Mr Bodyguard, Protect Your Heart!
Chapter 120: IN YOUR SERVICE, MADAM

Chapter 120: IN YOUR SERVICE, MADAM

"Dante, I know I might be a little greedy, but I need your assistance and perspective on something I have in mind," Dove said with a small smile, her expression betraying the fact that she genuinely needed his help.

Dante, noticing the slight hesitancy in her demeanor, leaned forward, resting his elbow on the table. He propped his face up with his knuckles and observed her with admiration. The way she seemed hesitant yet hopeful made his heart soften.

Chuckling softly, he shook his head slightly and said, "Dove, you don’t have to feel embarrassed about asking for my help. You do realize I’m at your service 24/7, right? All you need to do is give the order, madam."

The way he said it made Dove blink before she pursed her lips shyly. He... didn’t have to phrase it like that.

"So, is this about the Davises?" Dante asked as he gently took the file from in front of her.

Dove blinked her eyes, for a split second wondering how did he know? She didn’t even mention anything at all.

But then again, he had been listening to her and Grace’s conversation. And Dante was too smart to already catch it.

Dove nodded and began explaining. "To be very honest, this decision was rather abrupt. Just last night, I gave orders to teach Cara Davis and the Davis family a lesson. Since the decision was made suddenly and executed swiftly, there are liabilities on both sides.

"Over the years, Sterling Corporation has had multiple collaborations and partnerships with Davis Enterprises. Due to these professional ties, both families had even considered strengthening their relationship through a marital alliance. But last night, I made the decision to sever those ties completely."

Dante nodded in understanding as she continued.

"At this moment, Davis Enterprises benefits more from these ties than we do, so they will suffer greater losses. However, Sterling Corporation won’t be completely unscathed either. While financially, Davis Enterprises will take the bigger hit, Sterling Corporation will face some accountability as well. Since we were the ones who broke the ties abruptly, they are bound to hold us responsible."

Dante listened carefully, nodding as he processed everything. It apparently seemed that Dove had acted on impulse, putting both companies in an unfavorable situation. Financially, Davis Enterprises would bear the brunt of it, but socially and reputationally, Sterling Corporation was also at risk.

However, instead of blaming Dove—which would have been the obvious reaction—he simply ran his eyes over the list of actions Sterling Corporation had taken. Then, closing the file and pushing it slightly away, he folded his hands and smiled.

"And now, what else do you have in mind? Or shall I say—what do you have up your sleeves?"

Dove blinked in surprise, as he seem to catch up what was in her mind, before a smirk appeared on her lips. She rested her face on her palm, tilting her head slightly.

"What do you mean by that, Dante? Or rather, how can you be so sure?" she asked, a playful glint in her eyes.

Dante chuckled softly. "I don’t believe Dove Sterling would put Sterling Corporation in harm’s way just to satisfy a personal grudge without having a backup plan. You’re not that petty. And if you truly wanted revenge, I’m sure you wouldn’t be lacking in creative ideas to achieve it."

Dove’s smirk widened, and warmth spread across her cheeks. She had to bite her lower lip to keep her smile from growing too big.

Dante Lancaster wasn’t just anybody—he knew how to read people. He understood their motivations and their capabilities. Even before she had revealed anything, he had already guessed she had something planned.

She gave Dante credit for being perceptive, but beyond that, it felt comforting to know that someone trusted her abilities without needing full disclosure. That trust, in an unexpected way, warmed her heart.

Finally, Dove nodded and pulled out her tablet. As she smirked, Dante saw something in her expression—confidence, strength, and boldness. It was the look of someone who wasn’t afraid of anything or anyone.

That look only made Dante feel more drawn and attracted to her. If he were to say, he just fell more in love with her.

Tilting her head slightly to the side, she said, "Dante, we’re businesspeople. We need to have many tricks up our sleeves, don’t we? You never know what might come in handy and when."

With that, she passed the tablet to him. As Dante skimmed through the contents, his eyebrows lifted in surprise.

On the screen was a detailed account of the unethical practices Davis Enterprises had engaged in over the years.

Apparently, Davis Enterprises had a history of making deals and forming partnerships with small and new companies—startups that were eager to collaborate with a giant in the industry. These small companies, thrilled by the opportunity, would invest their resources and trust in Davis Enterprises.

However, once Davis Enterprises had reaped the benefits, they would sideline or discard these companies without keeping their end of the deal. They used their power and influence to oppress these startups, knowing full well that the smaller companies lacked the resources to fight back. Ultimately, these companies would be forced to accept their losses and move on.

Dove had been keeping track of these unethical dealings for a long time. She had even employed people to gather concrete evidence, ensuring she had everything documented.

She had never shared this information with anyone. After all, Dove wasn’t a social reformer seeking justice—she was a businesswoman.

She had kept this as a weapon in her secret , knowing that one day, it might come in handy. And that day had finally arrived.

With an almost amused smile, she explained, "So, when they try to hold us accountable, dragging our reputation through the media, we can counter with this.

"If this information is released, it will severely damage their public image. We can easily frame our decision as a principled move—Sterling Corporation doesn’t do business with fraudulent companies that exploit smaller businesses. If Davis Enterprises has taken advantage of numerous small businesses, what’s stopping them from doing the same to bigger companies like us of given chance?

"This narrative will justify our decision to sever ties. As for the financial losses, we can afford a little compensation—it’s a small price to pay to protect our company’s reputation."

As Dove finished, she looked at Dante and smirked.

"Of course, insiders and people within the industry will know that this decision was fueled by personal grievances. But that’s nothing new—most disputes in the business world stem from personal conflicts. The important thing is that our public image remains untarnished. And isn’t that what we want?"

By doing this, she would achieve two goals at once. First, she would send a warning to those in the industry—Dove Sterling wasn’t someone to be trifled with. Second, she would protect Sterling Corporation’s reputation while simultaneously dealing a heavy blow to Davis Enterprises.

She would just get her promised revenge from Cara Davis, as a matter of fact.

Dante continued staring at Dove, his expression unreadable.

Dove blinked. "What do you think, Dante? Is this plan good enough to be put into action?" She looked at him hopefully.

She had never really sought business advice from anyone except her grandfather. Even when consulting executives or higher-ups, it was usually for projects that required their involvement.

But this? This was different.

She was consulting someone completely unrelated to Sterling Corporation about a critical business decision.

Of course, she couldn’t go to her grandfather with this issue. If she did, she would have to tell him the whole truth, which would inevitably lead to a conversation about why she wanted to punish Cara Davis in the first place.

And that discussion would bring up the topic of Gavi’s father.

Her grandfather had been waiting for her to talk about it for years, but was she ready?

No. No, she wasn’t.

Addressing it would mean confronting the entire truth, and she wasn’t prepared for that.

But Dante—he was different. He already knew the truth. He was the only one she could rely on for an honest opinion without unnecessary judgment.

But then, this was not the first time at all. After all, Dante had already helped her regarding an issue already.

And as much as it might have risk to involve any outsider in the companies business, Dove from deep within her heart did not get that feeling of it with Dante.

She somewhere already seem to develop a trust that Dante wasn’t going to or wouldn’t ever do anything harmful as that a matter of fact.
