Chapter 119: FOUND A PLACE IN THEIR SPACES
Chapter 119: FOUND A PLACE IN THEIR SPACES
Yes, Grace. I need you to handle that tomorrow," Dove instructed, her tone firm yet composed. "It’s alright if there are some setbacks—I can take those. The industry needs to understand that Sterling Corporation is not to be messed with, nor is its CEO. I want all ties with Davis Enterprises severed immediately. Also, withdraw everything related to the upcoming project that was supposed to be a collaboration between our companies."
After giving Grace the necessary instructions, Dove ended the call and exhaled softly. She stepped onto the balcony, letting the cool night breeze caress her skin and play with her hair.
There was something inexplicably soothing about the wind—it had a way of comforting the soul, of whispering silent reassurances.
As she gazed into the tranquil darkness, a smirk played on her lips.
"Aunty Cara, I told you that you would regret this to the brink," she murmured. "Dove never lets anyone who has wronged her go without teaching them a lesson."
Forgiveness, she believed, only held value if both parties desired it and were willing to move on. But if someone deliberately clung to their grudges and sought to pull her down, then there was no reason for her not to be just as ruthless.
With that thought lingering in her mind, she turned, glancing at the elegant wall clock before stepping back inside. It was almost Gavi’s bedtime.
As she made her way to his room, she found it empty. Then, she recalled the request her little boy had made earlier—he had asked to visit his grandmother.
"He must still be in Grandma’s room," she murmured with a small smile before heading toward Freya’s quarters.
Upon reaching the room, she noticed the door was slightly ajar. Peeking inside, her eyes landed on her son, seated on the couch, swinging his small legs that didn’t quite reach the floor. Across from him, Freya sat, listening intently as Gavi animatedly spoke, his tiny hands moving expressively.
The little boy was eagerly recounting the events of his first day at school—how much fun he had, his favorite lunch, and every random thought that crossed his mind.
Freya, for her part, listened with rapt attention, responding to him as though every word he uttered was of utmost importance.
Dove stood at the doorway for a while, watching them with a soft expression. The sight of her son bonding with his grandmother warmed her heart in a way she hadn’t expected.
After a moment, she gently knocked on the door, drawing their attention.
"Momma!" Gavi called out cheerfully. He jumped down from the couch and ran toward her. Freya, too, rose and followed him to the door.
Gavi looked up at his mother, his bright eyes twinkling. "Grandma and I were talking!"
"I saw," Dove replied with a nod, running her fingers through his soft curls. The little boy grinned at the affectionate gesture. "But it’s bedtime now, isn’t it?"
She then looked up at Freya and offered a polite nod. "You have a good night’s sleep, too, Aunty Freya."
Freya met Dove’s gaze, a flicker of surprise passing through her eyes before she nodded in return. "Good night to you too, Dove."
With a small smile, Dove took Gavi’s hand and led him back to his room.
Freya stood at the doorway, watching them leave. A feeling she hadn’t experienced in years settled in her heart—a sense of belonging. For the first time in a long while, she felt like she truly had a place here.
Later That Night
Dove sat beside her son’s bed, watching his peaceful face as he slept. His tiny chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, his features serene. A tender smile graced her lips as she leaned down to press a gentle kiss to his forehead.
She lingered for a moment longer, simply admiring him, before carefully tucking him in and rising to her feet.
As she stepped out of the room, she was surprised to find Dante standing just outside.
"Mr. L—Ahem! I mean, Dante," she corrected herself, blinking in surprise. "Did you need something?"
Dante smiled, then glanced into the room where Gavi lay sleeping before shaking his head.
"No, I didn’t need anything," he admitted. "I just came to check on Gavi. I just... felt like it."
"Oh." Dove blinked, momentarily caught off guard by his words. A warmth spread through her chest, and she found herself smiling. She turned slightly, glancing at her son.
"He just fell asleep," she said softly.
Dante nodded. Then, turning back to her, he said, "Now, you should get some good sleep too, Dove."
She looked at him, her smile widening slightly. "And you as well, Dante."
For a moment, they simply held each other’s gaze before finally parting ways.
Dante, however, stopped mid-step and turned back, his eyes lingering on Dove as she reached her room.
Very soon, Dove, you’ll be mine.
He would win her heart—and his son’s—before bringing them both into his life where they truly belonged.
What he didn’t notice was that just before stepping into her room, Dove had glanced over her shoulder at him, a small, a smile playing on her lips.
The Next Day
Dove and Dante left for the office after dropping Gavi off at school.
Outside the school gates, Dante discreetly spotted his security team stationed nearby, assigned to his son’s safety. He gave them a subtle nod before driving away toward Sterling Corporation.
The first half of the day passed as usual, with Dove immersed in work while Dante handled the documents sent by Calix. They didn’t speak much, both preoccupied with their tasks, but occasionally, their gazes would meet—silent confirmations that the other was doing alright.
It was almost noon when a knock echoed at the office door. Seeing that it was Grace, Dove said, "Come in."
Grace entered, holding a few files. "Ma’am, I’ve completed your instructions. We have officially withdrawn and severed all professional ties with Davis Enterprises."
Dove nodded.
"But, ma’am," Grace continued hesitantly, "according to our financial projections, our company could also face substantial losses unless we find a way to counteract them—which, given the circumstances, won’t be easy."
Dove remained unfazed, her sharp gaze assessing the situation. Then, she turned her attention to Dante, who had been quietly listening from his desk. He met her eyes, his expression unreadable.
Returning her focus to Grace, Dove nodded. "Thank you. That was all you needed to do. I’ll handle the rest from here."
Grace hesitated for a brief second before nodding. She had no idea what Dove was planning, but the certainty in her tone was reassuring. Over the years of working under her, Grace had developed complete trust in her decisions—Dove always had a plan, and it was always in the best interest of the company.
As Grace turned to leave, her eyes briefly landed on Dante. She nodded at him politely, and he returned the gesture.
One thing she had noticed about Dante was the way Dove treated him. Yes, he was her personal bodyguard, but there was something more.
If she were to describe it correctly, she’d say that Dove allowed him into her and Gavi’s personal space—something she rarely did with anyone.
Dove was fiercely protective of her personal boundaries. She didn’t let just anyone in.
Yet, somehow, Dante had found a place there.
And it was true. Maybe if one were to ask Dove herself about it, she herself would maybe no able to explain its cause.
Perhaps it was the sense of security he provided? His unwavering presence? His close relationship with her grandfather, who had trusted him implicitly?
Maybe it was a little bit of everything.
And even if Dove herself hadn’t fully acknowledged it yet, if some one were to look at them closely they could see something undeniable brew between them.
After Grace left, Dove stood up from her chair, and went to were Dante was sitting. On seeing this, Dante raised his eyebrow a little , as she sat in front of him.
Dove at first did not say anything, and just sat there quitely with her lips pursed, while secretly biting her lower lip. Looking at her sit like that so adorably, Dante couldn’t help but chuckle a little and tilted his head to the side, "Dove, do you need something?"
And Dove looking at him, her eyes blinking innocently and he nodded her head like a kid who wanted a candy, but she wouldn’t tell you.
Dante had not really seen Dove act so adorably much before. And it delighted his heart to no ends to think that she was slowly opening herself to him and showing a side to him that probably no one really knows.
And with a very happy heart, he asked, "And what can I do for you, Madame?"
Dove blinked, before a soft smile appeared on her face and she kept the files thatvshe had brought along with her in front of him, and said, "Dante..." And the way she called his name, made his heart skip a few beats, "I know I am being a little too greedy, but I need your assistance and point of view on something that I have in mind."
