Chapter 132: Pregnant

Naomi stepped out of the hospital doors, her fingers clutching the crumpled report like a lifeline. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, but her face remained unreadable. But deep down inside, she was afraid.

She was pregnant.

She already knew it, she could guess it, but seeing it in black and white made it real. And terrifying.

"Naomi.... Wait!"

She halted, only for a second. That voice. She never wished to hear it again.

Ryan jogged up to her, slightly out of breath, his usual smug expression gone. "I—I needed to talk to you."

Naomi slowly turned to face him, her eyes cold and unreadable. "If you’re going to ask me for the same thing again, then we have nothing to talk about."

She stepped forward, trying to walk past him, but Ryan moved in her way, catching her arm, not roughly, but firm enough to make her stop.

"I said, we need to talk," he repeated, his grip tightening just slightly. "Please..." his tone softened as he tried to persuade her.

"Mr. Davis," she said evenly, her voice steady but sharp, "I completely understood what you said before. You don’t want this baby. Fine. That’s why I’m cutting off our relationship and not holding you responsible in any way."

Ryan’s lips parted, but no words came out. He looked at her, really looked at her pale face, the exhaustion in her eyes, the way she clutched her bag like a shield.

"I never said I didn’t care," he muttered finally.

"No, you just said I tricked you. Lied to you. That I wasn’t who you thought I was," Naomi replied bitterly. "You think I planned this? That I wanted to trap you?"

She took a sharp breath, the weight of the situation pressing down on her. Her knees wobble slightly, and she stumbled a step.

"Be careful. Are you sure you’re okay?" Ryan instinctively reached out, his hand going to her waist to steady her.

But Naomi quickly pushed his hand away. "I’m fine. And it’s none of your business anymore." She tried to pull away his grip on his hand, "Please Ryan, I didn’t ask you for anything. We are really done."

But Ryan stepped in front of her again, his voice rough. "Naomi, please. I didn’t mean to hurt you."

She stopped, but didn’t look at him.

"I never said you tricked me," he said, softer this time. "I was just... shocked. I didn’t know what to do. I panicked, okay?"

Naomi let out a shaky laugh, her back still to him. "Yeah, well, I didn’t exactly plan this either. But at least I faced it."

Ryan reached out, his hand hovering near her arm before finally resting there. "You don’t get it. This is my first time... like," he paused, his voice dropping, "getting someone pregnant."

She slowly turned to him, her eyes unreadable. "You think I’ve been through this before? It’s my first time too, Ryan. I was just in love. And stupid."

Before Ryan could say anything more, the sound of fast-approaching footsteps interrupted them.

"Naomi," he called, walking toward her with cold authority. "Get in the car."

Ryan instinctively stepped in front of her. "What are you doing?" he asked, brows furrowing. "Who are you?"

Eryx didn’t even look at him. "Not talking to you."

"No, you need to talk to me." Ryan is still standing in front of Naomi, shielding her from Eryx.

Eryx crossed his arms, furrowed his eyes in confusion. "Where did you find this man?" He tilted his head, directed the question to Naomi.

Naomi rolled her eyes in annoyance, walked past Ryan and walked towards Eryx, "Let’s go."

"You didn’t do anything stupid, right?" Eryx’s voice was low and calm, but there was a flicker of concern in his eyes as he opened the car door for her.

Naomi gave him a tired look and sighed, "Since you are already here, I guess your men already reported to you. So I guessed they already reported everything to you too. Do I still need to answer the question?"

"I just need to make sure," Eryx said, giving a sharp glare to Ryan who was looking pale.

Naomi looked like she had enough for a day and sighed again, "If you think me being young would lead me to do anything stupid, rest assured, I still have a heart." She glanced for a short while at Ryan, like sending those words to him.

Before she could get in, Ryan stepped forward again, grabbing her wrist. "Naomi, wait. You can’t just leave like this! We really need to talk."

Eryx’s eyes immediately sharpened. Without hesitation, he reached out and grabbed Ryan’s wrist, prying it off Naomi’s.

"Who the hell are you?" Ryan snapped, trying to pull his hand back but it wouldn’t budge.

Eryx held it firm. His voice was calm, but his glare was razor-sharp. "Are you sure you know who you’ve been dating? You’re not playing dumb now, are you? You seriously asking me who am I? You don’t even know me?"

Ryan’s eyes darted between them, confused and defensive. "What’s that supposed to mean? Do I need to know you?"

Eryx finally let go of his hand with a slight push. "Let me make it simple. If you ever lay a hand on her again, even by accident, I won’t care who you are. I’ll make sure you regret it."

Naomi looked between the two, visibly drained. "This isn’t helping."

Eryx turned to her, nodding once. "Get in."

Still stunned, Ryan stood frozen as Naomi stepped into the car without another word.

As Eryx moved to the other’s side, he glanced back at Ryan one last time. "Next time you decide to throw your seed around, make sure you’re man enough to own the consequences." He narrowed his eyes sharply before ending his words, "And don’t bother hiding. I’ll come looking."

Then he got in and they drove away, leaving Ryan alone, confused, and for the first time, a little afraid he’d really lost something he never meant to keep.
