Chapter 31: Harmed villagers

After a while, Daki managed to kill every single one of the wolves that were chasing them. Though a few of the wolves escaped, the long trail of dead wolves on the ground spoke the tale.

For killing the werewolves, Rashin gained a bit more points for his newly upgraded Wind Piercer and also gained a new skill, [Lurker], which allowed him to completely conceal his form for a limited amount of time.

With everything done and back to normal, Rashin continued the journey toward the village. Only this time, he was the one riding the horse.

Eri went back to sleep, and Daki stayed beside her master.

Finally, they arrived at their destination.

Staring at the small gate in front of her, Eri could not help but display an unimpressed expression.

"I’m starting to doubt if we are really in the right place," she grunted a bit.

Nailed to the gate was a warning sign that said, (Give your all to Lord Lecithin, or perish!)

Curious, Rashin stepped forward a bit.

"Lord Lecithin?" he asked.

"Oh, that’s right. You’re not from this time, so it’s no wonder you don’t know who that is."

Eri was now looking at him, her red mesmerizing eyes focused on her hero.

"Well, Lord Lecithin is the god of this kingdom. He is basically the god that looks over the people that worship him. He is also the one that grants people magic powers in this world. All magic energy is linked through his consciousness. The god of freedom."

"A god, huh..."

The only gods Rashin was familiar with were those of ancient mythology he was forced to read about as a kid.

"Were there no gods during your time?" Eri asked.

"I cannot remember. I still don’t have memories from my last life," Rashin replied with a bit of seriousness playing on his face.

Eri knew about his amnesia of the former world. In fact, she sometimes blamed herself for it. Probably it was due to her messing up the summoning ritual; maybe that was why he ended up like that.

She shook her head.

"No use walking in circles on that. When you remember, you’ll just have to simply let me know. For now, let’s explore this village and get out of this kingdom already."

She turned around, her eyes already set on the gate.

"Wait," Rashin began. "I don’t think walking into their village unexpectedly like this is a good idea."

"And why is that?"

"They placed a gate here for a reason. They probably don’t want outsiders invading their privacy."

Eri sighed. "You take things too seriously. It’s a forest. Relax, I’ve been to a few while I was still a priestess. The people here are definitely harmless."

With a smile, she walked through the gate.

Suddenly, from nowhere, a high-pitched whoosh cut through the air as an arrow flew forward.

Rashin was quick to act. He sped into the village, pulling Eri close to him while grabbing the arrow before it could damage her face.

Shocked, Eri could only take a moment to collect herself. She almost died. If Rashin hadn’t stepped in, there was no doubt a hole would have been drilled into her forehead.

An ambush.

Rashin frowned a bit, his eyes scanning the view in front of him.

While the streets of the village were empty, people could still be seen hiding on the rooftops, stalking the duo.

The arrow that was still in Rashin’s grasp had already begun to release a dangerous toxin that slowly paralyzed his hand.

If they planned on paralyzing her, it means they don’t want us dead. At least not yet.

"Daki, make sure you look after Eri," he said more to himself than out loud.

Daki, still standing outside the gate, slowly began to move closer.

Her calm demeanor remained, but the aura she let out was so intense that the villagers hiding on the rooftops could sense it. Their frightened faces spread amongst one another.

"I’ll handle this. Just stay calm, okay?" Rashin said as he gently positioned Eri behind him.

She didn’t complain. She took a few steps back, finding her place beside Daki.

Now standing at the front, Rashin looked up at the buildings.

"My name is Rashin Montero!" he began, both hands raised to the sky.

"Pardon my partner’s rudeness for simply barging into your village. We mean you no harm. We only came in search of help."

There was no answer. The villagers hiding on the rooftops were not convinced, not after the aura they had just sensed from Daki.

I guess it’s not going to be that easy.

Rashin looked to the left side, eyeing the building closest to him.

Taking a single step, he managed to get himself onto the roof, landing behind a villager who was hiding there.

"Hey there. Perhaps you didn’t hear me. My name is Rashin Montero."

"Ahhh!"

The villager screamed in fear, moving frantically as a means to get away from the strange man, only to end up falling from the roof.

Rashin acted quickly and caught him, leaving the man wiggling his feet in the air due to the fear of falling if Rashin were to let go.

"You should be careful where you step. A single fall from here would mean your death. Are you aware?" Rashin spoke.

Not that the man planned on listening, as he was simply screaming like a child.

"Shit! They have Gento! Quick, everyone, surround the intruder!"

More and more villagers began to show up, each one of them holding a weapon in their hands.

Though the weapons didn’t look to be in good shape.

"I already said I don’t mean you people any harm," Rashin said, pulling the man up and making him sit in front of him.

"Shut up, you liar!" one of the villagers yelled, gripping his rake tightly before launching himself forward.

Rashin sighed.

"You leave me no choice."

He took a simple step to the side, watching as the villager fell in front of him.

"What the...?"

The villager was shocked. Just a few seconds ago, this man was standing right there...

Bang!

Rashin smacked him on the head.
