Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 88. Many Unaswered Questions

Chapter 88: 88. Many Unaswered Questions

Sara bit her lip, feeling stupid for reacting so strongly when she completely misunderstood the situation. She misunderstood him, yet he was the one apologizing, and she, crying. She felt like a total idiot for that now that she got to know exactly what happened.

"I am sorry," she said. Her head rested on the nook of his shoulder while he caressed her arm, drawing mindless circles on it.

"I just want you to know that I am like those men who have hurt you. I will never do that to you," he said while she nodded her head, choosing to believe him.

They were still inside her cubicle. While she sat on her chair, Alex pulled the one opposite from her and sat beside her. The tension dissipated along with the huge misunderstanding that would have cost them their blooming relationship.

"I won’t do that again. I’ll try to trust you more from now on," she said, truly meaning what she said. If she wants to make something out of this relationship with him, she would have to overcome her past. Let go of the fears and pull down the walls she had raised and trust him. It would be hard. But she would give it a shot.

"You had every right to be angry," he said, and he looked up at him with furrowed brows. "I wouldn’t want to see you standing at such close proximity with another man, Sara. Just like you, I am possessive. Even more than you are, I dare say."

Sara couldn’t restrain the smile that tore through her lips at his words. They were cheeky, but they were just the right words that she wanted to hear. The way he said it, she knew he was serious, but she still laughed anyway. A possessive man but not overbearing, she could live with that.

"I’ll keep my distance from other men," she said. He shouldn’t be the only one keeping his distance from the opposite sex. She should, too.

"I know, and I trust that you will," she said, looking at her indulgently.

Meanwhile, Sadie walked around, not sure where she was headed, but she did find a group of employees. Although their jobs weren’t clear, she assumed they would know who she was looking for.

As she approached them, one of them turned to look at her. She was surprised to see a guest walking around alone with no escort. So she thought the woman may be lost.

"Hello, Ma. Are you lost?" She greeted her with a polite smile.

Sadie returned her smile and approached only her. "I do believe I am indeed lost," she said, but there was no shame at all as she spoke. At least she should feel shy or a bit embarrassed, but there was no such thing. "Do you have any idea where I would find... Miss Ambrose?" She had almost addressed her as Miss Goldman but was glad that she corrected herself before the name left her lips.

The person looked at her colleagues as they all exchanged glances with one another before she looked back at the mysterious lady. "I am sorry, but we are not allowed to give information about her to anyone. Maybe Secretary Wilson might be of help to you," the lady said.

Sadie could see it in her eyes that she was indeed not allowed to. She didn’t know whether to be impressed and proud or to get angry and irritated at the turn of events. "That would be nice. Could you give me directions, please?"

"Okay. I’ll take you to him," she said and left her corner.

’At least his employees are smart,’ Sadie thought, still annoyed with the fact that he looked down on her.

"Here, you’ll find him in there," the lady said, and Sadie smiled and thanked her.

Knocking lightly on the door, it opened from within, and Kai stood before her. His brows pulled together as soon as he saw her. "Hey,’ she said, and Kai’s frown deepened. "I am sorry to disturb your work, but I need help in finding Miss Goldman. Mr Legend has refused to let me meet and rather went after a lady who...."

"He went after a lady?" Kai asked as he immediately sensed something amiss. Sadie nodded and, with her brows, slightly pulled together. "How long have they been gone?"

Sadie didn’t understand why he was asking her that, but she still cooperated, giving him the answers that he needed.

"About fifteen minutes ago. Is there a problem?" She asked.

Kai sighed and asked her to come inside. It was the exact time Sara went into that office. "Please wait here while I go look for them," Sadie wanted to refuse, but he spoke before she could. "It would be better if I don’t have to go and look for you too. And the president wouldn’t be pleased that you are roaming around unsupervised."

"Fine," she said half-heartedly.

Kai didn’t waste any more time as he went hunting for the couple who seemed to be staring in a drama lately. When he couldn’t find them inside Alex’s office, he went straight for Sara’s.

Even before he could knock on it, he heard their voices inside and sighed. At least they didn’t leave the office building.

"Can you two try not to draw attention to yourselves if you don’t want your relationship to go public?" Kai walked in looking like he had aged a few years within a few minutes.

"Did something happen?" Sara asked.

"Miss Brown, she is looking for you two. Did you forget about her? " Kai said in a reprimanding tone.

"Do you wish to meet her?" Alex asked. He waited patiently as she pondered over it.

"Should I?" She returned the question. Sara didn’t feel any attachments to the Goldmans, and for some reason, she was not eager to meet her biological father. The man didn’t show any interest in her until now, and she found it so odd that he should.

"You should. She should be able to answer all of your questions," Alex replied. He kissed the back of her hand and before he added. "Mr Goldman is probably approaching his last hours. He wants to make it to you. He has also requested to meet with you if you are willing to grant his request."

"What?!" Sara exclaimed, taken aback by the knowledge that the man would be dying soon.

"Grandfather visited him recently, he has been on bed rest for years now, barely holding on. I don’t know now what happened but even my Grandfather was affected by it. It is very possible that he doesn’t have much time left to live and that is why his family wants to take over power because he would most likely never know about it."

Sara frowned, feeling a tug in her heart. How was it that when she got to learn about her father he was dying.

"Don’t stress over it. Whenever... if you want to meet him, I’ll take you to him. But there are other things we need to discuss before you meet with him," Alex said as he kissed her temple.

"Okay, I will think about it," she said before casting her eyes on Kai. "Where is she, Secretary Kai?"

"At my place," he replied and the two stood up and followed him.

Sara was distracted most of the walk to Sadie but she knew one thing for certain, she wanted to see him. If his only wish was to see her before he took his last breath, she couldn’t deny him of that. It won’t cost her a thing. She even pitied him, because of his illness, his wife and family now looked down on him. It was no wonder they were making moves now.

"Are you alright?" Alex, noticing her pace out, asked.

"I am fine, yes," she said and forced a smile. Although he knew that was a lie, he nodded his head. As much as he wanted to take her worries away, he couldn’t take all of them. He snaked his hand around her waist and brought her closer to his side.

"Don’t be too hard on yourself," he wouldn’t blame you if you don’t want to see him," he said and Sara just smiled.

Maybe she could learn of exactly what happened between him and her mother and why he did nothing when the woman he claims to love left his child. There are so many questions that needed answers and meeting him was the only to get those answers.
