Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 95: What Is Going On Here...?
Chapter 95: What Is Going On Here...?
The question was simple. Alex could feel the words right there at the tip of his tongue but felt they were insufficient. Not good enough. He thought of the right words that could express himself better, but no other words came to his mind.
Sara looked at him and felt her heart constrict the longer he took to reply. Was he unable to answer that question? Was it too sudden to ask? Her thoughts wandered, blaming and repremading herself for asking that, completely unaware of the reason for his silence.
He said he loved her but she hadn’t said that to him. She was even unsure if she loved him, yet. Though, she could not deny the growing attraction and affection. She had fallen for him, but she couldn’t bring herself to say she loved him. But he had expressed that without an ounce of care, or fear, completely trusting her and baring himself before her. She was too ungrateful and greedy to say that.
"I am sorry. I won’t ask that again..." she said but went silent when Alex shook his head.
"You have nothing to apologize for, love," even the name ’love’ no longer felt right and suitable. But he continued. "You have every right to ask that. It’s just that I couldn’t find the right words, not because I didn’t want to answer it." He raised her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles.
Sara’s cheeks turned pink at his gestures. Though simple, it was heart-warming.
"I love you more than..."
The door opened, drawing both of their attention to it, and there, they found Adam standing there, staring at them in utter confusion. Once he registered the words that Alex had just uttered and his eyes landed on their joined hands, his expression darkened, and anger soared.
*
A few minutes earlier, while they were engaged in their own thoughts and conversation, they had completely forgotten the person outside the door, causing a commotion.
Even the nurses have come to intervene so that they didn’t disturb other patients in the hospital, but Sadie was adamant about not letting him in while Adam was determined to see Sara at all cost. His mind wouldn’t rest until he saw her. Sadie’s defiance only increased his desire to see her as he suspected she was not alone.
He feared she had moved on, and that didn’t sit well with him. Why would she move so easily and quickly? It hasn’t even been a month since their separation she could be with someone else.
"Please, Miss, just let him or consult the patient first. This noise here is disturbing the other patients," a nurse said, feeling a headache just dealing with the two stubborn people.
"I am sorry, but I do not know him, and he has no relationship with the patient in the room. Why should I allow him in?" Sadie asked.
The nurses exchanged glances. Their words conflicted with each other, and they didn’t know which side to take.
"How many times do I have to tell you? Sara is my fiance. Am I not allowed to see my own fiance just because you failed to recognize your masters?" Adam roared, balling his fists.
"The young miss is indeed engaged, but not to you. So, please leave and stop causing a scene," Sadie said dismissively.
"There is no young miss here. It has been confirmed that I didn’t mistake the room or ward. The person in here is my fiance, Sara Ambrose, let me through,"Adam was so mad he was certain he would make sure she would lose her job once this was over. Or was she instructed to keep him out? But then, who hired her?
"You don’t even know who the woman you claim to be your fiance is and you think you deserve her," Sadie scoffed at him before going silent. Everything else that Adam did or said from then on fell into deaf ears.
He hated when she did this. It was as if he was mentally deranged talking to himself because she was not responding. She would only react whenever he approached the door. He refused to say anything again and decided he would go in no matter what. It wasn’t in him to hit a woman, but he could at most shove her aside and go in.
"He wouldn’t be lying about his fiance, right? He looked truly worried about her," the second nurse said. They pitied Adam for having to face someone as thick skin as Sadie, but they didn’t judge. They didn’t know the kind of relationship the man had with the woman inside.
Sadie’s expression remained unreadable as if she didn’t just hear them. While Adam took his steps towards the door, also ignoring their words.
Seeing him approach the door again, Sadie tense and moved to grab the handle before he could but he was ready and faster this time around. Hishand reached it before she could while using the free hand to shove her side and pushed the door, forcefully opening it.
"I love you more than..." these were the first words he heard even before he saw who had said them or registered the voice of the man.
At first he was confused but as everything became clear, his face contorted and anger surfaced. Why was Alexander in here with her? And what did he just say?

Adam was just about to take a step further when his arm was grabbed from outside, rough and firm, pulling on it and he grimaced.
"Forgive my incompetence, Young Miss," Sadie apologized from behind Adam. Her expression was hard when she turned to look at him. "I will take him away now."
"Sara..." Adam called, refusing to leave just like that.
"You can let go, Sadie," Sara said. Sadie gave her a wary look but she smiled in reassurance. "It’s fine. I am not alone," Sadie looked at Alex before she nodded.
"Yes, Young Miss," she let go of Adam after that and closed the door behind her.
Adam straightened his posture and, shaking the hand that Sadie had roughly grabbed so that the blood circulated properly. He then returned to staring at her with an unhidden accusation. His eyes trailed down to their hands again and Sara grew conscious of it.
She even tried to shake off Alex’s hand that now held hers when it was the other way around. But he didn’t let go. Rather, he intertwined their fingers. Sara’s heart raced when she realized he would release her hand. The tension in the room made her feel dizzy and very self conscious.
"What is going on here, Uncle Alex?" Adam asked through gritted teeth and clenched jaws.
