Chapter 99: His number one priority
Chapter 99: His number one priority
Meanwhile, Alex and Sara returned home. Altho8gh Sara had many questions she wanted to ask him, she didn’t, deciding to wait until they were home.
She didn’t k ow when this place became ger home, but she had grown used to it so quickly that it didn’t feel like she had been here for only a few days. Perhaps it was because of the man beside her who had made her this conformable. The knowledge of a shared past with him must have contributed to that, but as the days passed by, she felt more at home.
"I will let you rest. Once dinner is ready, I will let you know," Alex said as he escorted to their bedroom, his hand let go if tye small.if her back as he stopped to close while continued walking a little.more distance before she stopped, turned and looked at.
"I am well rested, Alex. You don’t have to worry about," she said, but her lips as she contemplated whether to ask her questions now or later. She wanted to answer so many questions. Like what caused the accident? Was it really the brakes, or was there an external force at play? And what did he mean by ’take her back’?
These and many more, but she didn’t know how to begin.
Her train of thoughts was directed when she felt a pair of lips on her forehead and his hand at her sides. "Don’t so much whenever you wish to talk to me," she heard him say before taking a step back to give her some space. "What are you thinking so much about? Ask me," he said.
He seemed to be in a hurry somewhere before, but now, he looked at her indulgently, patiently waiting on her. Warmth spread across her face and heart, knowing he didn’t mind putting aside his business and creating time for her. He was unlike any of her ex’s. She had always been the one creating time for them, yet they never appreciated it. Sometimes, they called her clingy and got angry, and that had made her, in a way, very cautious.
But it wasn’t the same with him. He was patient, listened, and created time for her. This may all be temporary. Something that will only last so long and the phase will be gone, but she still couldn’t help the warmth it gave her.
"I thought you had something urgent to do so I..." she trailed off when he shook his head and held her hand. He entertained their fingers and closed the distance between them.
"Everything else can wait. I can always take care of it once I know you are settled. You are my number one priority," he stared into the eyes as he spoke.
A light blush crept up her face as she averted her eyes from his own. "You say that like you mean it," she said but still helped the blush that only spread wider.
"Of course I mean it. How else am I supposed to woo my woman? Huh? I can’t lie to her now, can I?" He smiled when she still refused to meet his gaze.
"So all this is to woo me?" She asked, trying hard to make a serious expression but still couldn’t stop the smile. They refused to leave her face. Alex nodded with a smirk playing on his lips. "So, you are saying you will.lie to me after this phase, is that it?"
As soon as she asked that, his expression became serious, and he pulled her closer, wrapping his other hand around her waist. Seeing the smile leave so quickly and how quickly she was pressed against him made her breath hitch. Their faces were so close she couldn’t move without touching his, be it intentional or by mistake.
"Alex..." she raised her head to look at him, but the words caught in her throat when she came in contact with the intensity of his gaze. Sara had only wanted to tease him a little, but his reaction to that took her off guard. Did she say something wrong or...
"There has never been a time where I lied to you, and there will never be. But..." he said, leaning back a little so he could see the entirety of her face. "...if I ever do, I want you to understand that it is to protect you, and when the time is right, I will tell you the truth."
After hearing his words and seeing the sincerity in his eyes and hearing his voice too, there was only the question in Sara’s mind, WHY? Why was he willing to do so much for her? Was it because of their past together that she could no longer remember? But then again, why?
"I will never lie to you, Love. If there is anything you feel I am not telling you, then ask me. If you can ask me directly, Kai should be able to provide answers, but I’ll prefer that you ask me," he added, and she swallowed.
There were just too many strong emotions right, and she... she didn’t know how to process them all. The fact that he didn’t even mind her going behind his back and asking his friend was—unexpected.
"Okay?" He asked, and she nodded without even realizing it. "Good, now, what were you going to ask me?"
Sara blinked as she realized how the conversation had returned to where it began. "Right," she said as she tucked a few strands behind her ear. "But if you’ve got something to do, you can go. I assure you that this too can wait."
Alex smiled, placed his hand on her head, ruffling her hair a little, and she pouted. "Everything else can wait as well. I can’t leave my wife hanging and waiting."
His what?
Sara wanted to ask him that but couldn’t bring herself to say it out. So she just nodded. And turned around walking towards the bed and sat down. She tapped the spot beside her, and he followed, obediently sitting beside her.
"So?" He gently urged her.
