Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 94. Forget About Him
Chapter 94: 94. Forget About Him
If Adam could kill her just with his gaze, Sadie would have long died by now, but here she was, standing and returning his gaze with equal intensity.
She was determined not to allow anyone else in. Sara was asleep and needed peace and quiet. People going in there would only bring unnecessary disturbance.
"Please leave, Mr Crawford," she said.
Adam sighed, drew in a deep and unclened his fists. "Who is your young miss?" he asked. Maybe he could be mistaken, or the nurses gave him the wrong address. Sara was not any family’s young Miss.
"That is not to your concern, MrCrawford," she said, and he frowned again. What was wrong with this stubborn woman?
Inside, Sara frowned, hearing Adam’s voice, and Sadie calling his name also confirmed it. What was he doing here? She thought, her gaze alternating between the door as if she could already see Adam and at the sleeping Alex.
"Do you want to see him?" Alex suddenly asked, and she realized he was awake without her knowing it.
"I thought you were still..."
"Not with all that ruckus out there," Alex said. He also turned to look at the door and asked again, "Do you want to see him?"
"No," Sara said without any hesitation. It would be awkward meeting Adam, especially with Alex, by her side. She would one day meet the Crawford family once again as Alex’s woman, and she would have to deal with the awkwardness then, but today and now, she was not ready. She looked at the door again, wondering what he would think of her if he knew that she was together with Alex now.
"Are you worried about what he would think?" He could read her like an open book, although he asked. He was certain of her concern.
Sara looked at him. She couldn’t tell if he asked that question because he was offended or if he was just curious. But one thing was uncertain, she was thinking about it, but was she wooded about it? She didn’t know.
"Forget about him and what he’ll think of you. It does not matter," Alex said dismissively. "How do you feel now? Are you in pain anywhere?" He changed the conversation to something he considered more important and less infuriating.
Call him insecure, but he didn’t like the fact that Adam still occupied her thoughts even now. Sure, they were together, but that was then. She should forget about Adam the same way she had forgotten him and their relationship in the past like it never existed.
"I am fine, Alex," she said with a small smile. She grasped his hand when he continued staring at her as if he didn’t believe her. In his eyes. She could see it. Besides his concern for her health, there was hurt. "But you were right. I am indeed worried, Alex, but it is not for myself. I don’t care what he or anybody else thinks of me. I am worried about you, Alex. Adam is your nephew and..."
"You don’t have to worry about me, Love. Nothing anyone says will deter me or affect me the way you think. What matters to me is what you think. Just you," Alex said as he gently squeezed her hand.
Sara bit her lip as she fought back a grin that threatened to appear. Her heart fluttered, and her cheeks grew warm. His words and gentle touch make her feel things in a way that she has never felt before. Why didn’t he show up sooner? She wouldn’t have had to go through so many bad relationships had she met him sooner. Sara thought as she looked at him.
"What’s wrong?" Alex asked upon seeing the accusation in her gaze now. His heart nearly paused, thinking he had done something wrong.
"Why didn’t you come sooner, Alex?" She asked, but he didn’t understand her question immediately. "Had you come sooner than you did, maybe I wouldn’t have had so much trust issues. Do you know how many times I have been hurt by men until now?" She asked, pouting and staring accusingly at him.
"I am sorry," he apologized. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to come back, but he couldn’t. Noy when he saw just how happy she was with another man. As much as he wanted her for himself, he also didn’t want to take her smile away. But everyone had their limits. Her breakup with Adam just did the trick, and he came before anyone else could get close enough to steal her heart and mend it. He wanted to be the one. "You are right, I should have come sooner."
Sara frowned, realizing he took it seriously and was beating himself up for it. "Alex," he called, her hand reaching for his face as she cupped his cheek and made him look at her while also caressing it with her thumb. "When I said that, I was only joking. Messing around, you don’t have to beat yourself up for it. I am happy that you are here," she smiled warmly, matching his gaze.
Alex stared at her, studying her closely as she spoke. He wanted to know just what was going on in her head, and he could see it in her eyes. She may not remember their past together, but her feelings were still there, only surface bit by bit. He could see it in her eyes. There were so many raw emotions in them that he doubted she was even aware of it.
"...I am not leaving you again. Not this time," he said, bringing his forehead closer until it touched hers. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Have a family with you. But onky when you feel ready for it."
For a moment, Sara forgot to breathe. His words had her heart skipping and stopping. Yes. She had heard similar words before, but when he said that...
"Alex...?" She called, and he bummed in response. "You are not just saying this to make fall even more for you, are you?" She sounded childish, asking something like this when it should be obvious. But she did anyway. Men could be very good with words. They will say just what you want to hear, and when the time comes, they will break you beyond repair.
"I would never lie to you, Love. Every word I say is what I mean to say because that is what I want. I will marry you right now if you would allow it," Alec replied. He kissed her forehead and then stared into her eyes.
Sara felt butterflies hearing him say that. She leaned forward and kissed him briefly before pulling back. "Can I ask you a question, Alex?"
"Anything."
"Why do you love me so much?"
