gently patted her back. "Come on, eat first. We’ll talk on the way."
"Ah," Lunara raised her hand unconsciously, like a student wanting to ask a question. "Can I take a bath first?"
Regina chuckled. "Of course you can." She shook her head lightly. "Oh, and Naomi left early today. She said she had something important to do and asked me to tell you that Eryx got you a new phone." She gave Lunara a warm smile. "Go ahead. I’ll head down first."
