Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 98: Fear, Hatred, And Denial
Chapter 98: Fear, Hatred, And Denial
Somewhere in Amberfell, Jocelyn and Malerie sat opposite each other, each with a glass of whisky, waiting for any news on a car accident. The longer they waited, the more it got to them. Their nerves feel uneasy as the weight of their action acts upon them.
Jocelyn would often check her phone for any messages from aspy she had planted within Legend Corp to keep watch over Sara and report any new development.
She picked up her glass and emptied it into her mouth in one big gulp. It stung terribly, especially since this was like the fourth glass she had emptied. She continued ordering glass for more, hoping it would help not think about the life they were harming. She looked at Malerie, although she was trying to play it cool. It was obvious she was also struggling, seeing as she had also emptied her fourth glass.
There was no guarantee that they wouldn’t be discovered but she was hoping that Sara’s influence on the President of Legend Corp wouldn’t be so that he would be willing to conduct a thorough investigation on her behalf. The cameras were taken care of, even the security office was being watched . But she couldn’t be sure. What if there was something they had missed.
These thoughts caused dread to cloud her mind.
"You look terrible," Malerie commented. Right now. She would prefer their back to back bi kering over the heavy silence that loomed over their heads like a dark miasma, constantly whispering the consequences of their actions and decisions.
"You say that like you’re any better," Jocelyn sneered. She looked around and then called the attention of a passing waiter. "another round, please," she said after the waiter stopped by their table.
The waiter looked at them skeptically, aware of how many glasses of whiskey they had each consumed.
"What? Why are you just standing there?" Maelrie grew irritated when he just stood there, staring at them with a sympathetic gaze.
"I am sorry, but I did not serve you earlier. What brand is it?" He asked. It was true that he didn’t serve them, but he was aware of the brand that they had drank since they came. What baffled him was that they hadn’t ordered any meals, just alcohol. So they were most likely drinking on emptied stomachs. He had also noticed that they rarely spoke to each other.
"I think it’s Johnny Walker. Don’t ask what label it is. I don’t know," Jocelyn replied, and the waiter nodded before taking his leave.
Just a moment after he left, there was a pop-up message on Jocelyne’s phone as the screen lit up. She quickly unlocked it and saw that it was from the spy tailing Sara.
As she unlocked the phone, the first thing that she saw was a wretched and bashed up car, which she quickly recognized as Sara’s. Then, the message that followed it.
"There is a problem, Miss Davis. President was with her."
Just reading that was enough to turn her face ashen. The color completely drained from her face, and her hands holding the phone trembled.
Malerie noticed the drastic change and equally tensed up, knowing that something was wrong even if she didn’t know what it was just yet.
"Did the b*tch survive?" She asked even if she knew it was more than that. Jocelyne’s expression wouldn’t be so grim if it was because Sara had survived and the sharp glare from Jocelyne proved her right.
"President Legend was in the car," She said as she showed the picture of the battered car to Malerie who’s already outstretched arm paused and shook and instinctively withdrew back to her side as if doing that wouldn’t make her an accomplice.
"What?!" Even her voice trembled. Everyone has heard of the president of Legend Corp. Of the things he could do. Although they could all be rumors, rumors don’t just start with a base, right? There was never smoke without fire.
Just then, the waiter returned to their table with the bottle of wine they ordered, but Malerie grabbed his hand. "Leave the bottle," they would need a lot more than just a few glasses right now.
The waited wastage aback, but he was smart enough to drop it upon session g the shift in the atmosphere around them. For reasons unknown to him, in their eyes, there was fear, panic, and as well as ...regret? He straightened up and left them alone. They were only there as customers and had nothing to do with him.
"What do we do now?" Malerie asked. She knew they were in deep waters right now, stranded even, but she just wanted to hope to find some straw to grab onto.
"Let’s hope he isn’t badly injured and he is merciful, unlike the rumors say," Jocelyne seemed to have resigned to her fate. She knew more than Malerie that he was noy a merciful person. The man literally fired over a little squabble between employees,

Adam arrived at his condo unit, his expression still as dark as it was when he left the hospital. The inside was dark, but he didn’t bother turning on the lights.
His eyes surveyed the dark apartment. This was the same place everything started. Where it all went wrong and fell apart. Making his way to the room, he forcefully yanked the door open and then abruptly stopped.
She was right here when he begged her to stay. Pleaded with her to not leave him but her mind seemed made up. He remembered hiw her eyes had raised up and stared fleeting at the bed before she smiled and turned her back on him.
Now looking at the bed, he remembered the reason for her smile, Malerie had been sprawled on the bed naked with his sperm dripping off her entrance from their intense love making.
He clenched his fist hard and his hand stung, aching badly from the still untreated injuries he sustained when he punched the wall at the hospital, forcing him to release and unclench his fist.
He suddenly felt hollow. The house suffocating as reality and his denial to everything clashed against each other.
"This can’t be happening," he said as he pulled his own hair. "I didn’t lose her to him. Not to him. I didn’t lose her."
He knew his grandfather held Sara dearly in his heart. Williams had been very pleased when he showed interest in Sara. He had decided to let him have everything once their marriage became official but...
"Damn it Alexander!" He cursed, fury and hatred burning in his eyes. Just the mention of his name alone ignited another firm hatred within him. "You won’t get away with this."
