Chapter 42: Brute attack.

Rashin walked at the back with Daki, while the kid, holding Satella’s hand, led the way.

They had been walking for a good minute in search of where the villagers could be.

Of course, there was no doubt at least most of the villagers would have died.

But according to the additional information Rashin got from the boy, the villagers led the boy to safety, while the others bought time before they went back.

Which meant there was a chance some of them were still alive or at least fighting to be.

Rashin did ask the kid why they didn’t think to inform anyone from the mansion before setting out on the monster hunt.

The kid replied, "Because Father didn’t want to disturb the Mistress while she had a guest."

The reply struck Rashin as weird. If it were any other village, they would most likely not want to think for themselves. They would want to depend on the village chief or anyone leading them.

It made things easier.

These people seemed to be different... they wanted to grow.

All the more reason why Rashin wanted to help the boy.

To him, anyone brave enough to fight for their own ideology or reasoning was someone worth protecting.

Suddenly, the boy stopped and pointed.

"There... that’s where Dad and the others fought the monster."

Rashin paused, paying attention to the details before him.

On the floor was blood splattered—it was dark but still visible to the eyes. The amount of blood that stained the rocky walls and ground was enough to bathe a child.

Satella covered her mouth, shock written all over her face.

"Right there, Dad and the others passed through there."

Rashin was pissed, his fists clenched. But he didn’t want to come to any conclusions. Not yet.

So, smiling back at the boy, he whispered, "Sure, let’s go find them."

Left to Daki, she would have flat-out told the boy everyone who passed through here was dead and that the only thing they could do was probably kill the monsters who did it.

But seeing as Rashin did not mention that, she chose to keep quiet and simply go along with whatever he did.

As they walked through the path, each of them could feel their feet sinking into the pool of blood.

Suddenly...

[Enemies spotted.]

The system announced.

Looking ahead of him, Rashin could see six figures settled at the side of the road.

They were definitely not humans. They had the heads of wolves while the rest of their bodies seemed to be a mix of human and wolf traits.

Rashin glared. "Just as I thought, wolf people," he said out loud.

[Name: Wolf Beast.

Rank: B-rank.]

The boy instinctively hid behind Satella, his entire body shaking in fear.

The moment one of the wolf beasts spotted the little kid, it immediately stood up from where it was lying down.

"Ohhhhh, look, it came back!" the wolf beast said with a grin. "Ohh, and with more food."

The rest of the wolf beasts began to stand up too, forming a triangle formation.

Which allowed what was behind them to be exposed.

Even Daki, who had always been composed, was shocked.

Behind the wolf beasts were the dead bodies of the villagers.

Their heads were scattered across the ground, with parts of them eaten. Yet, the wolf beasts still stuck the arms of the humans inside, as if they were baskets for keeping things.

But that wasn’t what shocked Rashin and the rest the most.

It was the three humans nailed to the ground, parts of their skin pulled off, their mouths open—unable to scream for help. All they could do was lay there and cry.

The boy’s father did not make it.

The kid dropped to his knees, tears streaming down his cheeks as he held onto Satella’s leg for comfort.

"Uhn? The hell are you crying for? You’re the coward that ran away and left your parents to die," another wolf beast spoke.

"Acts like these are why humans will never respect demons. Even when you’re not in your nation, you still act like an animal with no training," Rashin uttered in a low tone.

"What was that?" the wolf beast growled.

"When I was a kid, I heard about wolf beasts. Wolf-human creatures that enjoy torturing humans before eating them. You normally attack villages, isn’t that correct?"

"What the hell is he talking about?"

"You’re dead."

Daki sighed. "Why must inferior creatures always get under my master’s skin? Honestly."

The wolf beasts all growled at Rashin’s threat.

"I’m getting hungry too. Guess it won’t hurt to have Mr. Handsome here for dessert." The wolf beast brought out its sharp claws.

"Satella," Rashin called out.

With a single bow of her head, her body turned into flames, and then a blade appeared in Rashin’s grasp.

[Flame Sword.]

"Daki."

"Yes, I understand. I will protect the boy."

Rashin then began to take slow steps toward the wolf beasts, the flames on the blade flaring up.

One of the wolf beasts smiled. They were known to be among the warrior race, so it wasn’t surprising that they also enjoyed battle.

"No one interferes. I want to take this human by myself." He walked forward, clenching his fists.

The rest of the wolf beasts stepped back, gladly willing to watch from the sidelines.

Watching as Rashin steadily walked toward him, the wolf beast smiled. "Seeing as you are rather weak, I’ll try to kill you as slowly as I can, you know, so you enjoy every—"

His eyes widened in shock.

How... How was Rashin suddenly in front of him?

Just a moment ago, he was so far away.

I only blinked.

Clenching his fist, Rashin sent a powerful blow right through the wolf beast’s gut, flames bursting from the impact as his hand stuck out from the other side.

Blood dripped on the ground.

"One down."

Rashin tossed the wolf beast to the side, flames dancing around him as if only he could speak the language of the burning fire.

He intended on killing every single wolf beast that was involved in the massacre.
