The tension between the two grew thick. Kai could clearly see that Adam was not at all ready to back down, and he didn’t have time to deal with who was starting to regret his losses. Alex had him on a timer to deliver what he wanted, and that was what mattered to him.
"Young Master Crawford, there is something that I must attend to. Please excuse me," Kai said. He turned his back to Adam and was about to open the truck, but Adam placed his hand on it. Kai sighed inwardly as he realized his first mistake was leaving the car and entertaining him.
"Where was Sara taken?" Adam repeated, his gaze sharp and impatient.
"To the hospital," Kai answered, his patience slipping quickly the longer he stood there. He looked at the truck driver, pleading with his eyes for his understanding. The driver nodded his head, and Kai gave a small smile before looking at Adam again. "I don’t have to chit chat, Adam. I have something to do as you can see. Step aside."
Adam was taken aback hearing Kai call his first name. It didn’t matter, but this was the first time, and it shocked as well as conveyed the message that Kai wanted him to understand. He was also running out of patience and his anger rising, too.
"Give me the name of the hospital, I will find her myself," he demanded, and Kai smiled. The smile Adam off as he didn’t see a reason for that.
"Don’t you realize that Miss Ambrose does not want to see you, Adam? How long has it been since your break-up? You never appeared before her to make amends and even accused her of circulating your scandal," he paused, so ut would sink. He saw as Adam scowl deepened even more, and his smile broadened. "If you were her, would you want to see you?"
Adam couldn’t reply, and Kai took the opportunity to pull his hand off the door. He quickly got in, and the truck moved away. Adam stood in the same spot, staring at the battered car of Sara.
Why was he so insistent on seeing her? It didn’t matter to him whether she was okay or not, so why?
Jessa walked back to his car, his mind still clouded, but he managed to convince himself that he was only worried about her after all. They did spend three years together. It was only natural that he would worry about her when she was in danger.
He picked up his phone from the passenger seat, he input the password, and started scrolling through his contacts. Once he found the number he was looking for, his finger hovered over it as he contemplated on whether dialing it or not.
After sceral seconds. He decided to make the call. Once the call was connected and answered, Adam didn’t hesitate to give instructions.
"Help me find which hospital Sara is admitted," he said, his left hand holding the steering wheel as his fingers mindlessly drummed on it. His gaze stared ahead but focused on nothing in particular.
"Did something happen to her?" The person on the other end asked, obviously unaware of the accident.
"Jake, she would t be in the hospital if nothing happened. Find out which hospital and Teel immediately. I am waiting," he said and disconnected the call. He felt uneasy, something he had never felt before. Even the cell in his body wanted to find her. He could tell something was wrong. As if he was about to lose something that he couldn’t afford to lose.
Adam forced himself to wait, checking every pop-up notification on his phone, thinking and hoping it was from Jake. After several long and frustrating minutes, the message he was expecting appeared, and he did not waste a second longer as he drove speedily to the said hospital.
At the hospitals, Alex was back to Sara’s side, he gently her hand, stroking the back of her palm as he awaited when she would open her eyes. He has been told that she would wake soon.
After a long wait, she was yet to wake up. Being seated in the same spot with nothing to do, his eyes started feeling heavy and sleeping shortly, but he never let go of her hand.
It was long after he closed his eyes that Sara’s fluttered open. She took in the unfamiliar surroundings and furrowed her brows. Once the familiar smell of disinfectants drifted into her nostrils, she knew without a doubt where she was. Nothing could ever take away the hospital smell that she truly hates but could do nothing about.
Feeling the weight on her hand. Sue turned to her side and found Alex seated on the chair beside the be with his resting on just beside her and his eyes closed. Her eyes softened at the sight of him, but she frowned at the position he was in. Wouldn’t his neck hurt?
She was just about to wake him when the commotion outside the door caught her attention.
Outside, Adam stood in front of the door, glaring at Sadie, who refused to let him inside. What annoyed him the most was that she was denying the fact that Sara was inside.
"I am sorry, but you can’t go inside," she said again like those were the only words she knew how to say properly. She faces his glares with an indifference that irked Adam badly.
He balled his fists. Standing her right now, he felt even more restless. Something told him to go inside. To see what was happening inside. To know if there was someone inside with her or if she was alone.
"The person in there is my finance, dammit. Let me through. I don’t want to hury a woman," Adam uttered through gritted teeth.
Sadie looked at him, her curiosity piqued, but that only lasted for a second. "You think you can harm me?" She smiled. He didn’t look like he had what it takes to such a thing. "And by the way, the last I checked, the Young Miss was never engaged to a Crawford. You are not her fiance, little young master Crawford," she said.
