Chapter 90: 90. It’s Not Slowing Down
Jessa was at Jaxon’s home with Bernice to get the update on what they had been able to gather so far. The days were quickly going, and she didn’t want to wait any longer.
The longer they did nothing, the more harm could befall them.
"There’s more than party tailing your friend, Jess," I have been able to identify two of those, but the other, I am so sure," Jaxon admitted. He sighed as this was even more complicated than he had anticipated. "I assume that they will all be present at the banquet tomorrow night. They are not indigenous to Amberfell."
"Are you saying after the banquet, they will all be gone?" Jessa asked, trying to be hopeful, but she knew that was only wishful thinking.
"Do you believe that?" Bernice snickered. She leaned backward and placed her legs on the table without taking off her boots. "They probably used the banquet as an excuse to get into the city knowing it is someone else’s territory. Since they were invited, they won’t be stopped. But they won’t just leave right after it is over because their main objective is..." she stopped and raised a brow at Jessa waiting for her to complete it.
"Sara," Jessa uttered the name, and Bernice smiled with a nod.
"Exactly," she said.
"Who are the two people you have been able to identify?" Jessa asked Jaxon, who had been deep in thought. "Jax?"
"Sorry about that. What did you say?" Jessa glared at him while Bernice laughed lightly heartedly.
"It is a rare sight to see you so focused, Jax. What is it this time?"
"Jessa, what was the question?" He ignored Bernice as he directed his attention back to Jessa. Bernice rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue before pulling out her phone. They all had different roles to play, and this time, it was Jaxon with the leading role.
"Who were able to identify?" She repeated her question.
"First, that would be the man she is living with. He has his people all around her, and it is also because of them that the other parties are keeping their distance from her. The second group is those from the Goldmans. I can’t tell what faction they belong to, but they are certainly from them. Third, it is yet to be verified." Jaxon replied.
Jessa sighed but nodded in understanding.
"Your friend will also be at the banquet, right?" Jessa nodded. "They might approach her there. Keep your eyes peeled," he warned.
"Can’t we attend the banquet too? We can see for ourselves who they are," Bernice casually suggested. She spun the phone in her hand, and she raised a knowing brow at Jessa.
"You can come with me then," Jessa agreed. "But you’ll have to dress accordingly," she glanced at Jaxon, who raised his hands in surrender. "Good."
"So we are going to a fancy banquet," She pulled her legs off the table and clasped her hands with a bright smile. "Let’s hope we don’t get bored to death."

After work hours, Sara felt the day was longer than others. So many things happened and had all drained her. Especially the episode that played out earlier in the morning. The day was tiring, and she was glad that she could finally go home and rest.
She approached her car, unlocked the door, and got in, but before she could drive, Sadie appeared outside beside her.
’I knew I was forgetting something,’ she tho8ght as she wound down the window.
"I would like to drive you from now on, Miss. If that is okay with you," Sadie said, her eyes pleading with Sara to let her do it.
"You will join Ian. I will ride with her," Alex said as he opened the door to the passenger seat beside Sara and sat down. Sara looked at him and gave a grateful smile.
Sadie was reluctant to leave, still looking expectantly at Sara. Until she receives the order, she won’t leave. Noticing this, Sara sighed inwardly.
"Why don’t you ride with Ian today? Perhaps next time we can ride together," Sara said, and Sadie nodded her head.
"Understood," she said, and Alex clicked his tongue in irritation.
The woman was getting on his nerves, but she hadn’t done anything to warrant his anger.
"You don’t like her, do you?" Sara asked after Sadie was gone. She wanted to tease him.but she stopped herself.
"I don’t trust her, and I don’t think she is good enough," he replied, and she smiled. Raised her hand and smooth the folds between his brows.
"Frowning doesn’t suit you," she said. At her words and touch, his frown disappeared, and his shoulders relaxed. "Much better," she said with a nod and then started the car. "We don’t know her enough to label her as incapable. And besides, she has some time to prove herself."
"You want to keep her?" Alex asked.
"I don’t know," she shrugged.
The car started moving as they drove off towards the busy streets. They sped through the highway in a comfortable silence. But amidst the comfort, Sara started having a bad feeling. She couldn’t tell what it was, but she could feel it. Something was terribly wrong somewhere, and it was just waiting to rear its head.
"Slow down," Alex said as if he could read her thoughts, or perhaps he, too, could feel it. She glanced at him and found his brows knitted together again, and she knew she was right. He could sense it as well.
"Something is wrong," she said, and he nodded.
"I know," his eyes scanned everyone and everything around, but nothing seemed to be wrong or out of place. He studied the side mirrors, and Ian was driving right behind them. "Just be careful," he said.
Sara swallowed a lump in her throat, and her grip on the steering grew tight.
Nothing happened until they were cane to a traffic light where she needed to use the brakes, but no matter how hard she punched the brakes, it was responding, and the car continued speeding.
"Alex...?" She called in panic. "It’s not slowing down."
