My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 139: The Place You Don’t Belong

Chapter 139: The Place You Don’t Belong

After the appointment, Lunara helped Naomi into her coat while Regina spoke to the doctor. Naomi’s stomach growled audibly, and Lunara raised a brow.

"Hungry?" she teased.

Naomi gave her a sheepish look. "I want biryani."

Lunara blinked. "Now?"

Naomi nodded with a grin. "I suddenly remembered the biryani Eryx brought home before. I don’t know where he bought it but it was so good. Can you call him and ask?"

Lunara raised an eyebrow. "He brought biryani?"

Naomi smiled, a little sheepish. "Yeah, like a year ago, when I came back for a short time. I started to try Indian food starting from that day."

Lunara chuckled and pulled out her phone. "Alright, I’ll ask. Since we’re done with the check-up, we might as well head out for lunch."

She tapped Eryx’s name and held the phone to her ear.

He picked up on the second ring. "Yeah?"

"Hey," Lunara said, glancing at Naomi with a grin. "Naomi’s craving that chicken biryani you brought back about a year ago. Any idea where you got it?"

There was a short pause, then a soft laugh. "Oh, that one. It’s from a small Indian place near the river. I’ll text you the name."

"Perfect," Lunara said. "We’re heading there now. Are you coming?"

There was a rustle on the other end of the line before Eryx answered, "Would love to. I’m done with my work and heading there now."

Lunara smiled, lowering the phone. "He’s coming," she told Naomi.

Naomi raised her brows playfully. "Now I feel special."

"You should," Lunara teased, slipping her phone back into her bag. "Let’s go before your baby changes their mind."

They left the hospital lobby with light steps, completely unaware of the man trailing them from a distance, phone pressed discreetly to his ear.

"They’re headed to the restaurant," the man muttered into his phone. "Yes. Just all of them for now. Eryx is on his way."

There was a short pause.

"I’ll report the situation there to you, ma’am. Are you coming?" he asked.

On the other end, Valerie’s voice was calm, almost playful. "Of course I am. I need to make sure the plan goes well... myself."

The man hesitated. "Understood. Should I—"

"No need for questions," she cut in smoothly. "Just keep your eyes on them until I arrive. And don’t interfere unless I say so."

The call ended.

Valerie set her phone down and glanced at her reflection, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. Her expression held no warmth, only calculation.

"Some things," she murmured to herself, applying a fresh coat of lipstick, "are far too important to leave to amateurs."

Valerie rushed down the grand staircase, her heels clicking sharply against the polished floor. Her coat was slung over her arm, bag in hand, but just as she reached the last step, a firm voice cut through the air.

"Where are you going?"

She froze, blinking up at the tall figure standing near the base of the stairs.

Harlan Sterling’s glare was like ice. His arms were crossed, and his jaw clenched tight. "You said he would come to you," he growled. "That he was just confused. And what happened now?" His voice rose. "He even took down his own grandmother!"

Valerie gritted her teeth. "I didn’t know he’d go that far."

"And yet here you are," Harlan snapped, stepping closer. "All dressed up, happily going out like you’ve already won. You haven’t. Not even close."

"I know what I’m doing," she said, voice sharp but quiet.

"No," he barked, eyes narrowing. "You’re letting desperation lead you around like a dog. You think Eryx is going to run back to you while you’re scheming in the shadows? He’ll destroy you next if he finds out."

Valerie’s fingers curled around her bag. "He won’t find out."

"Then you’d better pray you’re right," Harlan said coldly. "Because if your little plan blows up, I won’t be the one picking up your mess."

He turned and walked off without another word, leaving Valerie standing at the bottom of the stairs, her face flushed with anger and irritation.

"I’ll show you," she muttered through clenched teeth. "And the moment he comes back to me, I’ll make sure you’re the one crawling, begging me for help."

With that, she stormed out of the mansion.

Half an hour later, Valerie stepped into the restaurant, her dark sunglasses shielding her sharp gaze as she scanned the cozy space. The scent of spices clung to the air, but she paid no attention to the food. Her focus was singular—finding them.

Valerie’s lips twitched into a faint smirk. ’There you are.’

She saw them in a corner booth near the windows. Lunara laughed at something Naomi said, and Naomi, radiant and glowing, leaned forward with a smile. A happy family.

Disgust bubbled quietly in Valerie’s chest. ’How easily she blended in,’ she thought, narrowing her eyes at Lunara. ’As if she belonged there. As if she hadn’t stolen everything that was supposed to be mine.’

She turned quickly and chose a seat with a partial view of their table, removing her sunglasses with deliberate calm. Her fingers brushed over her phone on the table. One signal, and the plan would be set in motion.

She tapped a message:

"In place. Get him out. I don’t care how... just make sure Eryx is not there when it happens."

Then she lifted the menu, pretending to read, but her gaze flicked over the top edge, watching every move at their table.

Then she lifted the menu, pretending to read, although her eyes never left the group by the window. Eryx, who was seated beside Lunara, placed a hand lightly on Lunara’s hand as she smiled up at him.

Valerie’s lips barely moved, but her jaw tensed. ’You’re not supposed to be there,’ she thought. ’But don’t worry. You’ll leave soon enough.’

A buzz from her phone signaled a reply. She didn’t open it right away. She simply smiled to herself and set the menu down.
